  1. When was the last time a non-private 1A school won the boys basketball championship?
  2. The softball Districts are a little out of whack. How can teams like Lynn Camp and Knox Central get to the region tournment when a team like Whitley can't. The 51st district is so week compared to the 50th. It doesn't seem right that one of the weak 51st teams is going to be able to win a district every year while teams in the 50th are going to have to really compete to win a district title and get to the region. The first region games with KNox and Lynn Camp were just sad. (No offense to the coaches or players for these teams, just stating what I see )
  3. I guess talking to the man face to face in his home with his wife and children present don't amount to much, next time I need to know something I'll just come here.
  4. I'll tell you some of what I know because I am not sure I should be telling people this but I don't really care for people bashing Roger. Basically he was offered this job and he turned it down, then the people in GA keep upping the pay, he turned them down at least twice and finally they said name your price, he did and they actually meet it. He thought about turning that down too, but his wife and him finally came to the conclusion they were basically trying to convince themselves to be fools. They are from Georgia orginally and they had planned on returning there one day to begin with. Gentry has only been in Williamsburg for about 5 years anyway. Trust me he did not take this lightly but in the end he had to do what was best for his family in the long run... and when he told the kids he was staying, at that time he had all intentions of staying but things changed. At least he left them soon enough to get a new coach in there. There is some more to it, but I am going to leave it at that. Roger is a pretty good guy and he had no intentions of hurting anyone.
  5. Gentry did indeed put a for sale sign in his yard at 6:08 on May 16th. I know this for a fact. I don't know this part for sure but I was told that he could not officially say anything until after the election. I've known Murdock for years and there is more to this than some of you know. Most of you would have done what he had to do if you were in the same spot.
  6. does Cumberland college and Wburg pitch the same distance at Briar Creek?
  7. The burg should be improved this season. I myself am wondering if the campers will be down this year.
  8. I just don't understand why so many people are for this kind of thing in football, but not for it in Basketball where one individual player can make so much more a differnece.
  9. must be tough to offer so many sports and actually have enough students to play them.
  10. that kid can play ball, I have heard rumors he may be moving from center to fullback on offense.
  11. Fact 1 is an opinion. All 1A schools have a shot at having a good program when they have a few good athletes come through but to consistently (forgive my spelling) being able to compete with bigger schools year after year who can replace star players every year is not going to happen. Sure Pineville has had a great season but they have been gifted with talented basketball players the past few years who have dedicated themselves to only basketball (The football program has been down of late). Lynn Camp has had a very good year but I expect them to struggle in basketball once they lose some of there multi-sport players. It also helped that in their district they don't have to play South Laurel. I may be wrong but I think we will see over the course of the next 5 years that my predictions will hold up. Also Football is a team sport more so than basketball, a super QB on a football team won't win you alot of games but a super guard or center share can, it's just the nature of the beast. I am not saying basketball is not a team sport because it is, I am just saying that football is more team oriented. Fact 2 is indeed a fact, both Lynn Camp and Pineville have enjoyed good seasons but neither is going to the sweet 16. Fact 3 is an opinion again but one that I will agree with. Seems to me having 4 state Championships for basketball would work just like it does in football. I have also noticed serveral people on the boards who are for the realignment of basketball are the same ones who want private schools in football to have their own championship for the very same reasons I think small schools should be seperate from 4a schools. Good discussion we have here.
  12. Actually I was talking about all 1a schools and Williamsburg was my example, perhaps I wasn't clear enough and I am sorry you are feeling ill. and if I am correct Williamsburg is a 1a school playing in a 1a football district where they should be doing better.
  13. Although I don't agree with what Coach Haynes did I can understand it. Would you want to be beat that way once in a season or 3 times? Ask yourself how would your child feel about getting beat like that 3 times in a season. Most 1A schools (perhaps some private schools, but that is an entirely differnet topic), are not going to be able to compete with 4A schools, sure every once a while a school like Williamsburg will have a good season and might luck out and beat a South Laurel for their one bright moment in what will surely be years of long seasons playing in their district. Williamsburg has somewhere around 200 boys to choose from to play basketball in grades 9-12 while South Laurel and 4a schools have that in one grade a lot of times. Then you have to take into consideration that many of those boys are dedicated to another sports program and choose not to play basketball. 1A just can't compete with those numbers, sure some years they may have an up year and they have some players to put on the floor but most years they will have players starting that would not even be on the team that 4a schools have. There is good and bad with small schools and IMHO Basketball should really be treated like football and broken down into divisions, but hey I could be wrong.
  14. Williamsburg looks to be pretty good this year.
