  1. Well, the ADI certainly gets all of us talking each week and that is probably their intent in coming up with such a column. But, it's reallly only the opinion of a few and really, the only thing that matters is how the kids do in the games. How do you guys think this weather will impact the games. Particulary with all the extremely hot weather we've had. Will there be a lot of injuries with the colder weather?
  2. I think Russell and Belfry respect one another and we had a wonderful experience at their field last year. I don't mean due to the win, but the folks were great, the facility is top-notch, and the whole experience was so positive because they made us feel so welcome. As for the experience of subs coming into the game the other night at Lawrence County, most of those seemed to be Seniors who don't start and don't play on the JV. There were a few Sophomores and a couple Juniors, but most seemed to be Seniors that were in for a few plays and then out. Old Rambler, you just keep posting on here. I enjoy your comments and observations.
  3. What sweet folks over in Ramtown with all their kind offers. Ram- good luck keeping all the JFL kids together. They get so excited on JFL nights. I'm heading to Louisa, but I know that Old Rambler will keep us all updated on the Raceland/Greenup game on here. I always look forward to reading everyone's impressions of the games. Good Luck to All:cool:
  4. I am on my lunch time and I just started laughing out loud at Ram's most recent posts. You guys are so funny when you get in each other's face and tease. Thanks for some lighthearted teasing-- I need a good laugh. It will be a great evening for football--good luck to both teams. I hear that Raceland is on the mend and are really focused, and Greenup has a good bunch of kids too.
  5. What a wonderful article, I don't know all the guys who were the subjects of that story, but I've known Bun Wilson for a number of years. What a funny, sweet, smart man. I'm so proud of him. I hope my own son lives such a long, productive life and still has buddies around at the end and the ability to remember these days of high school and the great teams and individuals he played with and against.
  6. Russell Guys-- Quit giving Rambler the satisfaction of rising to the bait. Who cares if he slams Russell now by saying we aren't as good as some other team Raceland plays this year. As my grandmother used to say, the proof will be in the pudding next month. After this weekend our friends from Raceland will have a second loss and Russell will still be undefeated and ranked higher in our class than Raceland is in its class. Take the high road guys.
  7. From reading some of the other threads involving Mercer fans, it appears that there are some problems between parents and coaches that may be adversely affecting the kids. I hope that those problems can be resolved so the kids can have a good year. That being said, I think this animosity is filtering down to the kids and I think that Pulaski with the home field advantage will win a close one. I'm a Russell mom and I wish for nothing but the best for both teams this year.
  8. Rambler, you are a man of many faces and moods. A true man of mystery. I never know what little picture will accompany your witty statements.
  9. Actually, JFL goes through the 6th grade and then the schools take over. I just know that in JFL my son learned to love football at a young age, learned basic skills and appreciated the joy of playing with other kids on a team. It appears from the other posts that other kids enjoy these same benefits. I know that no matter how good Russell's high school team is, there are many great guys at the JFL level who gave our kids these wonderful building blocks for good teams.
  10. All due respect but my son's JFL teams have always beaten Raceland and Boyd County, as well as his Middle school and Freshman teams. In fact, I don't remember Raceland or Boyd JFL teams beating any of the teams that are in his age groups. Of course, my Middle Age Memory loss could be leading me astray. I only know that for the older kids and my son's age groups, their teams have focused on team concept. Anyway, good luck to Boyd County tonight and hopefully both our teams will exhibit great TEAM characteristics.
  11. Our kids learn from an early age from our JFL coaches that football is a team sport and the focus is on the team. Kids are proud to be on an offensive line and work as a unit, to learn that each position is as important as the other and that no one person is more important that the whole. I guess that explains the success here. We focus on the team. Also, many of our football player receive academic honors and scholarships for college. They were good high school players, but they focus on the academics at college.
  12. Yoter--Sorry to hear your inaccurate assessment of the Russell statebound excursion last year and to the 2A championship. I would attribute your sour apples to inexperience and misinformation. Sorry you lost the game the other night, but don't dump on other programs in your anger. I wish good things for your team, it has great kids and a great coach.
  13. These are kids and they learn as they play, particularly the young ones. It is apparent they were very fast learners in the Friday night game, coming back in the second half. I have every confidence that they will continue to learn as all our teams do. That's what high school football is all about. No team does everything correctly, but they learn and isn't is awesome to watch when a play goes as planned, or even when it doesn't, the kids manage to pull something out. Hopefully they learn to adapt and apply what they learn. That's life and the bigger picture in this whole thing. WHEW, that was a mouthful. Sorry for the philosophical rambling, I just had a Starbucks moment. Boy that caffeine can clear the head.
  14. Ithink I know the secret to Raceland's success Friday night. I saw some of their players at Starbucks in Ashland Thursday night getting some of that high Octane caffeine. I must have propelled them through that game. Congratulations. And when you play Russell, we'll have to try and block all roads to Starbucks the night before.
  15. Aren't our kids fortunate, from all area schools that they live in an area where they receive so much support from their communities. I can't imagine the kids or the coaches are complaining that the Raceland field is "too crowded". I think it adds to the excitement of the game and is a real compliment to the teams from both schools. I can't wait for the game and I hope the place is packed! Can we please quit bickering about the same points? Here's to a great season for all.
