RM is one of the most likeable, caring and kind people I have ever met! Most of us have that person(s) in our lives who try to "rain on the parade" whenever they can. Very sad....but a true story!

It's really a funny story...but in a nutshell, she had posted a status update about not getting the craze...I had posted a status update that I'd enjoyed being a "guest" courtesy of ABC....and she comments (in a nutshell) that I'm an idiot, marrige is crap, etc. When I replied, she got mad and said "I guess your opinion is the only one that matters!" As I was typing back to point out that since we were having the confesation on MY facebook page, she was correct, she delted me, & unfriended me. But I'm in good company. My dad got mad because she was trash talking me to her random-never-met-100-Monkeys-friends, and he told her to stop. So, she promptly unfriended and blocked everyone in the family.....except my dog Lucky. So, I can still stalk her. :lol:

 

Anyway.....she's a bit of a wackadoo. :lol:

I was unfriended AND blocked by my sister....we haven't spoken since April 2011. :lol:

 

My mom fell and broke her wrist last week. I found out from my cousin so I called my mom and she said that my sister had posted it on her Facebook so she assumed the other 3 daughters knew about it. I had to tell my mom that all 3 of us have that sister blocked because her posts are so annoying!

I am 21 years old, and I feel a lot of the time I was born in the wrong generation. I really hate social networking. I do. There is nothing more egotistical than thinking that someone cares what you're doing every second of every day, and that drives me crazy. There's nothing creepier than following someone at a distance without them being able to know it. I don't know. I just don't make Facebook statuses and hardly ever read other people's because I don't think people care what I'm doing (nor should they) and I certainly don't care if Romemary is "out with my girls getting D-R-U-N-K!" or "so0o0 stressed over finals!"

 

I keep it around as an archive of sorts of old connections, which inherently is the real purpose of Facebook to me, as well as to successfully execute group projects, etc. Besides that, it drives me crazy.

 

My rant is over now. :lol:

 

Good luck keeping your children off of Facebook, DF. All I would tell you is that at a certain point in their lives, they'll get one anyway, and hopefully they use it for good, logical reasons. I'm sure they will :thumb:

I don't have children, so my opinion may change someday, but once my future children reach their teens, I'll absolutely allow them to have a facebook account. I won't be the creepy overprotective parent that micromanages their facebook page either. All I'll require them to do is "friend" me, so I can monitor from a distance their content. If they abuse the trust and freedom I give them, it'll be taken away very quickly. I see no reason being a NAZI to them, all that does is enstill the belief that you don't trust them. Besides, there are many things about kids that is probably best their parents aren't aware of, and I'm okay with that.

I can understand what your saying, and I do believe there's an element of that for some. For me, because of the huge number of friends I've made over my lifetime, and the fact that many of them have moved to other states and countries, it's our way to connect and feel a part of each other's lives. Before Facebook, I always wondered what happened to so-and-so. But now, I've reconnected with friends from as far back as my grade school years. And the friendships are rekindled because of it. I don't get to see my son and daughter-in-law nearly enough, and I can keep up with them as well. My daughter-in-law's family lives in Los Angeles, and it's how she shares things with them. I'll have a grandbaby in October, and I hope they post tons of updates about him/her. I don't have any friends who post stuff I feel is egotistical. So, maybe I don't see it as big a deal as you. But, most of my friends are older....30's-80's. I've worked a lot of jobs and second jobs and been fortunate to make some really good friends at each that were the hardest part of leaving any of them.

I stick by my point that Facebook is a creep's dream, and that is what turns me off most about it.
