  1. I believe it is an assistant for Burnett who is from KY. Not Burnett, himself.
  2. I think Scenters is the great fit for this job. I can't really speak of any other candidate, but Mark would be wonderful. He is ready to lead a program.
  3. Hopefully, GC can improve and stay injury free this season and get the 3 seed in for the tourney. Anything can happen in one game so they can have a shot to make it back to the region if they can get that 3 seed. Their hitting should come around. THe depth of the pitching staff is a big concern.
  4. I didn't say all the problems were with this middle school coach, but many are. And, I don't think they just let it continue. As I said, he only did it a couple of years. Coach Woods does teach fundamentals very well, but he shouldn't have to start at square one in high school. The bottom line is this coach at the middle school had little knowledge of coaching. The funny thing is this same person thinks he has a valid critique of other coaches and I hear it is a joke to many in GC due to the outcome of his time as a coach. And, Coach Woods doesn't make much money. There have been 4 coaching changes since 2000 for GC baseball, but Woods has stuck it out for 5 years. Doesn't look like many want that job either. But, Coach Woods is behind the 8-ball because GC doesn't have the best natural talent so he has to rely on technique. When he has to start at square one it is difficult. As you said, feeder programs are very important. This middle school coach did no favors to anyone by taking the job. He did not instill work ethic, discipline, etc. as I said. This has further hurt the GC baseball program. If Coach Woods were consulted on who the coach should be he probably would have been able to get someone in who was better like they have now. This past guy was a teacher who put in for it and got it due to being a teacher. It wasn't as a favor. It probably was a blessing for those kids to see Coach Woods take BP before a game. It likely was the only sound modeling of technique those kids saw all season.
  5. Right, and I know Danville had a discipline issue during the 06 playoffs that occured right after a team meeting. Earlier at Danville, Harp had to suspend on of his better players for multiple playoff games for a problem. Is it Harp's fault those players made some bad choices. The past GC staff had to suspend some players too and did that when it was needed. I don't think it was their fault that players made some bad choices. As a young person you take your lumps, learn and move on. How many district titles has GC ever won? A couple or three. I don't think GC has been favored to win their district in the past 10 years. They have been runner-up in 3 of the past 5 years, though. I don't understand the district comment that was made. Maybe the biggest coaching issue in the past couple years has been the schedule. GC played 8 games against region finalists or better in the last 2 years. Then, they played some regular season district champs beyond that. It was probably too difficult for as young of a team as they had. It maybe would have been better to create a schedule to build confidence in their young players. I know the talent is on the way back up with the Juniors to be, though. That would aid Coop or any other coach stepping into GC.
  6. The biggest problem for Garrard baseball is the fact that they had a middle school social studies teacher as the head coach at the middle school for a couple years. He is not doing it anymore, but he definitely has hurt the high school program from what many say. The players showed zero improvement under his watch, they did not have basic fundamentals down entering high school, and he struggled with discipline and establishing a solid work ethic. The high school program is feeling the ill-effects of his tenure now. Just shows how important the feeder system really is, especially at smaller schools. He is still there teaching, but luckily not coaching anymore.
  7. I would like to see what some of the GC players of those 9-3 seasons say about the 'not improving' comments. Many Frosh started in 06 in a 2 win season and they improved to 5 wins in 07. I wonder if they think they improved.
  8. I agree. It would be great to see Coop have a shot at it.
  9. I have also heard Cobb's name mentioned for this job. I heard that he even had interest the last time the job was open. I think unless an established head coach like Cobb is in the hunt then Mark Scenters has to be strongly considered. Does anyone know if Mark Perry from Washington has shown interest or been contacted by Southern?
  10. It looked to me like Garrard beat every team in their district this year except Somerset. They did have one bad loss to Pendleton Co. where they had 5 or 6 starters out. They lost to Frankfort, Somerset, and Lincoln who were all in regional finals. They played majority sophomores many of who started as Freshmen in the previous year. Pretty tough for anyone to win with mainly Freshman and Sophomores playing. I know Garrard had some good seasons with the same coaches in some previous years where they could be more competitive. I don't think Garrard has ever been a championship caliber program and there will be some down periods. As for Perry: Washington County would have won plenty of games this year if they didn't have so many injuries. They were a senior dominated, but lost 4 or 5 key starters for the season early. Perry took over a program that was down and built them up but just ran into some bad luck. He shouldn't be judged by that. All in all I think Perry would be the better fit for Lincoln. Clevenger and Settles would do well, also.
  11. I was under the impression that the Eagles were to be healthy for this game and going to have everyone back??? I heard the young linemen played well considering their first start was agianst a 6A school.
  12. I can honestly tell you that Casey's coach plays the kids that deserve to be playing. Society is different then it even was 15 years ago. Kids would rather go home and play on the internet, play video games, text message and call on cell phones then work hard to become good football players. Many kids don't play as freshmen and sophomores because they don't think they will play varsity so they don't think it is worth it. It is not the right attitude to have, but it is there. It is all a part of our 'microwave society.' If I can't be a varsity starter 'right now' I don't want to play. That is the attitude of many kids. The facilities at Casey are much better then they were 10 years ago. They finished their fieldhouse in 2001 or 2002. Have a new playing surface and weightroom. There have been some steps taken in that regard. I can't wait to hear what CCRebel87 has to say........
  13. Somerset fans: Did anyone try to press Cole with and keep a safety over top last season?
  14. What is the cost estimate for a synthetic field? And, about how much money did those other schools (Belfry, etc.) have to raise and how much was funded by school monies?
  15. Who do think has a sincere shot at the job? What about Robbie Lucas? He has head coaching experience. Shouldn't he be the front-runner since it is so late in the game? It would be bad for the kids to go into dead period with a question as to who the head man will be. Do you think the S-set administration would name an interim for this season and wait until next year to do a thorough search?
  16. Garrard County won yesterday at EKU.
  17. I do think that the new 6 class system will help the majority of schools in KY. It will hurt the traditional powers in terms of scheduling. Those schools will have to play other power schools from different parts of the state. This could, in effect, weaken some of the power schools to an extent. You could realistically have some power schools finish the regular season with a 5-5 record (or worse). This is why the majority of schools that are against the 6 class system are the traditional powers. However, in the long run this system will benefit the 'majority' of KY schools.
  18. Yes, Tiger. Who else has applied? Or, does it even matter if Higgins will get it anyway.
  19. Maybe his agent can get him into the mix with the Dallas Cowboys. Agents can be tough for high school administrators to deal with. I bet his agent just gets a flat fee for getting his name out for some jobs. If so, that guy is making some money.....:jump:
  20. Not sure if Higgins coached with Redman at Waggener. Do you think Higgins is a candidate at Waggener, also? Interesting.
  21. I am just saying the I 'heard' that. I am asking if it is true and if anyone knows if there is interest in Higgins? Is he their #1 choice or is someone else or is it going to be a wide-open hiring process. I am not 'in the know' at Fern Creek by any means.
  22. Had heard that the job was previously offered to Curtis Higgins. Is that true and would they wish to go after him?
  23. Will (would) one of the assistants be taking over?
