If we can all be honest with ourselves this goes on in just about all high schools baseball programs to one degree or another.

Even without Shover they are still probably the favorite in the 9th. A good question is if they are deep enough in their pitching staff to keep the top arms fresh down the stretch?

Funny stuff:D but on a serious note both of these young men will get some varsity playing time next year and will be top players in NKY by their senior year after they do some of the obligatory "wait your turn" at Ryle.

I think it all depends on how the pitching comes around from the juniors on the staff. I will tell you that there is alot of talent with those guys, they all can throw hard, but will they show that they are pitchers? You can only find this out when the games begin, so let's get it going and the best of luck to everyone.

Even at the 16U or 17U levels they play at these types of tournaments and there were juniors and sophmores from last year who played at the 18U last summer. It still doesn't change the fact that just because some sophmores last year got to play varsity for some smaller schools that they are better players than Ryle's sophmores last year. Once again,"talent" always wins out...

You do see varsity type talent in the summer and on a more frequent basis, most of these players that make these teams are all the best players from their schools team. Go watch The World Series in Nashville or the Indiana Bulls Tournament at Purdue University campus and tell me that there is a big difference than playing in a varsity playoff game. Of course you named two top pitchers in NKY where anyone,when these two are on, will have a difficult time hitting them experienced or not. They are examples of the exceptions I spoke of.

Please tell me why this matters? Talent is talent! A few of the seniors had to wait their turn from last years state bound team, although Sebald and Campbell played regularly, and the vast majority of these boys play select baseball in the summer. A half dozen or so already made the top 18u travel teams in NKY for this coming summer. I will contend that overall the competition they played against this past summer is better that what they will face during the spring season, there is always a few exceptions. You can't tell me that a junior from a smaller school is better than the juniors from Ryle just because they got to play varsity last year out of neccessity. If he is a more talented player that is one thing, but this varsity experience thing for the most part is way over played on here.

I only saw him pitch once last year in the JV regional semi's versus Ryle. He looks like he will be a good pitcher in coming years. On this particular day he didn't get a ton of help defensively and was hit hard at times. Ryle mercy ruled Beechwood 10-0.

Out of this group I saw Greiss pitch and he looked good. The real impact at pitcher for SK will come from Jacob Robinson, I saw him pitch a lot this summer and he has real good stuff. I definitely think SK should be a favorite in their region.

Somewhere in this thread we went from best at each position to who wins the region. Here is my stab at it and for some strange reason I know my list will have its detractors:rolleyes: I do believe however that any of these teams listed can beat the other on any given day. 1-Cov Cath 2-Ryle 3-Dixie 4-Beechwood 5-Boone 6-Highlands 7-NCC 8-Conner

There is only one junior from Ryle on that list and I am not sure which one you don't think is that good. Here we go again with the varsity experience thing again!

I have heard that a 3.5 or higher and a 26 ACT score or higher give you a real good chance at getting some academic money. If a school is even a "little bit interested" in you this is one of the first questions asked, grade point and ACT & SAT scores. If you are a top student a school can all of a sudden become "very interested" in you.

Interesting... not alot of love for the Northern Kentucky teams

I agree Coop on all statements... he is a nice kid that has a opportunity to be a big factor this year if he continues with the strides he has made the last couple of seasons.

Ryle has this competitive situation at almost all positions which should make for a real good team... no one gets comfortable.

Probably won't know this for the next couple of weeks because it could go a couple of ways... all seniors or a mix. It all depends who steps up in tryouts.

Has anybody heard anything yet on Rosters?

Ogden is real good and I also like Jake Robinson of SK to impress.

This "varsity experience" thing always come up on here but doesn't always correlate. In Ryle's case I know six of these "JV players" have made the top 18U teams for this summer and played with the top summer & fall teams this past year (some 18u as sophmores). I would contend that they have played against some pretty stiff "varsity" type competition. They have some excellent senior leadership this year from players who had to wait their turn because of all the senior starters last year. In the end it will have to be proven on the field.

That is a solid starting rotation...

I had the pleasure of watching some of these boys play this fall, some real nice talent... In the case of Ogden, Brown, and Allen they are starting to get the recognition and by trying out and making the Kentucky Kings summer team they will get even more recognition. Most importantly, all great kids too! Is Cain playing summer ball somewhere in NKY?
