Yes, they get half. That goes into the general fund, that is used for all sports. If they did not do this there would be zero money for any sport but football. The board gives zero money to the athletic dept outside of salaries.

The buildings are not paid for completely once built. Much like the house you or someone has built. The problem in Boone is that they are having to build a new school almost every three years or so to keep up with growth. Plus they have put additions on to all the existing high schools and middle schools in the last 5 years. So they are constantly having to budget for ever increasing costs to build new and update buildings. Kind of like once you are about to pay your house off, you by another and still keep the old. So now you still have your mortgage on the new, in addition, to the maintenance and up keep on the old. But you cannot rent the old to offset the costs. I hope I am explaining it right.

My direct comment was about how much money each school district has to spend per pupil and the discrepancies that Boone experiences. The $3000 part was that you get that much more than Boone County Schools. Here are the exact numbers for per pupil spending due to the SEEK formula for Jefferson and Boone. Jefferson County $11,154 Boone County $7,879 The costs of utilities is much more than the location of where the coal comes from. The Ohio River plays a major part because of the cheaper transportation costs also, KY utilities are regulated. But it is all about to change because utilities are getting ready to stop using coal all together to fuel power plants. Duke Energy is planning to convert all coal power plants to natural gas in the next five years. Like you I am far from "liberal" and I also believe that their is a moral obligation to equally fund education for our kids. This will only benefit everyone.

The higher property taxes you pay towards school the lower the money you receive from the state.

Not sure what that has to do with anything posted. But it must be nice for your school district to be able to have a per pupil funding of about $3000 more per pupil than Boone County Schools. How much is your football budget? How pays for your transportation? Since you are 6a, I will tell you what Ryle and Boone's is, budget ZERO!! Football team has to pay their own transportation out of their gate, that is after 50% goes to the athletic dept off the top. It's late I will start a thread on this topic tomorrow.

What many do not realize is that the "official" temp given by the news and weather station is taken in the shade. When calculating the Heat Index for the event/practice it is to be done on-site, i.e. on the field. If part of the field is in the shade, the reading must be done in the "sunny" part.

I watched the bigs for LA do more than hold their own and at times dominate only to watch half way through the fourth qtr Kobe try to take over.
