I think that means that you are agreeing with a lot of things I have said, or at least it sounds that way to me. Les, I respect your passion for the game and I actually think you have a lot of good insights about the game, so try not to take it too personal when we disagree, keep up the good work sir.

I also think JD has done a good job and if they get to the region final or win it you could make a case for him, but anything short of that after the start of the the year they had, a top 5 in the voting would be about right. Having said that, I like JD and think he always does a pretty good job, keep up the good work.

What point are you trying to make about Bell, do you think that they are as good or better without him also, or can you see the potential to be a stronger team after a full year of him playing with them at tournament time. As for Tony P I said earlier that he should be one of the 2 or 3 in the mix for coach of the year, he has done an excellent job with these young guys.

I agree with you Rojas4, he didnt play with them last year so they had not matured as a team with him this year when he left, but to think how strong that team could be after a full year with him come tournament time is scary.

I think this will be a great game, with the experience of South probably prevailing in a tight one 68-66.

Lets see, Conway (London) Phipps (Barbourville) and (Pietrowski) Corbin, all in the immediate delivery area of the Corbin Times. No bias there???????? To not mention Eddie Whitaker in the mix is absolutely RIDICULOUS. He lost a total stud hoss that just happened to be the most dominant inside presence in the 13th region, (much better player than Asher from North) who happens to be on the University of Auburn Campus as we speek on an athletic scholarship and Bell County is still Arguably the best team in the 13th Region and you have the nerve to not mention him as a top candidate for coach of the year. Give us a break form the foolishness

I dont see anyone agreeing with you on that one Jim. I saw North play Cordia with everbody and they looked very average to me, I guess that might be why they were under .500 with all their players. The Incident happened on Conway's watch, and I dont know how you could try to make a case for him as coach of the year with something like that happening on his watch. There is more to being a good coach than just getting your team to play well. I am not saying that it was his fault, but I just dont think that you can legitimately make a case for someone to be coach of the year with all that has happened there this year. Bottom line, he has done a pretty good job with all that has happened, but he should not be in the mix for coach of the year honors.

I am assuming you, just like your pal Les are from the London/Corbin area. I also stand by my statement. They were actually headed nowhere with the team they had in place before THE INCIDENT, then afterwards Shannon and Seidel took over the team and they are probably better without the bunch they lost mainly due to the play of these 2 guys.

If they are that thin skinned and weak I dont believe they should be allowed to ref a game in any region

When is Eddie Whitaker ever going to get his due?? He has done a good job for several years and has arguably the best team in the 13th Region this year. Tony P has done a great job at corbin also getting Corbin's young players to play at such a high level already. Steve Wright is an excellent coach, but with 3 key players from a State Championship team still playing he has not done a bad job, but I dont think should be considered for coach of the year.

I dont think anyone with an 11-16 record anywhere has ever won a coach of the year award. They actually only lost one player that gave them considerable stats (Asher) and they do still have their 2 best players in Shannon and Seidel and they clearly put a more athletic, defensive team on the floor now, so I dont get your case for coach of the year at all, but he has done a good job.

Cumberland actually won 9 games last year and had a good chance to win several other games, (tied or ahead in several games after 3 quarters) The depth issue issue a big concern without a doubt.

Corbin shouldnt have much problem mainly due to the fact that OBI doesnt handle full court pressure defense very well and that is corbin's game. If they dont get rattled early, it could possibly be a decent game, but my guess would be about 78-50

Cumberland is 19-7 playing a very respectable schedule with a 13th Region All A Championship, a very respectable showing in the All A State tournament and the respect of coaches from all around the Region and that is about all I have left to comment on the subject for now Les. They will rally the troops and bring their best to the post season tournaments and time will tell the final chapter.

South Laurel, Bell and Corbin are playing very well right now and are the favorites heading into the post season for the 13th regional title, but there are several teams capable of playing well and knocking these teams off and IMO this years regional tournament will be one of the most competitive in many years. It is a very exciting time for everyone and I am looking forward to watching some excellent basketball over the next 3 weeks, and I will be pulling for whatever team comes out of the 13th Region at Rupp Arena.

Powell could be very dangerous in the tournaments for a lot of reasons, but the main one being they have one heck of a good young coach. This guy is a star on the rise that will no doubt have schools rich in basketball tradition that need a new coach knocking on his door. Good job Powell County, this team has improved from the point of being embarrassed (but without Romans) in preseason by Shelby Valley 100-61 to where they are now, which appears to be as good as anyone in the 14th region and with an outstanding coach and a boat load of seniors will be hard to send home. I think the 14th and 15th play in the first game of the sweet 16, wouldnt that be interesting if SV and Powell get there

That is a good question. Cumberland held Middlesboro to 37 points in the All A Regional playing man to man defense, which is what you have to do against M'boro due to the 3 point shooters they have, but for some reason Cumberland came out in a zone and allowed them some open 3's that got their confidence up, then wholesale subbed in the 2nd quarter, something they had not done this year and let M'boro score 40 in the first half, then just didnt seem to be able to regroup in the 2nd half. It seemed as though their passion for playing defense and passion for the game in general was not there, possibly a (Bell/Corbin back to back) hangover.

I respectfully disagree with the (if they played better defense the first half comment) but, I understand until Cumberland proves they can beat one of the top 4 they will not get the respect they have worked very hard to attain. They are a very solid basketball team and I believe they will keep working very hard to achieve their goals and deserve much more respect than LES has shown them in his comments.

Les, it appears you use the word Ease kind of loosely when referring to the way Corbin handled Cumberland in the 2nd half of their game Saturday. I dont think coach Tony P. thought it was too easy, nor did anyone else that has commented on the game. The Redhounds were down at the half and made a strong surge early in the 3rd, while Cumberland continued to try to run and gun with them, which was a mistake mainly due to the fact they only went 6 deep on their bench, while Corbin went 10 without loosing much when they substituted. Then late in the game, with Cumberland wore down to add to the final margin there was a technical during a Cumberland possession that turned out to be a 6 point turn around (instead of Cumberland scoring 2, Corbin scored 4) that lead to the final margin being a misleading 18 points. The bottom line IMO is Corbin is a very solid team, but no where close to 18 points better than Cumberland and if they meet again in the regional tournament it will be a completely different game, much closer if not a toss up either way.
