  1. Look for the six seniors to get most of the minutes with Nikola, Atkins and Hiller getting the spot minutes. Felts and Smith are the role players who know the system the best. Felts is there to provide some defense and toughness and Smith is there to knock down shots. Norman should get the post minutes if he can just stay under control and rebound Don't underestimate this is these guys third year in the program under Coach Carr. They know how hard you have to play and they are going to make fewer mental mistakes than the young guys at this point
  2. :thumb: :thumb: Alan Mullins is a very, very good coach! Having him on the sidelines is a positive for the program.
  3. Still think rebounding is going to be a struggle throughout the year. Other than Sharp who is a good rebounder from the guard spot they are just not big and strong enough to keep other teams off of the boards.
  4. Preview in Enquirer today mentions "big three"....how did other seniors perform last night and which of the younger players look like they are ready to step up?
  5. Did they play well or is N Laurel going to struggle this year? Who played well individually for Scott?
  6. Ninth region is good at the top two but no way Ryle is better than Holy Cross. Would actually have a tough time putting Ryle anywhere in the top 6-7. Three best teams in the region all sitting in the same district.
  7. Some kids weed themselves out and coaches take care of the rest. Exactly what would the big 3 sports be at Scott HS? Or is it you just don't support the "minor" sports?
  8. Who would you expect to still be playing? Did they play last year as sophs?
  9. Draud was the best I have seen from the N Ky area and I am surprised that McKinly isn't getting more love from his N Ky brethren. He could flat fill it up from the outside and he also did it on the biggest stage leading Simon Kenton to state championship.
  10. Simon Kenton has an outstanding PG in Michael Hester and a senior class that has started together on the varsity level since freshmen year. They have been thru the wars together and should provide Mason a pretty good test.
  11. Maybe...but I will take my chances and feel pretty comfortable that Deming & Augusta will not beat any of those mid level schools in the 10th any time in the near future.
  12. :thumb: These fans need a reality check....Can someone post the Campbell County vs Deming scores from last year again?
  13. Amen! Best low post scorer I have ever seen on the high school level. Not too bad a career after high school either.
  14. Jack might not have had 5 assists in a month! Once the ball went inside it usually wasn't going back out
  15. My best guess would be that Norman would be the first big guy off of the bench and depending upon match ups could get some starts. If he could be a physical presence he could help this team on the boards. Not sure about the other two names......
  16. Not sure about this particular scrimmage but a lot of the time the scrimmage will be frosh, JV & then varsity if only two schools are involved.
  17. I think Sharp is way underrated offensively, gets to the rim and can shoot. I don't know if I would put him in the top tier of players locally (9th & 10th region) but he is in the next group.
  18. :thumb: Gotta agree on this one...Smith was as good a shooter as I saw on the JV level last year but let's see if he can transfer that to the varsity level before we start comparing him to kids who have already proven it on the varsity level. Shots are a little harder to come by and the close outs get there a little quicker. For Scott's sake I hope he fills it up from the outside because if he can't those driving lanes for Sharp and Quigley get a little tighter. If Miller and Smith can score from the outside consistently Sharp and Quigley can get to the rim and that could make Scott a tough out come tourney time.
  19. My concern with Scott is rebounding and depth. I think they will have a tough time defending inside. They are really going to have to shoot the ball well to stay in games. Carr's teams will play hard and they should be fun to watch if you like watching basketball with a "let it fly" offensive philosophy.
  20. I have picked Scott to be in the 6-7 range in a couple of threads on here but top 5?? Sharp is a quality guard and Quigley has been very good at times. Miller has had some good moments as a key reserve. Who rebounds, who defends and who else scores? Pretty big jump to go into the top five based on those three players.
  21. Hopefully Mike gets everything checked out quickly and the news is good from the ortho.... However, if he is out 6-8 weeks who runs the point for the Pioneers? Mike makes that team go....they get a lot of open looks because of opponents respect for Hester.
  22. Thought the same thing....mandated thru Super that basketball needs home and home every year to keep "rivalry's" alive even after redistricting took everyone out of the same region.
  23. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: And it wasn't pretty...wasn't even quick enough to hold him!
  24. Have not seen them play that I am aware of but I have seen the Mason County and Campbell Co 8th grade groups on the AAU circuit so I am pretty confident in my statement that they are not the best 8th graders in the 10th region. AAU is not an end all but if you are telling me that there are two 8th grade post players who are varsity ready for any team in the 10th region and they have never suited up in an AAU tourney? Quality post players at the 13 & 14 year old age group are like gold to AAU coaches. If you are good you are found. Look at Rose Hill last year...suited up some of the best 8th graders in the state, nationally ranked 8th graders and they struggled to win at the varsity level. Look I'm happy the kids are getting an opportunity to play varsity basketball at a young age and hopefully they can continue to develop just don't make the statement that two 8th graders that might start for Deming or come off of the bench could play for any other varsity team in the 10th region. If they were at Mason Co, GRC or even CampCo & Scott (considered middle of the road 10th region teams) they wouldn't be playing varsity, JV and maybe not even frosh. To move up at schools that size you have to be a pretty special player.
