Scatbackskin2 Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Final in the Wymt Classic. Hazard plays June Buchanan for the championship. Cumberland plays Pikeville for third place. Good win for Hazard. I believe that these two teams play at Cumberland later on this season.
Big Game Player Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Sounds to be a 14th region finals. Any stats from this game and what time are the games on Saturday?
Lightning Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 This was a great game. Easy to see that these two teams are two of the best in the mountains. The Warren kid was a big lift for them. Hazard is very physical and gives it on both ends of the court. They go after lose balls and really runs their offense to a T. JBS will have their hands full tonight. Cumberland also is very physical and has a great shot at winning the 13th. Great game overall.
Wizzard Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Very good ballgame to watch. The two new kids really make them a contender in the 14th. Hazard maybe the most athletic team in the 14th along with the most experienced coaching staff IMO.
Lightning Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Just think if Hazard can get Eric Back eligible on how much better and deeper this team can become.
The Professor Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Just think if Hazard can get Eric Back eligible on how much better and deeper this team can become. They had better slow down or they won't have enough basketballs to go around.
Cawoodball player Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 I thought Cumberland played sloppy. They missed enough free throws to win the game, and threw the ball away way too much.
Sports Fan for LIFE Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 They had better slow down or they won't have enough basketballs to go around. You are exactly right--perhaps????eventually?????the KHSAA may wonder why they are getting so many transfers?????????????????
Old School Dr. Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Turnovers and Free Throw Shooting set a very bad tone in this game early and continued throughout for Cumberland in what very easily could have been a win. These things will improve without a doubt, they need more games against top competition to get them ready for the stretch run later this year. Cumberland's weak schedule has obviously had a negative effect on their overall development this year.
bill_ed Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 You are exactly right--perhaps????eventually?????the KHSAA may wonder why they are getting so many transfers????????????????? Coach Whitaker was fired/let go/resigned from Bell Co. He was looking for a job, Hazard was very fortunate to have an opening. The Warren kid, who is their legally adopted son, had been living with the Whitakers in Bell Co. When they made the decision to come to Hazard Warren came with the family. I do not know of any other players having eligibility issues.

Also, everyone knows that the Back kid was never happy under Hatcher at PCC and wanted to play for Coach Holland. I don't think there was any convincing on this one either. THe rest of the team is Hazard boys.
Les Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 I watched the game last night and I'm not as impressed with Cumberland as I thought I would be. I don't believe there's much room between themselves and some other teams.
The Professor Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Cumberland is going to have to learn to shoot free throws or they won't ever be able to win games against good competition. They'll never get out of the 13th shooting from the stripe like they did last night, and according to the TV guys this is fairly normal for the Skins.
lungbuster Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 I have seen Cumberland play several games and IMO this was not even close to how well they can and have played. I also think they didn't play very well the 1st night. The way the play defense will keep them in most games but IMO they need to find a way for Johnson to get more looks at the basket. He will usually be the best player on the court and they can't let him not see the ball on the offensive end. I think the classic will only prepare them for games at the end of the year. Go Skins.
