  1. What will Danville look like over the next few years???

They will be good, the quaterback is a sophmore and alot of good young talent coming up. I think they just ran into a good agressive defense with Somerset and they just didn't respond well. They definately need to work on offensive play execution. The O-line has to play better and the quaterback needs to really speed up his play execution. I noticed in the prior three games it was taking too long for plays to be executed, and Somerset made them pay. Every one in Admiral land don't get nervous yet, the ADS will be fine, the Somerset game was a good experience and help them work on thier weaknesses.:thumb:

  2. Somerset has a good team but Danville turnovers made this game easy for them. Somerset has a better team at this point, but hopefully Danville will learn from this game. I wasn't able to go to the game due to working. When you turn the ball over so much it just kills the opportunity to build any momentum. The Danville defense still played well, because with turnovers and field position the offense kept giving Somerset, the score could have been 60-13.

  3. Well Hats off to Somerset, for the most part I thought Danville's defense played well, its hard to hold a good offense out of the endzone when you fumble 4 or 5 times and then can't move the ball when you can hold on to it. Somersets defense just dominated Danville's offensive line. It sounds like Somerset took the same approach Rockcastle Co. did two weeks ago by crowding the line of scrimmage and was also able to shut down Danville's passing game. I know Coach Harp is trying to develope some guys on the O-line, but I think it would have been better tonight to let your best lineman play, even if they had to go both ways. The best thing Danville can do with this game is flush and get ready for next week against South Western.:eyeonyou::irked::p:confused::popcorn::banana::thumb::D:taz::madman::cool:

  4. Here are the starters listed in the last year's state final:

    http://www.khsaa.org/football/2009/3aflipcardweb.pdf

Going by this the Jumpers lost 7 on Offense (All 5 interior linemen, FB, HB).

Somerset lost 5 on Defense (Middle Guard, 3 LB's, Safety).

That averages out to pretty much half the starters on both sides of the ball I think. :thumb:

Hatz, I was thinking you were right with your initial statement. I just didn't have time to research the facts. Thanks for the information, maybe now they will believe you. I hope the jumpers do come to Admiral Stadium under estimating the Ads. That will probably make my Friday night a happy and enjoyable one.:D
  5. I too believe this will be a close game but I have to go with the Briarjumpers. I am not exactly drinking the Danville Kool-aid just yet. Last time I saw them perform, they took a schlacking by Green County 60-22 in the playoffs last season. They win this game over Somerset, then I'll be on board. Either way, great ballgame and it's exactly what high school football is all about. Good Luck to both teams !!!
This has nothing to do with Kool-aid, first thing I was at that Green Co. game also, this Danville team is 110% playing in the opposite direction from last year. In Danville's first three games their defense has been dominating, includes Mason Co. with one of the states best quaterbacks, and then Rockcastle with a strong ground game. If Danville's offense keeps progressing they will be a state title contender no doubt. Kool-aid statements are based on thinking teams are better than they really are. We will see come friday, Maybe Somerset is drinking some Kool-aid from last year.
  6. The game will be played in Danville, I think that gives Danville the edge. Again I say it most of the time, if Danville takes care of the football and continues to play with an agressive attitude and fire, then they will win a lot of games this year. The ADS kicker looked really good last week, plus a good past performance against a quality quaterback from Mason Co. should help against Somersets good quaterback and receivers. I'll take Danville 38-14.:D

  7. Is that the lowest run total for a Danville team. I mean 21 yards on 30 carries is pretty bad. You average (-) yards rushing.
Rockcastle took away Danville's run game, but what also hurt the rushing yardage was several big losses with quaterback sacks. Also the young guys in thr fourth quater had some big losses. Danville had to have had some pretty good yardage on punt returns though, I would like to see that stat. Rockcastle has no passing game, It's not hard to stop the rushing game when everybody knows who is going to run the ball 95% of the time, that player being Rowe.
  8. I feel the Rock is going to be overlooked due to last year, we have most OL back and we are stronger and hungrier this year. The Rowe kid is a beast and our defense will shut down the run. I think we have a good chance of a upset due to our run game and run defense. I bet the Rowe kid is as fast as any back the ADS have. Dont be fooled into thinking we are some small weak team. We are pretty good sized and very strong.
I'll tell you right now after the season Danville had last year, they will not be overlooking any team on their schedule this year, I'm sure coach Harp will make sure of that. He had them focused in pretty well last friday. I'm sure they will be satyurday night.:D
  9. The schedule is again atrocious outside of their district, which they have no control over. Danville was awful last season in the game at Maysville and as usual don't see any competition from Montgomery,Harrison or Bourbon. Can't these teams be replaced by a Lexington,Louisville or mountain school or one of each. Really no test until second round of playoffs
I thought with a new attitude and playing at home could make a big difference from last year for "THE DANVILLE ADMIRALS".::sssh::D:banana::thumb:
  10. Congratulations coach Harp on your 300th win. I will be the first to say that I did a lot of criticizing last year, mostly out of frustration. It wasn't so much losing last year, but the way they lost, basicaly going through the motions. After last nights performance they have made a 180 degree change from last year, very agressive on defense, inovative on offense, when negative things happened in the game they didn't hang their heads, the players and coaches were working together well, things looked organized, they limited turnovers no fumbles and the backs all ran hard. If the ADS keep working hard and playing with this whole attitude they will have a very nice season.:thumb::D

  11. Monroe County is 2a and dresses 73. That is down from last year of 77....pretty good numbers for a high school of 523.
Does Monroe County have a boys soccer team? It seems that soccer programs at smaller schools tend to draw some young men from football. I have nothing against soccer, just an observation.
  12. This game depends on Danville's defense, there is no way they can let Mason Co.'s quaterback play in his comfort zone, they have to bring the heat. Maybe Danville saw something in Mason's last scrimmage that will help. I think Danville will move the ball offensively if they don't turn it over. Danville has a young quaterback, but he gained a lot of experience last year, and I think Danville will be a lot more solid at that key position this year. If Danville will come out and play with emotion, I think they will win this game 24-21, they have a good experienced kicker back.:D

  13. Ashland will by far be Mason County's toughest oppponent until second or third round of the tournament. District is real weak and outside of district schedule is just as weak. I think Coach B knows his teams weaknesses in size on the lines and has sceduled accordingly. When Lofton,Grutza and company were there they played Dunbar,Boone County, etc. I guess Danville is a good team traditionally, but they were way down last year and MC probably could have scored 60 that game last year. Just wish a couple of games stood out on the schedule
. I think you are going to see a much improved Danville team when the Royals visit next friday evening. Maybe the Admirals will keep it close this time.
  14. I think Boyle will win this game. One thing I remember last year about the Rebels is in some of the early season games they were a little slow to get rolling. If they play like that early and JC got some early breaks it could be close. Simply because the game is at JC and I'm sure that last years game will probably make for a hostile environment this year. I think it will be 7-7 at the half, with the Rebels getting rolling in the second half winning 28-7.

  15. I talked to some people who went to the scrimmage and said the ADS showed some fire. Had a little scrum, after a sideline tackle, and they really got fired up. It probably got the ADS going when Mercer was chanting "This is our House" during warm ups. If the ADS will play with that kind of emotion this year I think they will be fine.:D

Well, maybe Danville will be a little more competitive this year in Danville. :irked: If Danville gets tougher on defense, I know you'll have plenty of competition. In the future Danville has some good talent coming up, and will be as good or better than any Lexington or mountain school you could face.:D
  17. I always had fun Playing the games on Friday Nights, a lot of excitement, good competition. I had fun sharing all the experiences with my coaches and team mates that were involved in the season. I played for Tom Duffy and playing football for him was a seven days week during the season. I guess the only thing that was not much fun was the conditioning. I wish I could still play now, even 29 years later.

  18. We will have to wait and see, but I think if Danville can shore up the defense they can have a good year. I've seen a few practices and everything looks to be all business. If they come out and play agressive I think things will be on the up swing. The offense is there, just need the defense to step up and not dig any big holes early. They have one really nice looking freshman running back, he could be special in a year or two.

  19. I didn't get to see the championship game, but I did go to the game against Bell Co., they kept him from the big play but he hit them for a lot of 7-10 yard runs in the second half. He's tough as they come, not that big and Bell Co. was bringin the wood. Also, impressive was how he didn't fumble in the second half with all those hard hits.:thumb:

  20. I know Boyle will have another very good team this year, but I am interested to see what kind of effect Mc Shara's graduating will have. I still expect Boyle to be there to contend for the 4A title, but I also know Mc Shara's ability to break big plays took a lot of pressure off the defense and a few of those long runs usually took the wind out of their opponents sails.
