  1. Newport Central Catholic Schedule 2007 Aug. 25 SIMON KENTON (6A) Sep. 1 @ Cov Cath (5A) Sep. 7 @ Ryle (6A) Sep. 14 BELLEVUE (1A) Sep. 21 HOLY CROSS(Cov.)* (2A) BYE Oct. 5 @ Newport* (2A) Oct. 12 CONNER (6A) Oct. 19 @ Lloyd* (2A) Oct. 26 CAMPBELL COUNTY (6A) Nov. 2 @ Beechwood (1A) *district games At a glance...It starts off rough playing much bigger schools, then district play with more big schools intermixed before ending with Beechwood. Simon Kenton, a usual scrimmage, is a 6A school first week. Then they hit the road with no introduction needed State Champion CovCath and State Runner up Ryle. Home games against Bellevue and Holy Cross (Cov.) before a much needed BYE week. They resume district play traveling a long distance to Newport   . Home against 6A Conner. At district opponent and a familiar coach (Yeagle) with a not so familiar team in Lloyd. Home against 6A and much improved since the last time they met Campbell County. And finally playing at Beechwood, a game that will feel like the playoffs before the playoffs. :flame: Schneider isn't backing down again this year and I wouldn't be surprised if the Thoroughbreds don't take a couple on the chin before making another deep playoff run. :dancingpa
  2. I was told that in that Western Tourny the team they lost to was a local team called Cutter Construction who is a 17u team.
  3. Congrats.. What was your record and what teams participated in this tournament?
  4. I think atherton even played Brossart in a scrimage and lost. They were a first year JV team.
  5. any names of these players where does the lions rate in the 16u leagues Here are the rest of the players on the Erlanger lions, Mike parrot-holy cross. David Etscheid-ryle Andrew Hitchcock-st henry ryan oliver-ryle Tony Thornsburg-Sk david tomas-scott Josh Anderson-Brossart
  6. There are 5 from Beechwood, 1 from St Henry, 3 from Ryle, 2 from Scott and 1 from Brossart.
  7. Coach Myerhoff also has a very nice 16U summer ball team called the Erlanger Lions. Very solid team this year.
  8. Im interested to see who made it from BBHS and Scott also
  9. There will be a mass and aferwards a blessing of the rings ceremony for the boys football team and the girls soccer team May 18th at 7:30 AM in NCC's gym. I think the total cost was around 115 dollars for each person. Pictures coming shortly.
  10. ...still waiting to receive the rings.
  11. The bold font relates to the Capitol Campaign currently being administered at Newport Central Catholic.
  12. The decision was made that for every state championship at NCC that the teams would receive a "stadium" design ring with a stone in the middle (sunk in) and writing around that. Each specific team could change the sides to their liking, but not the top style. The rings the seniors on the team wanted cost 10-20 dollars more than the ones they received last year. The seniors wanted to bag groceries, fundraiser, out-of-pocket, or anything else they could do to raise the extra money needed. However the administation said they were unable to do this because there is a temporary ban for raising money. The seniors wanted to search for prices and different styles available at different jewelers, but the administration said that they own the copyright to "Newport Central Catholic", "Thoroughbreds", "breds logo", "final score", "2006 Class A Champions", etc. and that they would take any rings having those things placed on them. Also the base "stadium" design was the cheapest design available. They didn't want a very expensive ring, they just wanted one that was a different style then the previous years (even if it meant getting cheaper rings). The seniors changed the stone from a blue cut stone to a smooth gold stone. They choose a precut design for the sides because a new cut would cost more. They chose a different style helmet on one side and the other side says "Back to Back 2005 2006" instead of the breds logo.
  13. Also bbhs pitched a sophmore who has never pitched varsity before
  14. NCC is in AA next year too, so they should be towards the top of the list.
  15. Kelly will be the starter next year. There's not much of a choice and even if there was he will probally be starting anyway.
  16. Actually they've played 5 on grass and 7 on turf. Their grass games include Dayton, Ryle, Bellevue, Holy Cross (playoffs) and Ludlow. In those games they are 4-1 with the lone loss coming to a very good 4A Ryle team. They also have been practicing full gear four days a week (Mon-Thur) for the past several weeks on a grass field up on the hill that has been turned into a mud pit. IMO a muddy field plays into their hands as they should be able to run the ball at will. They had several long consistent drives against a very stingy Beechwood defense, and the 'Breds also bring one of the best defenses in class A. These aren't fighting words, just my opinion.
  17. I don't think anyone from NCC is overlooking anyone. This is still a team that was 1-4 and didn't have a winning record until last week. NKY have historically owned this region but don't expect NCC to be overconfident. They have been humbled several times this year and they will be ready to play Raceland on Friday night.
  18. Two things. The illegal man downfield wasn't a linemen. It was a receiver who was covered by a man farther down on the line of scrimmage. And on the 4th and 20 play where Elliot made an amazing throw, he was also 2-3 yards past the line of scrimmage. Great game by both teams. And what would the finale of this great rivalry be without some controversial calls?
  19. Pretty even game. Great Defenses. Congrats Belfry a classy win by a classy team. IMO NCC shot themselves in the foot several times which might have won them the game. Missed field goals, bad snaps, penalties, fumbles, interceptions, dropped touchdowns, poor run blocking, and they still had a chance to beat one of the best 2A teams in the state last night during the final minutes. Its hard to beat great teams when you make that many mistakes and they kept fighting and didn't give up and almost stole won on a 2 point conversion. I don't want to sound like I'm making excuses here but they did drive almost 5 hours on a bus and were playing at a loud environment at Belfry for their first game.
  20. Did Newcath totally get left out of the Post review or am I just not seeing it?If so how can a newspaper report a prep preview of nky without having the defending state champs of class A? BTW Ernst and the Enquirer did another amazing job this year. I especially like the Z in the ABC's of High School Prep football this year.
  21. My memory might be failing me because it was awhile ago, but didn't Newcath win this scrimmage last year 14-13? If I recall correctly Dixie took the classy move at the end of the third quarter and kicked an extra point instead of going for the tie. Other than that this scrimmage looks to be a great test for both teams. Both teams are the cream of the crop in their respective classes in NKY. Looks like it might turn into a dandy if the NCC team that played the third quarter Saturday shows up. However it could be a long day if they don't show up ready to play again. However I have to go with my gut and pick NCC in a low scoring game.
  22. 10 people, almost one sixth didn't include St. X or Trinity in their top 15? I don't really know how that happened, but both teams should be included in the top 15. I'd be hard pressed to find 15 teams better then them this year or any year IMO.
  23. I agree that the top 4 will have the 95% chance of winning it, but I disagree with Beechood over NCC. But I must admit I am a tiny bit bias.
  24. I definitely don't think 1,700 yards is out of the question especially if they make a deep run through the playoffs again. When you add in an experienced offense line and probally more of a run dependent offense this kid could get some big numbers. However the Harris kid is no joke and will fill Diehl's shoes nicely in the offense. He has a gun and if NCC plays the same style as they did last year, the balance between run and pass should be about even. Harris is the ying to Vicars's yang.
