  1. I would personally like to see some emphasis put on remodeling the lockeroom area. That would be the most logical step to take in upgrading the athletic complex.
  2. That looks like a job for Mountain Pride, if you ask me........
  3. Bret Hart vs. Mr Perfect------1991 Summerslam
  4. This past year's Lynn Camp team was one of the biggest Class A teams I have seen.
  5. Impressive win for the Dragons in this one.
  6. I wasn't aware of this........I'm sure that Coach Johnson is capable of handling the duties however.
  7. That is a possibility. Judging by the set up of the new school however, (which I haven't been able to view in months) I'm not so sure if it would be feasable. For their sake, I do hope that they can. However, with funding being limited, I'm not for certain they could do it. Perhaps someone could elaborate on this. I'm aware of the fact that nothing extravagant would be needed, but to ensure safety, I'm sure that some costs would exist in grading a practice area and sodding it.
  8. I'm sure that for some coaches, the job would seem a bit less attractive. However, I'm sure that coaches truly interested in the job as a career position wouldn't let this be too much of a distraction. I think the main issue here carries less impact on the future coach and more with the players. Assuming that games and practices will be at Cawood, numbers could be affected considering the time and the distance that would be required for players around Cloverlick, Benham and Lynch to get back and forth from practices and games on a daily basis.
  9. Congratulations to Coach Howard and Pendleton County. It's always nice to start off the season with some early sucess. Coach Howard and company sometimes start slow, but are always a force to be dealth with in the postseason.
  10. The other two games appear to be Scott County and Corbin
  11. I do believe I said that Clay County was the only team on Harlan's schedule that I considered a "true favorite" to beat the Dragons. I can see however, that my words may have been twisted to an extent
  12. It was supposed to imply the former. I'm still not sold on the fact that the majority of Trojan fans don't look at the Harlan game as the measuring stick for seasonal success. If beating a small class A school means more than having success on a district or regional level, then Cawood doesn't have their priorities in line. That's why I've supported the idea of playing this game later in the season. At least if they lost this game, Cawood could salvage on some success earlier in the season as a rallying point to advance a couple of rounds in the playoffs
  13. I wonder if that physical pounding in 73 was worse than the one that Harlan dealt Cawood in 72'? I think some of these posts sums up the reasons why Cawood will never get the job done when it comes to football.
  14. I'll second that.........I would like to know as well.
  15. I remember his name when he was playing in junior high. Having him in the backfield makes Cumberland dangerous this year. Offensively, Cumberland looks flat out scary. Would any of the Cumberland faithful care to make a prediction on this year's season?
  16. Like Cawoodballplayer, I'm going to make some predictions that are very very early. These could easily change by the summer, but for the interests of entertainment I'll go out on a limb and make some guesses. at Harlan Harlan has only lost once since the series reconviened in 2000. In the last 3 years, Harlan has won by a combined score of 82-13. I'm aware that things are different this season, but Cawood will have to be much better to pull out the win, especially with the game being at Joe Gilley Field. I'll go with Harlan in this one, despite losing a great senior class from last year. at Evarts Cawood should be the favorite to win this game. Evarts will be improved from last season, but I think Cawood should coast in this one. Fleming County Fleming County is far from a pushover and this game could go as far as determining which of these two teams gets a first round home playoff game. I see this game potentially going either way, and I'll go with Fleming County in a game going down to the wire. at Lee, Va. Lee County has had sucess against the Trojans in years past, but they'll have to be multi-dimensional to win this one. Strang things can happen across the border, but I think Cawood wins this game. at Breathitt County Breathitt should be rather solid this year, if I'm remembering correctly. Breathitt should win this one, but it could be much closer than people expect. Open Powell County With or without Whitaker, I don't see Powell winning this one, especially since it's played at home. at Middlesboro Middlesboro lost alot this past season, but still has the line needed to push Cawood around in the trenches. Cawood's offense could give Middlesboro's defense some problems, but I don't see them winning if the game were to turn into a shootout. Middlesboro should run away with this one late. at Estill County Estill can be dangerous at times. I see this one as a toss up again and could go either way, but I'll give the nod to the Trojans. Cumberland Cumberland should be pretty solid this year, and much more athletic than the Trojans. This being said, I think that Cawood's physical play could give Cumberland some problems. I'll pick Cawood in this one, in a win that may surprise some county spectators. Somerset If Cawood can control the game offensively in this one, it could get interesting. But, assuming that Cole is playing in this game, Somerset will have way too much firepower for the Trojans to handle. I see Cawood finishing 5-5 this season, with a chance to advance to the second round of the playoffs.
  17. Does anyone know Cawood's schedule for this upcoming season? I had heard they added Somerset to the schedule but I'm not sure.
  18. Forgive me......haha. The "would" have in my post SHOULD have been a "could" have. Not that it was highly possible, but I think the game would have been closer.
  19. I think this would benefit both teams. Hopefully, if played later in the year, both teams could have some wins notched on their belt, and despite a loss, either would still have momentum heading into the playoffs. If one of the teams were struggling, this game could keep players attentive and less likely to throw in the towel.
  20. I don't think you can help but to play this game. It has been the biggest gate of the year for both teams, and is just a classic bragging rights war. Lungbuster, you are correct in saying that Harlan stands to win more in this game than Cawood. That is a logical standpoint. I wish more fans from Cawood stood with you, but the fact of the matter is that for most fans, and many players, this game has seemed to be a "do or die" matter. Usually the winner of this game goes on to have a strong season, and the loser struggles to play .500 ball. I wish this game were played later on in the season (around week 7 or so), where both teams could have something to look foward to during the season. I think the hype for this game would be much larger, and would still provide the loser with a chance to regroup for the postseason (if it is really needed). I am too young to speak on the matter of Harlan's so called "dodging" of Cawood, but I can speak for the years where the rivalry has been renewed. When the two teams resumed play in 1997, Cawood ran away with a victory, and many knew Harlan had little chance of winning. The same holds true the following year, when Cawood thrashed Harlan on their home field. When the two teams didn't play in 1999, I don't think any could argue that Harlan had by and far the better squad. Since the 2000 season, Harlan has won all the games, with the exception of the 2003 season. I can only think of 2 years (2004 and MAYBE this past season) where Harlan would have been considered the heavy favorite. In short, I can't say that since the rivalry has resumed that Harlan would have dodged Cawood, playing only when they thought victory was eminent. I have enjoyed being a part of this rivalry, and it is an enjoyable experience for fans, players and coaches alike. As big as this game is locally, however, I think sometimes these schools put too much into it, and lose steam as the season moves on.
  21. Seems like they stayed one dimensional and did what they wanted to. I do think you need balance to advance completely through the playoffs, but without losing that absolute stud in the Cov Cath game, I think Johnson Central would have won the championship being one dimensional.
  22. I'm not really sure. I do know that he had moved from the Louisville area to Harlan, so it wasn't exactly like he was transferring within a district or county. I was certain that a change of adress in Luttrell's manner would have been an easy fix eligibility wise, but I'm with you, I never understood that one. I just hate the fact he wasn't able to participate this year, losing a precious year of good times.
  23. I spoke with him during the fall and came away impressed. He is a well-grounded young man, very intense, yet very encouraging and positive. Hopefully this year things are worked out in the transfer ordeal and he is able to participate. I wish him nothing but the best.
  24. HDE, my reasoning for placing Lynn Camp above the likes of Cumberland and Hazard was for the Roscoph (sp?) kid alone. If he is returning, then I think he alone is that much of a difference. That, with Lynn Camp's physical nature, in my opninion puts them ahead of the other two. Though they didn't put many points on the board against Harlan last year, their offense physically took it to Harlan. I can see Hazard as being very good, or very average, depending on their ability to stop the run in this new district. Cumberland will be very dangerous, and could be the best of the three, if they can stay focused and play disciplined football
  25. With this schedule, I can see Harlan winning 7 games, or as few as 3-4. The offseason will be crucial for Harlan, which obviously has alot of shoes to fill. The only team I see as a true favorite is Clay County, and maybe Lynn Camp. The games with Cawood, Evarts, Hazard, Cumberland and Perry Central could go either way.
