Same roster? No player changes at all?
They obviously added Martinez but their entire offense approach changed. You'd have to follow them to really see the difference in how they carried themselves and the style that they played. He used his bench and bullpen much better than Farrell. It was really on display in the 2 playoff series so far. He managed circles around Boone in the ALDS.

I think it matters a heck of a lot more in the playoffs.
Where he managed circles around Boone. But it was a totally different vibe around the team all season and a lot different approach offensively.

Does anyone think a manager makes that much of a difference? I would say it is 90% about the talent on your roster. Name who you think is the best manager in baseball right now. The Reds would have lost 90+ games this year if that guy was the manager. At best, a great manager is worth a game a month.
Just from watching/following the Red Sox day in, day out Cora made a huge difference. He took a 2 time division champ and took them to a whole different level.

No better than what we had, maybe worse. No experience.
Alex Cora had even less...

Southwestern looked like they need to work on their conditioning. They had someone cramping up every play in the second half. The string of blowouts that they've played recently did them no favors in that regard.
-
Just not a compelling series, especially for the casual fan.
Besides Yelich, name two guys on the Brewers.
Ryan Braun, Travis Shaw, Lorenzo Cain...
-
Southwestern runs the most simple, predictable, basic offense I've seen in awhile. That's fine when you're way better physically than your opponent. It wasn't tonight.

Southeestern's uniforms are awful. You can't read the numbers at all. Is their only offensive play a direct snap and run to daylight?

Something that hasn't really been discussed: The Red Sox outfield defense is ridiculous.

Congrats @AverageJoesGym
Thanks. Whoever comes out of the NL will be a load but it feels good to be back in the World Series.

Real nice catch by Betts just now. Not that that means anything.
Almost identical to last night.... without the interference.

:idunno:
If you were watching the game tonight you saw what happens on that play if Mookie is not interfered with. Catch. Out. See y'all in the World Series.
-
Maybe so. I don’t know what else to say other then I don’t explicitly see anything hit the glove until after it’s closed. Then I have no idea what you are looking at. Why would he close his glove before the ball is in it? He's looking at the ball so he knows where it is. To believe he just closed his glove on his own makes no sense.
And Mookie himself said that he felt something push against his glove as he reached up for the ball. They can't go back and change it now so he has no reason to lie.
In the end it doesn't matter. If the contact was made in the field of play it was interference. And there was definitely contact as Mookie went foot the ball. Where it occurred can certainly be debated but the contact as he goes for the ball is indisputable.
-
I know a guy named Addison Russell
That would be a good trade for both ballclubs. Both of those players need a fresh start and could thrive in the right environment.
-
The contact caused the glove to close. Mookie had a bead on that ball. The only question is where he was when they made contact. I don't think there's anything I can see on replay that would cause me to overturn what was called on the field. If it had been called a homer it should have remained a homer. Country Joe West, however, loves to interject himself into big situations. He called an out and I don't think you can find enough to overturn it. Just like the previous night when the Red Sox lost a double on Kemp's catch. Later replays show that it grazed the wall but the ones that they were looking at after it happened were not definitive. The call was upheld as it should have been. I guess that makes it even on replays lol.
-
That’s chump chang for them. They can non-tender him and be out nothing and get that roster spot.
True. But he does have some value still. I just don't think it will take top prospectsto get him.
-
Mookie catches that ball if not for the fan. Nothing I've seen shows anything that would make me change the call on the field. Now if I'd have been the umpire I'd have called homerun and then let it be challenged. When it comes to a boundary play it would have to be obvious before I'd call interference. And I'm the biggest Red Sox fan on here.
