  1. Why? Halperin and Heilman are both reputable journalist and while Heilman may be a democratic, Halperin is the one who called the president a d*&k on Morning Joe. He is certainly not a liberal sympathizer.
  2. Now you have moved from a literal reading to your interpretation. The literal reading says nothing about belief, only that the sheep will find heaven because they have taken care of the least. My interpretation says that people who serve God by doing good, whether they "know" Jesus or not, are known by God and therefore redeemed. Thomas Merton even said that the search for God is pleasing to God. Now, we have both read the same thing, brought our own cultural biases to it and come away with different readings. Who is correct? That is why I believe that my path may be different than yours and there is no "one right way".
  3. Not sure I can answer that specifically. I am not a believer in substitution or propitiation, but I believe Jesus opens the door for us all and that the door would probably not have been open had it not been for Jesus. Do I take that scripture to mean that I must say or believe something doctrinally - no. My question to you would be what do you do with the words of Jesus in Matthew 25 when he tells the folks they are going to heaven without having any kind of belief and without even knowing they were serving him? If you take the scripture literally, and you are honest about it and don't equivocate, Jesus says you go to heaven by taking care of the least of these.
  4. I would tell them how I believe that I am going and share with them my relationship with Jesus and what that means. Then I would hope that they would share their path with me. I would not tell them they were going to hell if they didn't agree with me.
  5. I thought it was good, not because it bashed Palin, I thought it made her look a bit like a victim of circumstances. She comes off as very smart, but not well read. I had to turn away a few time because of the impending car wreck.
  6. I would suggest that there is a HUGE difference between true and literal. My son remembers conversations verbatim - it is exhausting. My wife remembers the spirit and tone of conversations. When she repeats a story it is always true, but it is rarely literal. The Bible never claims to be literal. Scripture says it was God breathed, but so am I.
  7. I have only heard him use salty language once or twice - that might have been one of them.
  8. I think the point they were making is that if you were born in a country where Christianity was not the dominant religion and you were not "evangelized" some scripture would say that you were doomed to hell.
  9. So then, you don't have to "know" Jesus and he is NOT the only way.
  10. In the limited reading that I have done, it appears that any ACTUAL VOTER FRAUD usually takes place with absentee ballots. I have also not seen that this is a problem that needs to be addressed, especially with all of the data out there that shows people are being denied their basic right, especially the elderly who may not be able to produce a birth certificate to get a photo ID. 96-Year-Old Tennessee Woman Denied Voter ID Because She Didn't Have Her Marriage License | ThinkProgress I know it is Think Progress, but I don't feel like looking up another source. Take if for what it is worth.
  11. When I read the thread title I thought you were talking about the former Mr. Klume.
  12. I am a christian and I don't believe that. Don't understand why s/he would need a link.
  13. Please say "some" christians, I can even live with "most" christians.
  14. You guys do know that he does not believe that God killed those folks, correct? He can't believe that, he doesn't believe in God. If we attack this, and we absolutely should, Pat Robertson should be attacked even more. Robertson claims to be a man of God and was shallow enough to say that all we needed to do was pray more to stop the tornados.

  16. He doubled down for three days and then apologized after companies began pulling their ad money.
  17. The problem with this notion is that we don't get to vote on David Williams. The people of his district do and they in essences are the ones holding it up. Sen. Thayer asked for a delay on the vote because to Senators had to be out of town yesterday and were not present to vote. Their vote would have given the bill the 23 necessary. Senator Williams saw an opportunity and used his position to crush something he doesn't like regardless of what the rest of the state thinks.
  18. He was hypocritical in all that he said. Had a double standard for the four men. And his job is NOT to judge a man's heart, which is what he was doing. My father-in-law, a Baptist preacher and former professor at Southern Seminary was disgusted (that may be too strong, but maybe not) by the comments and the light it shed on other Christians.
  19. Obama told me he is a Christian, but I am not sure. Santorum told me he is a Christian and I am positive he is. Gingrich I believe is a Christian Romney - Most Christian don't believe Mormons are Christians. Who are most Christians? Who is he to challenge anyone's Christianity?
  20. The Constitution is nothing if it is not a moral document.
  21. Coming from a woman I assume? You can disagree all you like, but the history is the history.
