Breathitt's Problems Worsen
Sports Fan for LIFE replied to Flash's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
You refer to the last 5 years---Turner taking over in October had nothing tol do with the last 5 years--Paul Green was a Social Studies teacher and left to assume a principal position. -

You are obviously confused!!! Barrett has been in an administrative position for 8+ years, Paul Green was never the AD, and Turner just became Supt. in October of 2007. -

You may think you know for a fact--but your choice of words are not correct. There is no such action as "releasing a kid".You simply place a check mark in the column designated yes or no before the appropriate reason for transfer. When all the truthful answers to the reasons for transfer are "NO"--a student is not going to be declared eligible for the KHSAA. Please view a transfer form on the KHSAA website and you will be much better informed. -

It appears to me that the Owsley school officials are not going to provide misinformation to the KHSAA, regardless of the situation. They did not provide false information regarding any of the transfers to Owsley or from Owsley. Therefore, they have an inelgible player--just like Breathitt does. I agree--the kids are the ones that suffer--and that is a shame. -

You obviously do not have an indepth knowledge of KHSAA Bylaws. You should go online ---it's there for all to read. -

You are exactly right. And custody had to change prior to the start of the school year. This transfer was totally legitimate!! -

There was not a change in adminstration at Owsley during those 5 years. -

You have Lee with a record of 1-1 plus 2 more games = 4??? -

Sports Fan for LIFE replied to GO15AROD's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
The Lee record could not be correct if they have 2 games left--Owsley beat them for the 1 loss that you have-- so what were the results of the other games-each team should have 6 games total????? -
Prayers Go Out to Matt Wright from Owsley

I heard from some fans at the game that the officiating was a bit lacking of control. I understand that there were some technicals, etc. and things were let get out of control throughout the game. Too bad, a kid had to end up badly injured. -

I wonder what the secret is to getting kids eligible. Some schools seem to do this very well. -

They should have--several new transfers!!!! -
I hear that Assistant Coach Cornett and Assistant Coach Mason will continue to coach the Lady Owls. A familiar face to Owsley County Basketball, Charlie Turner, was on the bench with the Coaching Staff at Powell County tonight. I am sure the Owsley faithful remembers January 2005, when Coach Turner and then Lady Owls Coach Paul Green appeared on the bench in Stanton for their first game as the interim Boy's Coaches when the Owls lost their Coach, unexpectedly. How ironic????
-
Good Luck to the Lady Owls amidst the changes that they are currently experiencing. Powell defeated Owsley in Booneville on December 14 by 34 points, 67-33 at a time when the Lady Pirates were without the play of Jones--their star guard, who was out with an injury. Jones:was back at full speed tonight in Stanton, as the Lady Owls were defeated by 21 points. The Lady Owls got several potentially easy shots under the basket that would just not fall for them -- if the Lady Owls play as one--like they did tonight--the offense will come and their season will end with some great memories--which these group of fine young ladies deserve!! Stay focused and be tough!:thumb:

Red River Shootout (Powell County)
Sports Fan for LIFE replied to Maroon Fan's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I do not think this could be proven. I can recall numerous tournaments at Powell County in years past--where Powell was playing and they did not win the tournament or even get past the first game--so you need to look south of Stanton to find some more "home-biased" courts that could perhaps satisfy the criteria that you have established. -

It is very true--I have not been and probably will never be. No reflection on anyone--just not a trip teams from our area will ever make again. Not fun to drive several hours to get beat regardless of the talent levels. Sounds like you feel that way also. -

Sorry--just referring to Pulaski as it was known in the past. I thought some of the folks involved in the 90's were still involved. -

How many free throws did Breathitt shoot in some of their Regional Tourney wins of the past? -

You evidently haven't witnessed any Regional Tournaments in Hazard---at least a few years ago when the eventual Regional Champion had one player awarded 25+ free throws.
