  1. IN OUR REGION? I don't think some people in the BLACK and GOLD would agree with you. He may be good, he may be the best, but I don't know if he is even the best inthe district, let alone the region. Shawn Grimm from JC averaged over 20 yds per carry against LC. It's hard to pull away from that.
  2. Has anyone got any updates on the injured player who left in the ambulance? there was a post on another site he was un able to move from the neck down. What is his name?
  3. If anybody thinks your crazy, I'm more crazy, because I believe J.K. has the perfect body to be big time. I haven't seen him behind center enough to know what his limits are but he has the athletic 6'4 frame that most kids dream of having. The other kid who has that kind of body is Blake Johnson. JC is loaded with good young talent, too many to name. If you work hard anything is possible but as you can see from last year in Ron Blume you need to have a D-1 body to go along with D-1 skills .
  4. I would like to see JC play Russell, Ironton, and Belfry. All are quality football schools and win or loose would help develop our program.
  5. Are you talking about highschool or tee-ball?
  6. How many innings did Shepard pitch. Isn't he thirteen years old.
  7. I do not know Daniel well but I have seen him play enough to have an opinion that he is an outstanding athlete and a very unselfish player. I think he may have had a bad game against SV (I only listened to it on the radio), but fans of paintsville should look in another direction for their teams underachievement. Only one mans opinion.
  8. By no means did the refs have anything to do with this Eagle defeat but I do feel like they let to much go on away from the ball. I feel like we were out coached, out played, out cheered, and Paintsville even had a better band. We are a better team than we showed if that team shows up in the district tournament it will be one and out. JC has worked to hard for that to happen.
  9. I'm sorry Buck Master I didn't realize you were talking about this one particular instance. I thought it was a generalization that it should never be done. If you played in the late 80's we probably with or against each other at one time or another. I'm not saying every time it happens it's for the right reasons or even very smart. I wasn't at the game you are talking about. Pure intimidation some times isn't the smart way to go. When you say it's not part of the game to do it on purpose. I disagree.
  10. I disagree Buck Master, I don't know if Mike told his pitcher to hit the lead off man or not, but it is as much a part of the game as brush backs, double plays, peanut and cracker jacks. I'm not saying with intent to hurt or throw at someones head but sometimes it's a matter of gaining respect and protecting your teammates. When I played and runners were on if you got hit intentionally and your pitcher didn't have the guts to protect you, the pitcher had his own team to deal with. Maybe I'm old school but that's baseball to me.
  11. Keeton is no doubt a good coach but I have a problem giving him my vote for best coach in the 15th. His vote to have a blind draw in the 57th was a swing vote for district tournament pairings. That to me shows a lack of confidense in his team. I can understand Mike Hall from SC and the coach from MC voting against seeding because the baseball tradition has not been on the same level as JC and P-ville. Ketton on the other hand has a rich tradition at LC,but would rather take his luck with the draw and hope to by-pass either of these two teams. On the other hand Lawson is a gamer. I played legion ball with him at pikeville for one year. He knew the game back then and was a very smart leader on our team. Shawn Hall, from what I have witnessed has a very agressive style of play. He will take chances when he thinks he needs to. Shawn inherited a very good team at JC and he handled it well for a first year coach at that school. JC will win their share of games but we are down. He is a baseball man, a young one but a good one. I feel he will be the best in the 15th for years to come.
  12. Not easy JC was only up four in the forth. Still a very good win for JC. This team has a lot of potential and could be a strong contender in the region, but it is still wide open. SC is a very dangerous team when they get hot and they showed alot of heart to stay in this game. They cause us alot of problems with our defensive style and i hope we don't have to see them again even though I feel we are a better team. The P-ville game is an emotional game and JC played 32 min. of hard basketball. This team must understand that they are the number one team in the district and everyone wants to be there and their opponents will play hard every night to knock them off. When JC learns to play 4 strong quarters every game they will be tuff. I believe we are getting better and coach Starns is doing a good job. I believe if they follow what coach Starns is trying to teach this team will be successful this year and years to come.
  13. Kids from surrounding counties are eligble to play. Cal Ripkin ages are 4-12. If your area does not have a Cal Ripkin league and your child starts in johnson county he or she would be able to stay in that league until their eligbility is up. After 12 you go to Babe Ruth. If (for example) Floyd county does not have a Babe Ruth league at the start of your childs 13yr old year he or she could play in Johnson County and remain until their eligbility is up. If (for example) Floyd county starts a Babe Ruth league your child MAY have to play there to be all-star eligble. This is my understaning to make sure you will have to contact Jason Hurt, Johnson County league president.
  14. Green Nation, I have seen the little league program at Owensboro Southern, and they are where we want to be in this county. It makes no difference weather it is little league or cal ripkin it's still youth baseball. Paintsville Little League has been the primary feeder for Johnson Central and Paintsville for the last fifty years. There is something wrong with the fact that JC has only three senior baseball players this year. Paintsville Little League is one of the better Little League programs in the state, but it is deffinately on the decline. I thank you for your kind words about the program but Johnson County school systems have made a desision to start a new program. From what I hear the the Owensboro program have outstanding facilities, funding, and I can say from my observation at the state tournament in ashland, parental support. Facilities and funding are major problems with the existing Little League program, and it's a shame because there are alot of hard workers in that program. Funding will not be an issue in the new league and good people will be involved. That, in my oppinion is what makes a start to a good program, not the name Little League or Cal Ripken. I would like to thank the people from Paintsville Little League for my experiances there. I'm also thankful for the leaders from Johnson county schools for recognizing that our baseball program is on the decline and trying to do something about it.
  15. Both are still juniors. I think Johnson may have the body to play at the next level. I don't know what his speed is but he looks pretty fast for a big guy. Tackett will knock your head off,has good speed, and has athletic blood in him. His grandpa played baskettball at UK. his uncle played at Alice Lloyd and could get a full hand above the square.
  16. Blake Johnson #40 and Michael Tackett #45 both junior linebackers from JCHS. Both are good next year should be very good.
  17. Mason also had a very hard nosed LB I had heard nothing about. Somebody from Mason should toot his horn he played on the right side of the defense. Any body got a name?
  18. I think Johnson (the big fullback) is under-rated on both sides of the ball.
  19. I think more pure hitters would be developed if parents would be more involved i.e...take away the vidieo games and introduce them to a pile of gravels and a broom stick.
  20. If these new metal alloy bats are so much better where is all the power? Back in the day, in the 15th regional tournament every team had three or four guys who could go yard. I have been to the last two tournaments and have only seen one or two players who had a CHANCE of going long. In our area I have seen no true power hitters.
