What benefit is there to hundreds of kids that get left out because there is ONE champion? Interesting to me that there is an all A tournament which I attended for the first time this year and thought it was great, why not 2A classic and so on. In my opinion because so many think this is the best tournament including KSHAA that the opportunity to help build many more young champions that eventually will become leaders would go a lot further than crowning one PURE champion. Kentucky has classifications in almost every other sport. We live in a politically correct society that has broaden so many channels to allow children to excel why not KSHAA basketball. just my 2 cents

We do not need multiple state champions. The All A is basically an invitational state wide tournament totally seperate from the KHSAA. Nobody is stopping anyone from being the "All 2A" Stan Steidel.

I am not saying that this one single experience makes a leader but if you have multiple divisions it sure would help, you do not think a kid that would get to play in that atmosphere could not take that experience and use it later in life possibly from a leadership perspective? if they do not get the chance then certainly they will NOT. Not sure of your playing experience but I did play in a state that crowned multiple champions and get this a lot of those people are leaders today! Not saying that is why but I know from a personal experience it helped

2. I will be honest, that I don't care about HS football in the slightest. And only did for the 3-4 years when I was in school and that's just because I had buddies playing.

I played three years of Varsity at Boone County and was on a team that last to Cov Cath in the regional finals, I believe Cov Cath made it to the semis that year. Good experience yes, but I feel like if you are going to do develop leadership quailities, you're going to do it throughout the seasons, whether you got to play a few extra games at state or not.

as you STATE good experience and think of it from a accomplishment persepctive, 5 or 6 different teams with say 7 to 8 players contributing on each the odd's are certainly increased to have postitive impact on a young persons life. I must agree with Willyp why for the purity of the "Holy" champion would the KSHAA or anyone else for that matter not want more young people getting to enjoy as you put a "good experience". Please understand I truly repsect your post and sory we differ on this one!

MJ I would agree we have different views on leaders, most interesting thing to me around this whole conversation is as I went to KSHAA web site today I could not help but notice the primary photo of a young golfer was headlined by saying "young athletes of today makes future leaders", that from a governing body that believes in crowning only one champion in BB Ball, I will stick with my belief more champions will make many more future leaders and allow a lot more young athletes enjoy the lifetime experience of winning a championship.

I like the All A Classic, and it gives small schools two bites at the apple, so to speak. Just a few years ago, we had Clinton County make it to the state championship game, and there are often three or four small schools that make it to the Sweet 16.

 

Lexington Christian won the title once or twice and Rose Hill made it to the finals one year ... I know, those are private schools.

 

Exactly. You get the best of both worlds.

Harlan won the All A in 94 and 95 and still had a chance to compete for the state championship at Rupp Arena in 93, 95 and 96 and made it to Saturday morning in 95.

I don't know how a Class A team would celebrate a state championship in March differently than Harlan's boys and Cumberland's girls did in Harlan County in January - trophies, celebrations at school, banners in the gym, road signs.
