I'm surprised the Birds' big TV debut didn't win them a little rankings love.

But not so as you could hear it.

The cool thing about the new position for the scoreboard is that I can see it perfectly now. Where it was, I had to look around the telephone pole or through a hundred people standing next to me. Now it's just a turn of the head away. In fact, I watched some of the short yardage plays at the far end of the field that way. Wish they could do more replays though. Maybe that will happen later on. And as for my being kind of chippy lately, maybe it's partly because I'm an worn down, almost 50-yr-old college student trying to get settled into a new semester -- and not getting much help from a professor who has yet to show up for our online class, two weeks into the calendar. And that's only the half of it. :ohbrother: Or maybe it's just that time of the month. :down:

Nah, I know how to handle a clutch situation.

Actually, I'd just be happy to be mentioned in the Super 25. Anyway, in my mind, Vi Gerding will always be the Birds #1 fan. Now, she's up there rooting on her kids as our very own Blue Angel. :thumb:

We were on the shady side of the field, but as the day wore on, the sun sneaked in over the middle part of the school and started baking us too.

Wow! I hope you're just kidding. I would hate to think you actually believe such a thing. But I think I know you better than that. :thumb: As I'm sure you know, paranoia would only be indicated when there is no reason to believe something will occur. But since the reactions I described are as much a tradition of the HHS Haters Club as winning is for the team, paranoia "ain't on the table."

I didn't take it that way at all. My mad was directed more at the paper, and that was only because I figured it would set off a firestorm of Bird bashing. To my surprise, almost all of the reaction here has been positive.

They had the years all messed up.

Technically, 21 of them were not state champion football players -- not for this team anyway.

In watching the ESPNU replay, these were some of my favorite comments of the day: ESPNU Announcer (with the Birds up 33-10): "Most of the talented athletes are on University Christian." Coach Mueller (In a sideline session with his offense): "If this guy's coming, he is slow. Slow...slow...slow! They're pooped! That's what they're doin' to us...and they're pooped!" ESPNU Announcer (Moments after Dale says "pooped" [x2] on national television): "I like 'gassed,' but 'pooped' might've gotten the point across better."

Yes, on behalf of everyone on the far sideline, I want to extend a great big BLESS YOUR LITTLE HEART to whoever fixed the speaker system so that it could be clearly heard (most of the time) throughout the stadium! It was really nice to be able to participate more fully with the game and know who was pulling off a spectacular play at any given moment. Thank you! :thumb:

I'm glad somebody gets where I was coming from.

That's just it. It wasn't that I was reading something into it. It was that I could see others (like the haters) reading A LOT into it.

Highlands was the better team: more depth, better conditioning, superior game plan and better athletic talent level overall when compared across the full rosters. That was the story. Comparing this team to NCC or most other local teams is just pointless.

Apples and Oranges. Well, more like apples and giant pumpkins.
