  1. Let's move the Sweet 16 to Springfield, Mass! After all, it is the home of the Basketball Hall of Fame. Wouldn't that be a great place for the top 16 high basketball teams in Kentucky play for the State Basketball Championship? Slippery slopes are by their nature -- slippery. *********************************** The bottom line is this: Play within the districts first and let the District Champions play for the Regional Championship.
  2. Ram, you are off base here. Look at Class 4A District 7 and Class 4A District 8. District-4-7- Bell County, Knox Central, Madison Southern, McCreary Central, Rockcastle County District-4-8- Boyd County, Greenup County, Lawrence County, Rowan County In District 7, the longest trip would be from McCreary Central to Madison Southern -- I am guessing an hour and a half. In District 8, the longest trip would be from Greenup County or Lawrence County to Rowan County -- about an hour and a quarter. The longest Interdistrict game would be from McCreary Central (on the Tennessee border) and Greenup County (on the Ohio border) -- that's about 4 hours of travel time!
  3. I know how my head coach felt and how he "voted" on the issue. The "vote" at the KFCA Coaches Clinic for the State Championships was a sham. Coaches were first asked if they wanted to change the current "same district" format back to the former "cross district" format. Only about half of the coaches raised their hands. A "vote" was not taken nor did any discussion occur concerning keeping the format the same. Just remember, the folks from Class 4A District 7 -- their #3 and #4 seeds -- have to travel to NE KY to play the #1 and #2 seeds in Class 4A District 8, as well. District-4-7- Bell County, Knox Central, Madison Southern, McCreary Central, Rockcastle County District-4-8- Boyd County, Greenup County, Lawrence County, Rowan County
  4. How about a tally on how each school "voted" on this?
  5. See how few people from 4A District 8 travel to Bell County or Rockcastle County for their playoff games. Bright idea changing it back guys when gas is $3.61/gallon and very, very few people in NE Kentucky can afford to travel 30 miles to a ballgame let alone 300+ roundtrip to Bell County or Rockcastle County!
  6. I believe the OL is wide open. Vince Glynn even has a chance at starting tackle, too.
  7. I heard that Jett Troxler will be moved to guard in 2008.
  8. Ryan Adkins (Sr to be) and Michael Gullett (Jr to be) came out for Spring Football. Both show tremendous potential to assist on both offense and defense.
  9. I believe that most of the skill players have a great shot at playing RB in either the 1 or 2 back set. Either way, there exists a plethora of speed available to run the Tony Franklin System again in 2008. Zach Smith is playing baseball this year. Coach Logan has him pinch-running when he isn't starting (in an already talent-rich baseball lineup). He will have a terrific senior season. Drew Hannah and David Berry will be part of the mix in the offense; however, it is tough to say at which positions each will play. Look for them to have terrific senior seasons out in space. Michael Grubb has good hands, too. He should make some great plays as a possession receiver. With his height, he should have a fantastic senior season. At this point, it is tough to say what impact the 2008 sophomore class will bring to the varsity level. I'm not a big fan of discussing players who have never made an impact at the varsity level except in mop-up situations. Prove your worth on the field first, then let the chips fall where they may.
  10. From what I have heard, David Berry is on schedule with the rehab of his knee.
  11. Like I said above, it will be a battle to see who will start each week. The biggest, strongest, and fastest will start each week on the OL. It is up to the players to determine who plays -- not the coaching staff. If you want to play badly enough, then you will get into the weight room and make yourself, and ultimately the team, better!
  12. Zach Sexton (LT) and Joe Bob Greenslate (RT and C) return as starters from 2007 on the OL. It will be a battle to determine who will start on the OL each week in 2008.
  13. The most important aspect of the 2008 team is that they believe in the system and each other. They are a confident bunch. They have a destiny and understand how to reach it. This will be the first year that each team member has had Coach Sammons as his only head coach at GCHS! The offense will continue to impress and improve from the last 6 games of 2007 when GCHS averaged over 35 points per game. The Tony Franklin System has worked wonders for the Musketeers. Look for the Musketeers to challenge the box and the field much more this year. The defense must improve since it gave up 342 points in 13 games in 2007. The defensive unit will be a quick bunch -- good, tough hitters, too. Spring ball was a success for much of the defensive unit as the players now have a better grasp of Coach Sammons' defensive philosophy. Russell @ GCHS on 8/29 Only 4 1/2 months away!
  14. Alan Hatcher coached at Portsmouth HS (Ohio) in 1992. Portsmouth is across the river from Greenup County. He had a 9-12 record during his 1 year at the school. Unfortunately, his tenure followed Joe Suboticki's: 1988-1991 Joe Suboticki / record 94-11 Highlights: led Trojans to 4 District Titles, 2 Regional Titles, 4 League Titles, state champions 1988, state runners-up 1990. Won 2 state championships with Akron SVSM, and 1 as an asst.coach at Barberton. WINNING PCT. .895 http://phstrojansbball.tripod.com/id5.html
  15. Pardon the analogy, but Greenup County has to refill its "shotgun" at this time. Several "shells" on the OL and several "buckshot" in the skill positions must be "reloaded" before any talk of even a District Championship can be discussed.
  16. Good win for the Musketeers as they go to 2-1 on the season!
  17. Will there be any new players playing football in 2008 for the Raceland Rams? In-District? Out-of-District/Transfers?
  18. The spread has worked well at Raceland, Lewis County, and Greenup County...
  19. ...why don't you just call him Voldemort from Harry Potter? "He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named."
  20. 5 players from Greenup County: Cory Justice TJ Stephenson PJ Ratcliff Brent Yates Stewart Abrams
  21. I heard that 4 of the 6 participants placed in their weight divisions in at least 1 event for Greenup County. Last year, GCHS also had about 4 participants who placed in the event.
