To my knowledge Fern Creek has been a Traditional school for some time, but I don't know how long exactly. But they're for sure a Traditional magnet.

But I agree that the debate starts with who belongs with the other north eastern schools (and it's clearly Trinity). Then it's easy to divide the remaining eight schools. Fern Creek should obviously be playing Seneca and Southern. Manual, Butler and X belong in a district. You could place Male with Manual, X and Butler, but it's tough to justify with PRP in the west needing dancing partners and clearly not belonging with Seneca. Besides, Male makes a neat little district for the south east.

Further, your reasoning fails to consider other districts, such as:

What school has more in common with Ballard, Eastern and Oldham County? Anyone with knowledge of Louisville will tell you that it's Trinity.

Male has more in common with Fern Creek than any other school, considering they're both Traditional magnets.

That's a pretty unreasonable argument. (I just wanted to make a joke about your name.)

Can you point out to me where Tackett mentions anything about Trinity being east of Fern Creek? I can't find it.

Fern Creek is 1 mile east of Trinity. If you adjusted for magnetic north they might even line up north-south. It's just not a compelling argument when you look at the map, especially when there are good reasons why Fern Creek should be with Southern, Seneca and Male while Trinity should be with Eastern and Ballard.

But that's not how Tackett says they drew the districts.

Under the proposed format, Ballard and X could meet for a final. Unless you drop East-West as the format, you can't get around the fact that two Louisville schools could sometimes play for the title. Do you want to return to the explicit Louisville vs the State format?

The problem with that reasoning is that it is generally viewed that from 04-09, X had a talent advantage, yet failed to dominate in the title count.

And for the record, I hope everyone notices that I am not championing a proposal where Manual is in a district without any of the other three.

Actually, this one is better than the one you proposed first, but still less efficient that the districts that I propose.

No, the INEFFICIENCY is what I'm illustrating. The raw distances are not my concern, that would be comically petty to argue over a few miles difference. It's that a less efficient system was created deliberately to pair X and T.

I don't think that's the best alignment, but it's still better than the current proposal.

I'm just commenting that the KHSAA shouldn't be in the business of trying to align the brackets to keep one of them out. But I certainly won't say that they can't be in that business, as they obviously currently are.

How many districts to a region? 2. How many districts in Jefferson County? 3.

And if I were going to venture a question of motive, it's that the KHSAA, like most of the state, doesn't really care for Louisville as a whole that much. That neatly combines theory A with theory B, and anyone from inside the Jefferson County line would nod their head. But we don't need to get into all that. Tackett himself said that they placed Oldham County with the closest schools, but don't look behind the curtain at Trinity, they're too different from Oldham County. Tackett's own statements show that there was more than geography considered. That, to me, is the crux of what makes these districts objectionable.

That's not what Tackett claims they did, however. Tackett claims they looked at which schools were closest to Oldham County, with the exception of Trinity, and leaves that exception to the nebulous claim that Oldham County had more "in common" with Fern Creek or Seneca. Is Tackett lying?

Why should the KHSAA consider whether X and T make the finals at all? They clearly did when they drew up these districts.
