Highlands coaching update
Jack of all Trades replied to FrankNicodemus's topic in KY Girls Soccer (High School)
Well they had a good young coach that was a Highlands grad and ran him off. Guess state final appearances were not enough. Seems most hires by this AD and principal have not gone too well. Also concerns me when two HHS grads who each had great success have chosen to step aside. Is it possible that all of these situations are related? -

You are preaching to the wrong person. It is still a little early, but there are some areas that need to improve over the next couple of weeks if this team has aspirations to make a title run. -

If you are happy with that fine. Will not win a title. -

The frosh QB for Campbell was knocked out with concussion after playing just a few plays. Those that think Highlands walked through this game better go watch the film. Campbell had ball inside the 20 three times and turned ball over. Liked what I saw from Highlands offense last night, defense is another story. Still work to be done in that area. -

I was told that this CovCath team played the Highlands kids twice as 7th graders and smoked them twice. Speaks well for the Birds kids putting in the work. -
As I said in the LexCath game thread, the offensive line for Highlands is not the issue. They gained well over 5 yards per rush attempt. Problem is the play calling, it has no real scheme. Passing game consists of throw deep or throw bubble screens. No intermediate game. That also caused some problems last year. Defensive scheme struggles on the edge and also in the vertical passing game. The 4 man front does not work unless you have two speedy guys on the edges. Ferring did some of that late and had success. Putting two guys over one split end makes no sense either. Walk that LB up to the line of scrimmage and set the edge or better yet heat up the quarterback. This will be a tight game IMO.

Spot on analysis Teddy. Combine that with moving away from 4 man front and sounds like state title. -

After sleeping on it a bit, here are my thoughts. Offense will be very solid. Big line that can move which enables you to do a lot of things. Defense needs some work. Poor tackling and find a way to hold the edge and the pass right down the middle. It was a scrimmage, so these things can be fixed. This team will be in the conversation for a state championship in 5A.
