  1. If Evarts and/or Cumberland were forced to commute to Cawood before the new school opening, it would be a complete riot.
  2. Thanks for the clarification, I would have been badly offbase otherwise. Do you see Gilliam moving from fullback to tailback in Cumberland's Wing-T or is there anyone else that can fill Washington's shoes? I think if Cumberland finds a quality running back, and can leave Gilliam at the fullback position, that they would be much more dangerous offensively this coming season.
  3. As for the Gilliam kid last year, am I correct in saying he didn't make the District 7 or SEKC first team last season? He, in my opinion, was Cumberland's most dangerous threat last season, and ended the season as maybe the most underapreciated player in southeastern KY.
  4. Thanks, HDE. So I'm guessing the drought for the county schools has been 14 years then. I'm sure that Harlan advanced to the region semi's in 1996.
  5. I also wish that the "Kings of the County" thing wouldn't carry as much of importance as it does for some around the county. Since all county teams began playing each other in 2002, the combined county playoff record has been 2-14, with Harlan holding both victories. Though rivalry games are a special event within comminuties, I think that if as much support had been given to these teams through every game in the regular season, that some of these numbers could have been altered.
  6. Everything is open to individual interpretation, DRAGON PAPPY. There is nothing wrong with your insight.
  7. Harlan did make it to the region finals in 99. The other years I'm unsure of. As for the other teams in the county, I'm thinking it's been more than 10 years since any team advanced out of the first round. With the new playoff format, however, I do see Cumberland as one the county favorite to break that streak this year.
  8. In some cases, it's a combo coverage, but 90 percent of the time, it really is a man coverage, just disguised somewhat
  9. Not at all. Where Cawood has played for the last decade a simple 3 Deep coverage, the secondary's role has been more of a "last result" buffer between the offense and the endzone. Coach Perry's system is a 7 man front system, but in facing dominant running schemes, more men are often needed at the line of scrimmage. The adjustment to this is sometimes complicated, and takes a little while for adjustment.
  10. You'll probobly see around 70 percent of triple option offensively. Defensively, Cawood will need alot of work in the secondary to play this style of defense; in Coach Perry's defense they will have a tons of more responsibility placed on them, from blitzing to playing alot more man coverage.
  11. In hiring a new coach right after the season, and without the new school being complete, the new coach would sure have to be sound from an organizational aspect, since all three teams would still be training in their respective schools. Exactly how would a person get all of these kids together to promote some unity before the summer practices start? I just thought of that for some reason, but it is definately an issue that will have to be adressed by the new football coach
  12. Or maybe more of like the "Vanderbilts of the South"
  13. If I'm not mistaken, wasn't this Cumberland's first time to make the playoffs in about 3 or 4 years? They may have beaten Harlan, but that hasn't exactly made them a football powerhouse. They may have had sucess within the county, but they haven't by any means throughout the district. They are usually one of the district's most talented teams. I think a step up in their out of district schedule will pay dividends for them.
  14. Haha.......well, you know, they could have just given me "extra service pay." BTW.....I'll third the notion on Jim Roark.
  15. Yeah, I did, but my fax machine was broken and it took 4 days to get someone over to work on it, so I couldn't send a resume to the school.
  16. http://www.khsaa.org/handbook/bylaws/bylaw27.pdf I'm not arguing that hiring someone out of the school is against the law. If you look at Section 2 b) i) and take it's meaning verbatum, the recommendation(s) by the superintendent are offered to the principal, just as youve said. Then by "consulting with the School Based Council" prior to the final selection, the principal makes his decision, which is finalized by the superintendent. I guess most of it's a matter of interpretation, but that's my literal perception of the rule
  17. And Mountain..........with your ideas, I'm sure it could be a match ranking up there with the "bloodletters" Dusty Rhodes and the Nature Boy used to have back in the day
  18. For the sake of my personel well-being, I would hope that that Blade did stay in retirement. That is way too much for the likes of a common man to handle
  19. I'm with you inasmuch as thinking that Coach Perry would have been the coach in one form or another. It's obvious by now the way I feel. I'm just questioning standard procedure. Cawood is fortunate to have Eric, and fans can expect to see a much improved team (funadamentaly and physically) starting this fall.
  20. The next time I see whyme, I'm going to call Waggle_12 and we all 3 can have a big group hug.
  21. Cawoodballplayer, since you seem to have the inside track I'm looking for on this, maybe you could answer something for me. Though the waiver was issued, personel from within the school system should still have been given the first chance to apply for, and take the job. Issuing a waiver for this "emergency" makes little sense if the job was sought after by any of the current employees from within the school system. What I am asking is this.......was anyone currently employed by Cawood High School or its feeder systems that not only expressed interest in the position, but pursued the postion for themselves? If you can find an answer to that sometime, things would begin to show face for yours truly.
  22. Bylaw 27, Section 2 (b) says it does. I'm arguing fact here
  23. Yes, I'm aware that the superintendent cannot place a vote. I was defending the schoolboard's position to increase the taxes in my comments. The issue of urging to me carries little weight in regards to concrete actions or votes, so I won't argue that.
  24. While he may not have voted for these contracts, he really didn't vote against them did he? And with the student to teacher ratio, do you mean teacher-student ratio? Because if the student/teacher ratio was voted to be lower, would that not suggest the hiring of more educators? Wouldn't raising taxes help the school system? I have forgotten, maybe someone can refresh my memory: how much exactly were the actual numbers on the tax increase? Whyme, maybe you can clarify that for me. As to your post, I think I know what you meant, but misunderstood what you said.
