  1. J.D. Martinez capped off a storybook first season in Boston by winning an unprecedented 2 Silver Slugger Awards in the same season. He won the award in the outfield AND at DH. The award is voted on by managers and coaches who are not allowed to vote for their own players.

His teammate Mookie Betts picked up his second career Silver Slugger Award in what sid be an MVP season.

  2. In college football is their a rule if a team declares a player out before the game, that they can't change that during the game? Meaning even though Notre Dame says he isn't going to play this game. Can they dress him still, and play him in case of an emergency?

Meaning if he is splitting reps in practice this week. I wouldn't be surprised if they still dress him, and if the game is a struggle and in doubt in the second half. I wouldn't be surprised to see him suck it up and come in and play.

No. Any eligible player can play.

  3. For the sake of conversation, Big Bob says the Reds will "get the pitching." What pitchers do you think they're targeting?

I saw one write up stating that they are interested in Patrick Corbin and Dallas Keuchel, but being interested and signing are two different things.

I just hope it's not something like signing Harvey back after reports of kicking the tires on a Corbin type guy, then claiming you tried...

    Thoughts?

I'd say the latter is more likely. Corbin is reportedly the main target of the Yankees. Since they were under the luxury tax threshold last season I look for them to soar right past it this year. I don't think Cincinnati wins a bidding war for Corbin. Maybe Happ?

  4. All three of these were/are really good.

I liked the Hslloween Unmasked podcast. I didn't realize they had made an arrest in the Jessica Chambers murder. I'll check that one out. I've been listening to Kill By Kill. It is a humorous podcast that goes through scary movies and talks about the characters and how they meet their demise. It's mostly done the Friday the 13th series so far.

  5. I went and watched it Monday night. It was entertaining. A few too many story lines going at one time. It felt like 2 movies to me. I'd give it an 8/10 right up to the point of the twist with his doctor. From there it went off of the rails a bit. I'd give the remainder of the movie 5/10. Overall about 6.5/10. Worth a watch.

  6. With all the comparisons to great teams it is ironic that the Big Red Machine isn’t brought up.

So how do they compare? A lot of talk about games won but the 75 Reds won 108. The 76 team went 7-0 in the playoffs and won 102 as well.

I think there are 2 big differences. First, the Reds went back to back. Second, the Reds had several HOFers in those teams. At this point in their careers I don't think the Red Sox have any locks. They have several that might have a shot but no locks. Now do I think this team could play with the Big Red Machine? Absolutely. I think this Red Sox offense would do plenty of damage against the Reds pitching staff. Teams didn't have 6-7 guys throwing 95 mph plus back then. Of course the Reds would try to put the back in play much more than current teams so it would pt pressure on the Sox defense. It would be an interesting matchup for sure.

  7. BJ. Justin was a trade wasn’t he? I thought he came over when they sent Prado to the Diamondbacks. To me the BJ Upton signing was one of the worst things to happen to the Braves in the last 15 years. They so seldom open up the pocketbook and they did on that one. I don’t think they’ve had a more collosal bust.

Nick Esasky is on line 1 to refute that. And aren't they still paying Bruce Sutter? I think they still owe him around $11 million.

  8. Congrats to all of our BGP / Red Sox fans. Boston was the best team in baseball from day one till' now, WS. This seasons Red Sox was one of the best teams ever in MLB, imo. '75/76 Reds (same yr./ '75 Red Sox for that matter). '97 Yankees, '27 (I believe) Yankees (Ruth, Gehrig, etc.) along with others I can't think of now.

Go crazy @AverageJoesGym :thumb: along w / other BoSox fans … go crazy.

Thanks Rambler. This was a special bunch.

Their 119 total wins ranks 2nd all- time for a championship team behind only the 1998 Yankees.
