  1. The logical thing to do is to do what is already being done. Making striking with the helmet illegal. Why have deaths in football went down? Because coaching got better. We started teaching kids to tackle with their heads up and to stop running with there heads down. Remember the statistics earlier....342 deaths down to 82. Our cannot take all the risk out. No matter how many rules you put in. We are talking about bodies crashing into bodies here. If your talking about making helmets differently but taking the face mask off is kinda nuts to me. Why were they put on in the first place? Face protection?
  2. Do you watch football? You make it sound that someone limps off on every play. The vast majority of lower leg injuries are not from shots but either getting twisted or from planting and cutting. Hardly ever do you see a Willis McGahee type injury to the knee from direct contact. Actually rules makers are driving players to hit lower and lower. That's what all the helmet to helmet rules are for.
  3. My problem is that everybody wants to point a finger. Everybody wants to point a finger at something. They want to find a cause when in all actuality there are many causes. Just like the heat issues. Everyone has had underlying medication/ supplement issues. No no one knows how a concussion will effect you later in life. I've had 4 documented ones. We also don't know what drinking diet Pepsi will do to some of us either. We don't know what all the chemicals in fast food will do to us either but does anyone worry about that stuff? No there's no money in it. It's a hot button issue because of money. There are things much more dangerous than football out there that people do everyday.
  4. Here's some math. 38 of those kids will have a heart attack. Better back away from the McDonald's and bacon. Look millions of kids play football without incident. You can find an isolated incident in any situation. Statistics say you'll have 3 to 4 car accidents in your lifetime. Better stop driving. Do your homework, go watch a practice. If a coach practices football and not hitting then everyone out there is pretty safe. Are they completely safe no but they aren't in anything.
  5. The difference is this all become publicized. People love to hear about bad stuff happening. Then they believe everything they see and read. These days you hear about everyone of these instances instead of not hearing about it because it was only in the local paper. As i type this right now someone can search it that lives in Alaska thats never heard of podunk Kentucky. Not one heat related death here in Kentucky has just been because of the heat. There have been other contributing factors. Compare the deaths and head injuries to ATVs and motorcycles and its not even close. While no one sets off the alarms for their dear ole Kawasaki or that Camaro that mommy and daddy bought little Johnny that brings me to the next point. Everyone is looking to sue someone. Schools and states have money, insurance companies have money. This is why this is all a big deal. Someone wants a buck. Just like the NFL. This never was an issue til they figured out you can get money from it. Anybody that has a brain knows that football, basketball, baseball will all take a toll on their body. As will motocross, working in the hayfield, 4 wheeling, etc. it's weighing the lessons and the friendships you get from football that you have to weigh this against. I guess you can develop friends at a chess match but its not the same. There will always be injuries, some will be major, some will not. Football has changed and coaches aren't out there killing these kids ( or at least ours doesn't ) but it is a violent sport. You will never be able to remove all the risk. I think the rewards are much higher than the risk.
  6. I wondered how long it would take until the ole " we work harder that you" excuse would come out. This horse has been beat to death. Let me outline why Trinity is great. 1. They have double the male population of any other school thus giving them more guys to choose out of. 2. Tradition, facilities all brings athletes into the school. 3. Diversity of genetics. This one doesn't get hit on much but living in large metropolitan area a more diverse population can have kids versus a rural area where the same tired genetics is producing the same type kid that it has for years. 4. Money. I've never been there but I'm sure that they have the nicest of everything where most schools I know of have the same training equipment that they have for years. Money also allows for the hiring of more coaches. More capable coaches allows for better football players. Look how Bowling Green dominates year in and year out. Well all of their coaches were former head coaches. They should do well. 5. Parents have money. Schools who are private have parents who have money who at some point in their lives motivated, and thus will motivate their son to do well. Success while it isn't born in can be passed from generation to generation just like a kid that sees no way out can be passed from generation to generation. This would seem to be more the case at private schools. Competition. All players on Trinity's team know if they don't preform, that there is a guy behind them that can play. This is not the case everywhere in the state. I've seen coaches have to move around 4 players before when 1 gets hurt in some games. It's just really hard to keep consistent depth when you don't have all the things outlined above. Trinity's dedication is not heads and shoulders over some other teams in Ky. They have advantages that other kids do not. I'm not complaining about anything I'm just stating facts.
  7. Heck no. No one can win with the wishbone except Belfry. The nerve of this thread. :scared:
  8. This will be their best team to date. One of the favorites to win the district.
  9. Tom Larkey won this year 2012. Larkey and Rains are the only two coaches that have won.
  10. Larkey, Hilton and Harp are in the top 20 coaches in state history. I think that would make them legends. The fact is you will never be able to play this game "out of a season". Seasons go year round for most sports. The only thing this bowl lacks unified support from around the state from the players and coaches. Once that happens the game will grow even more popular than it is.
  11. Pendleton County under Teegarden 2006 3-7 2007 4-7 2008 0-11 2009 7-4 Looks like a mixed bag.
  12. Isn't he the guy that helped run Pendleton County into the ground?
  13. No ill take the best players in high school right now reguardless if they are D1 or not today. All I 'm saying is some kids get D1 looks because of their size and not necessarily how they performed. Those kids do not deserve All State even they are said to be D1.
  14. Not the rest of the states fault that some coaches can't get their act together. If you don't pay the water bill it gets shut off without poking or proding.
  15. Just because your going to a D1 school doesn't make you an All State player in my book. There are a lot of really good high school football players that are not D1 players. Alot of that is based on projection and potential. Kinda like how the Heisman doesn't mean your going to be drafted 1st.
  16. I don't have an answer for your question. I don't like it either that they had 8 because I think my team deserved more. With only half of the schools reporting I'd say the schools in your area that see your players didn't vote. Teams will not vote for people they don't see or hear about...the schools that turned their votes in can't be punished for that.
  17. Prove to me which guy is better? Tell me how you know how NCC's left guard is better than Bell County's. When presented with 2 players that are not in the news all the time ( Quick, Timmons, etc) a coach will pick a kid from their area or that they played. That's common sense.
  18. Then why complain? I didn't play your team nor anyone in the vastly superior Northern part of Kentucky. Last time I looked Cov Cath didn't hoist a trophy this year so it seems that you are lumped with the rest of us. My team was 10~2 and didn't put a single guy on the AP or the Best of the Bluegrass so what should I complain about?
  19. Like I said earlier.....It all falls on your head coach. Did he get your players names out there? No its not a popularity contest but stats, or how many trophies you have don't tell the whole story either. Obviously your coach didn't put in the work to make sure your team was represented plain and simple.
  20. Well there are over 200 schools that play football so you do the math.
  21. No it doesnt make sense to me. I don't think any team has 8 all state players on it. It also doesn't make much sense either on the AP poll that you can hardly ever get a player on the squad unless you are from a metro area. This team is decided by coaches. Maybe you should talk to your head coach about getting your players names out there to other coaches. My point is the schools in the rural areas work hard to put their kids on this all state team because we hardly ever make the AP.
