  1. Hayden use to play in the wingt. I am not sure what year Rains went to the TFS stuff and it might have been around his freshman year. If you live in certain area moving might be an option if you son attends a smaller school but in most cases moving so your son can play for a larger program is not an option. Considering many 1A schools are in rural locations (your not moving for many a social/economic) or are private (so the parent has alreayd made a choice on where th kid will play). Size of the school has nothing to do with excution of scheme. Your ability to excute your scheme comes down to coaching and coach ability. He reminds me of Jones-Drew as far as build and strength. Drew did just fine in HS playing in the split back veer.
  2. Is that the game where the kid threw the ball up in the air?
  3. Not sayin gthis is the case but the offical play clock is kept by the officals not the clock.
  4. They can go to those things. Just like a coach can use his personal day and the district can not stop him/her. They are not allowed to ask you why you want to take your personal day or what you are doing. It is when you use sick leave it would be an issue or you using it as PD. One thing I keep seeing in the thread is the whole "I pay taxes" and so do the coaches. They pay taxes just like everyone else. The years we have been able to go to the finals the boosters paid for our subs so no money came from the school.
  5. No, you get what you agree to or accept. I work with some coaches that get 0.00 for their time (even with pay it is not much different). They do not deserve to make 0.00. They deserve more but there is not any money.
  6. If you look at the clinic scene it starts up in about Jan and goes through late spring early summer. Going to a clinic right before you start your season or at the beginning of the year is not going to help you. By then you should have your research done and plan in place. There is also a select few places that honestly put coaching before teaching when making a hire. You get further south in AL or TX and then you might be talking a little bit different story. Many of the people doing the hiring of the coach are on the clueless side.
  7. Yes people talk about the classroom. I did not say we sit around talking instructional strategies, DWBs, Kagan and the such. We (or at least I) most certainly have talked about the classroom. They also talk about their kids, wife, dog, house, parents, the night before and a number of other things other than football. A majority of the coaches sit in the same area or even inside during the games. Not every coach is interested in every game. Of the past 6 years I have been as a coach I have talked about a ton of other things than just football.
  8. Read my whole post including what I quoted. Below is what I quoted "Originally Posted by hop82 Lol, who'd want to go to a math seminar, anyway?" My response was in no way attempting to compare it. I was answering the question of who would want to go to a math seminar. Well if I was given a plane ticket to Dallas, free hotel and a paid week away from school (which took NONE of my personal/sick days) then yes I would want to go to a math seminar even though I do not teach math. Now to say going to the state championship games is not beneficial to the education of students is being short sighted. A large majority of coaches are also teachers. It is not uncommon at all to talk about the classroom while at the championship games. Many a good idea and resource has been gained from my fellow teachers that are also coaches.
  9. Something else about the State Championships. There are meetings and clinics going on the day before the games start. I do not have the agenda but it is basically a KY football coaches clinic/meeting. For those that are not teachers I can understand why there would be misunderstandings about personal days. In many districts you get 1 personal day. In all districts that I am aware of you have to sign an affidavit stating the reason (sick, personal, etc) you were not at work. A district can come after you if you claim a sick day and you or a family member was not sick. This is the only job (I have worked other state jobs before) that required you to sign such a paper. Last year when we went to the finals we checked it as professional development. What a number of schools do is build in the sub pay for such events like the state finals, sweet 16, etc into the athletic budget and/or it is paid for by boosters.
  10. We sent a number of math teachers from each grade to Dallas last year for a conference during the school year.
  11. Just from ESPN: Leach says he is happy at TT and is not going any where.
  12. TT and Leach do not have the best relationship. It was just last year I believe they had a contract issue.
  13. Leach looks even better with the win over the Sooners.
  14. They have been doing that since at least 93. I am surprised that is the first time you have heard them. Good luck next week
  15. It is a common single wing pass.
  16. The problem with kicking fieldgoals all the time is coverage. Your DL cannot get into coverage as well as they can from a punt formation. A number of teams rugby kick. Someone in the last few years during a state title game was using it. If the kicker can run it can be dangerous. Quick kick can be a very sound choice on 3rd down. If you are backed up where you could be punting from your own EZ it might be a good idea.
  17. Saban messed up by going to the NFL. Since he left it opened the door for Meyer to get a good foot hole in the SEC. Saban doesn't leave LSU and he gets another title. Carroll I have no clue why he is slipping. Meyer's career is going to be fun to watch.
  18. Remember the system for selecting the national champion was different for much of Osborne's career. The BCS system came in place around 93. From 94-97 he won 3 national titles. If he had coached his entire career under the current setup his numbers would be different. Osborne was ahead of his time offensively in ways many do not realize. Meyer is a good coach no question. One of the best coaches in recent history and when it is said one of the best to maybe coach. Saying he is the best coach in the past 20 years is a little much. It also depends on your POV on that statement. Does that mean someone you coached during the past 20 years taking into account their entire career or just the portion of their coaching career that takes place over the past 20 years.
  19. I hope UofL makes this happen. It would be great to have Leach in state again. He will have them playing well year one no question.
  20. The best coach over the last 20 years is a little much. One of the best yes. Tom Osborne was one heck of a coach and he was still coaching 20 years ago. I would not be surprised either way (stay or go). It would be interesting to see him at ND. Overall I think Feb or so is going to be interesting. I do not think he will take a job (announce it) some where else until after the bowl game.
  21. I am always looking to get game film of current and older games. I can see where maybe a team would get a little up tight about recent film. But honestly how many of us would like to have tape of some of the great Highlands teams, Couch, Alexander, Brohm (any of them), or just classic games. It is a shame nothing has been done to help save the sports history film wise in the state. I would love to have games of when I played and just of things like I mentioned.
  22. Oldham Co has 4 MS (North, East, South and Oldham) and only 3 HS (North, South and Oldham) so there is a split some where.
  23. How is the center not covered up? He would have the correct number but he still has to be on the end of the LOS. HS requires you to both have the correct number and alignment to be eligible for a forward pass. If it is a backward pass then none of it matters.
  24. Not Shelby Co. Not while Becherer was there as the HC. If it was 15 years ago so so the only year that might have matched your description is 91. 92-94 the score was nowhere near that. The different rules have already been stated on why the play would be illegal. Redman has and does teach/do things that are illegal. Now there are plenty of coaches throughout the state that do teach illegal things so he is not the only one. Now you can hand the ball off to an OL but he has to turn so he is completely facing the opposite goalline before you can do it. A couple of years ago AL I think throw a pseudo screen to an OT. It was a backward pass so not a true screen pass. I forgot who in this thread said they ran a screen to their C but I would like to know how that worked due to the rules. I do not see how that is legal unless it is a backward pass.
