I see 10 as the right number of scholarship players. If you get a couple loyal in state recruits like Perry and Noah who you expect to be on your roster for at least 2 or 3 years, you could go to 12. Add in 2-3 walk ons for practice purposes. For Cal though, who doesn't really care about having the in state players, 10 is probably the right number.

There were only 3 freshmen starting in the elite 8 with 2 of them on Duke. And I would argue Duke wouldn't have been in the elite 8 if Houston's Jamal Shead didn't get injured.
It is strange, but I am ok with it. Ideally going forward it would be nice to have maybe 2 top 30 freshmen. I would not have said that 4 or 5 years ago. Now, if a team plays starts more than 2 freshmen, I don't think they win a title in this NIL/portal era.
