  1. I don't know the name of the mystery player, but it is not Salyers. Is the mystery player eligible? How can we answer that question, without knowing the circumstances of the family’s move to NKy? Let’s assume the Mystery Parents are following the rules. If they have legitimate reasons the transfer is late, I believe the KHSAA will rule eligible.
  2. Thanks for sharing the great news 24smom! Also, thanks to the KHSAA for the "reinterpretation" to the rule. I know my daugher appreciates the opportunity.
  3. By law 8: Student-athletes in football and/or basketball may not participate in outside competition in any organized setting including camps, clinics, scrimmages or games, from the first day of school until after the last game of the season. Let's change this rule! Instead of "the first day of school", change it to "from October 15th until after the last game of the season." Ask your High School Coach if he/she would support this change. Post the name of the school, the coach’s name, and their answer on this thread. (Tell them you are going to post their answer on Bluegrasspreps.) Let’s see where they stand.
  4. Changing the rule from “first day of school” to “October 15th” would allow girls from Kentucky to be seen by hundreds of College coaches and scouts on September 29th and 30th. How can we have a rule that stops girls from playing basketball? What country is this? Please ask your school to file an amendment that will change the date on Bylaw 8, from first day of school to October 15th. I agree the rule "came about with good intentions," before exposure tournaments. This is even more of a reason to make a change. The rule is out dated.
  5. After school begins, the KHSAA does not allow girls to play in Exposure basketball tournaments. So, while our girls sit at home, girls from Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Pennsylvania, etc. play in Exposure tournaments in front of hundreds of college coaches and scouts. Why? It has been this way for decades, says the KHSAA. Now, the staff at the KHSAA are not at fault for the rule, they just enforce it. So, if a Kentucky girl plays in an Exposure tournament, she would NOT be allowed to play high school basketball! I have been told the only way to change this rule is to ask my daughter’s H. S. Athletic Director to submit an amendment to the KHSAA. If you would like this rule changed, please talk to your H. S. Athletic Director. What do you think? Is this a good rule? Who does the rule benefit?
  6. Flatrock, Not unless that family is planning a big suprise present for us! I don't know of any Southwestern girl that is transferring to Conner.
  7. Doubledeuce, I do not know who they are. I wish I did.
  8. I guess we will all have to wait until basketball starts in October to find out, because it is the best kept secret in NKy, if indeed it is true. Of course I am biased, but I think Conner will have a good team, even if these young ladies don’t transfer to our school.
  9. I sure wish I could Flatrock, but I am in the dark on this one. It may be just a rumor. CHS won't have a lot of height, but we just got back from 15u AAU Nationals where we saw a team called the Mid-Atlantic Comets finish 4th in the Nation with only one girl over 5'8", and she was maybe 5'11". They played a swarming full court defense the entire game and scored in transition. To me, height is overrated. If you play solid defense and box out, you can beat big girls with speed. By the time the Bigs make it down the floor, the ball is going the other way. Just my opinion.
  10. Conner lost 3 outstanding seniors that were starter's from last year's team. Also, we had a senior to be this year transfer to Ryle and another senior to be quit the team. We do have some really talented underclassmen that will have to step up this year. I agree with everyone though, this team camp was just to get experience and we don't think it will have anything to do when we start playing for real! Hope everyone has a good rest of the summer! I hope the 9th Region shines this year so all of our girls get the recognition they deserve!
  11. Kentucky #15 Judy Albanese – Notre Dame #11 Allison Long – Conner #23 Courney Clifton – Lexington Christian #52 Clara Mitchell – Lexington Christian #10 Kayla Smith – Simon Kenton #21 Chelsea Tolliver – Simon Kenton #22 Devin Fothergill – Southwestern #44 Ashley Fowler – Southwestern #12 Stephanie Salyers – Southwestern Ohio #20 Katie Comello – Colerain, Ohio
  12. Isn’t it ok to congratulate these ladies for this accomplishment? Nine of the ten girls on this team play high school basketball in Ky. There were lots of teams from Kentucky at this exposure tournament. This is what they do in the summer. They all play great basketball, and we should recognize all of their accomplishments. The state of Ky. has great basketball players! Let’s help them get as much recognition as possible.
  13. No need to talk about Conner playing NCC, with Holmes in front of them. Anyone can win the 9th Region. It’s a three game season and anyone can get hot. If Conner is able to beat Holmes, don’t automatically assume Conner will lose to NCC. Conner lost to NCC AT NCC, on senior night, and Conner didn’t play well. I also don’t think it’s an automatic assumption that NCC beats Dixie.
  14. Conner has been starting 3 seniors, 1 junior, and 1 sophomore. Other players are one freshman, 3 sophomores, and 3 juniors. I think. It's late.
  15. I believe if you talked to 3 Conner’s parents, they may have a different opinion. This kind of play may not be this players “norm”, but last Saturday night the hit she delivered could have led to injury. As you know, when you are hit in mid air, the shooter is defenseless. The force turned her entire body in mid air and she landed on her right shoulder. There is no place for that kind of play in basketball. How can that be defended? It is not ok to ever slam into someone that is in mid air. That is wrong. Hopefully, if we raise more awareness about this issue, it will help stop this kind of play. It doesn’t make the game better.
  16. An Intentional foul was not called and the referee was in position to make the right call.
  17. Conner 60 Highlands 50 For Conner, #12 Long had 19 points, #11 Stephanie Hodges had her third straight double double, #1 Huff had a season high 12 points, and even though Senior point guard #31 Kat O’Neill had a tough shooting night, she still provided great leadership and key baskets for Conner. The entire Conner team contributed for the win. As reported in the paper, Coach Warfield changing to a zone in the second half kept Highlands off the free throw line and Highlands had no answer. Conner played disciplined ball and made free throws down the stretch to seal the victory. The only low point of the game occurred when a Highland Heights player delivered a cheap shot to a Conner player on a breakaway lay-up. The Highlands player didn’t go for the ball, but pulled the Conner player down using both hands hitting her at the shoulder. This knock down was while the Conner player was in mid air after the ball was already released, with no way to protect herself. This ugly incident brings me to a question for everyone, “How long are we going to allow cheap shots on lay-ups?” Even the NBA doesn’t tolerate this anymore. I’m sure some will say, “It’s a hard foul and part of the game.” I’m not buying that anymore. Those days are long gone. This time the player was not seriously hurt. Next time, she may not be so lucky. • It is NOT the right of the defensive player to intentionally try to harm the player going for a lay-up!!!! • It is time for coaches and parents to teach their kids that it is not acceptable to intentionally hurt another player. Ironically, in the second half the tables were turned. This same Highlands player had a breakaway lay-up, and the same Conner player that had been the victim of the cheap shot earlier, was the trailing defensive player. The Conner player showed a lot of class by not retaliating with a “hard” foul…..she just stole the ball away from her. So, let’s hear what you think. Do you want to see an end to cheap shots or are you in favor of that style of play?
  18. My apologies 3ptshooter. Even though your post quoted DD, it seemed that you were simply echoing DD’s comments, but just more emphatically and directly at me. I just read it again, and it still feels the same way. I guess the written word can be so…..tricky. Ain’t that funny? This is the second thread I have read with negative comments about Conner.
  19. I didn’t say anyone was told they couldn’t play. Those are your words Old Guy. The coaches decide who will play or not play. Those who aren’t coaches usually don’t know the reasons why those decisions are made. The statements you make are not facts, just simply your opinion. It must be great having a school that treats everyone so fairly. I will make an outsider observation, just like you Old Guy. How can a player average 20 pts a game during the JV tournament, but not even get off the bench in a varsity game? Why would a coach not want to develop a kid like that for the future? Are you kidding? If you feel the need, please tell us more bad things about Conner’s past. As far as the present, I think the program is headed in the right direction.
  20. Are you talking about the freshman? Do you want Conner to play more freshman in the JV tournament? Do you also want Conner to play 8th graders in the freshman tournament?
  21. Conner had only 8 girls on the bench today. (Their 9th player could not make the game.) Conner just doesn't have a lot of girls in their program, period. If you recall, girls that used to play at Conner now play at Ryle, Boone, Notre Dame, etc. I guess they could play more freshman on JV, would that make you happy?
  22. What happened 3ptshooter? "Boone by 20. W/out Figgins that kills them." I guess Bradley and Switzer couldn't contain Tolliver and Conley. Chelsea Tolliver doesn't get enough credit. She can play great defense, score, and rebound. She is the total player! CONGRATULATIONS SK!
