  1. He joins two other 20-somethings in their first year as head coach in NE KY: ShaDon Brown at Rowan County Luke Salmons at Lawrence County
  2. It's possible for anybody to have an off night. Is it possible for Raceland to defeat Greenup County? Yes Is it probable that Raceland will defeat Greenup County? No However, Greenup County needs to bring its A game for the next 5 games to win Region 16.
  3. I'm certain that Eric Craft will participate in both as he did in 2007.
  4. Greenup County may not get past Raceland on Monday in the Districts!
  5. When I first learned to park a car, I used orange cones to learn how to parallel park. When I first drove a car, my father and I found a location where there were no other cars to make me nervous. When I became proficient at parallel parking and driving, I took the state test to obtain my driver's license. That is a good learning model for any teenager in any situation.

  8. Coach Sammons and his staff have spoken to all "able-bodied" students who do not currently play on the football team. A couple of players were present during Spring Football such as Ryan Adkins and Michael Gullett -- who had never played football at GCHS. Reed, Greenslate, Stringfellow, etc. are all welcomed and encouraged to play football, especially with the Tony Franklin System.
  9. J-R, would you say that one of the keys to defeating Russell was holding Russell's offense to a limited number of points, first downs, and time of possession -- except for the Simon Kenton game?
  10. All would make great additions on defense, too.
  11. To my knowledge, no official announcement has been made at the high school concerning Coach Warnock not returning for 2008.
  12. If any coaches have officially left the team, then that is news to me. I had heard that all of the coaching staff from last year has been present for some part of either weightlifting or spring ball.
  13. The #1 seed in District 8 will still have home field advantage until the State Championship Game.
  14. J-R, you seem quite enthusiastic about Russell Football-- let me ask you a question. Since Russell is unstoppable, how did the following teams defeat the Red Devils over the last 5 seasons? In other words, what did these teams do to make a difference in the game? (With the exception of the Simon Kenton game, it appears that shutting down Russell's offense was the answer.) 10/12/2007 Simon Kenton 42 Russell 41 11/23/2007 Breathitt County 20 Russell 17 09/02/2006 Ashland 24 Russell 21 (3OT) 12/01/2006 Mercer County 15 Russell 12 09/09/2005 Boyd County 33 Russell 14 11/26/2004 Belfry 39 Russell 17 09/05/2003 Ashland 33 Russell 14 10/17/2003 Estill County 35 Russell 14 11/21/2003 Lloyd Memorial 30 Russell 12
  15. You're right...it is 7 vs. 8. I should have stuck with my first choice. KHSAA hasn't updated that page yet. Here is the news with the correct information: http://www.khsaa.org/news/20072008/nr041708.pdf
  16. In addition, the winner of Region 4 will host the State Semifinal game against the Region 3 winner (District 5 vs. District 7 Champion). What does that mean? The #1 seed from District 8 (Greenup Co., Boyd Co., Lawrence Co., Rowan Co.) will have home field advantage until the State Championships. Coach Sammons mentioned this at the 2007 Football Banquet. http://www.khsaa.org/football/playoffpairings.pdf For the semi-state round (fourth round), the champion of region 1 will play the champion of Region 2 while the champion of Region 3 will play the champion of Region 4. The team representing the even-numbered Region shall host the games in even-numbered years, while the team representing the odd-numbered Region shall host the game in odd-numbered years.
  17. 1st round of playoffs: 4A D8 #4 @ 4A D6 #1 4A D6 #3 @ 4A D8 #2 4A D6 #4 @ 4A D8 #1 4A D8 #3 @ 4A D6 #2 4A District 6: 1.) Lexington Catholic 2.) Boyle County 3.) East Jessamine 4.) West Jessamine 4A District 8: 1.) Greenup County 2.) Boyd County 3.) Rowan County 4.) Lawrence County ********************************************* I see it this way: Regional Quarterfinals: Lawrence County @ Lexington Catholic Rowan County @ Boyle County East Jessamine @ Boyd County West Jessamine @ Greenup County Regional Semifinals: Boyle County @ Greenup County Boyd County @ Lexington Catholic Regional Finals: Lexington Catholic @ Greenup County (Greenup County gets the home game because of the following rule:) The highest seed (finishing position in the district) shall host the regional championship game (third round). Should teams with the same seeding meet in the third round, the team representing the even-numbered District shall host the games in even-numbered years, while the team representing the odd-numbered District shall host the game in odd-numbered years. If the paired districts are both even or both odd, the highest numbered district shall host the game in even numbered years and the lowest numbered district shall host the game in odd numbered years.
  18. http://www.khsaa.org/football/playoffpairings.pdf I messed up. The regionals have District 6 playing District 8 in 2008. 4A District 6 Boyle County East Jessamine Lexington Catholic West Jessamine
  19. How does everybody see the Region shaping up? Since 4A District 7 plays 4A District 8 in 2008, how do you see the crossover district playoffs shaping up this year? 1st round of playoffs: 4A D8 #4 @ 4A D7 #1 4A D7 #3 @ 4A D8 #2 4A D7 #4 @ 4A D8 #1 4A D8 #3 @ 4A D7 #2 4A District 7: Bell County Knox Central Madison Southern McCreary Central Rockcastle County 4A District 8: Boyd County Greenup County Lawrence County Rowan County

  22. If the DE goes "as deep as the ball", then that opens the door for an easy kickout block by a pulling guard - whether on the Sweep or Boot.
  23. Coach Sammons' defense gave Russell its worse defeat in 2002 while he was HC at Portsmouth West. Russell gave (15-0) Breathitt County their best game of the season in the State Semis. Russell 2002 (11-3) 8/30/02 @ Greenup County 28-10 (W) 9/6/02 @ Ashland Blazer 19-28 (L) 9/13/02 Boyd County 40-18 (W) 9/20/02 Mason County 12-7 (W) 9/28/02 @ Fleming County 42-6 (W) 10/4/02 Portsmouth West, OH 14-28 (L) 10/11/02 West Carter 34-8 (W) 10/18/02 @ Bath County 49-14 (W) 10/25/02 East Carter 33-6 (W) 11/1/02 @ Lewis County 30-0 (W) 11/8/02 Newport 31-14 (W) Class AA Football State Tournament 11/15/02 Carroll County 47-0 (W) Class AA Football State Tournament 11/22/02 Mason County (@ Ashland Blazer) 11-8 (W) Class AA Football State Tournament 11/29/02 @ Breathitt County 27-28 (L) Class AA Football State Tournament (overtime)
