  1. I don't think any team would say " hey let's play around with teams in the regular season, and then get serious in the region". This game was not so unlike a lot of games for the Bobcats this season, ie. falling behind or playing even the first quarter or half and then pulling away in the second half. I attribute this to the depth that they enjoy. They can go 8-10 kids deep and not lose a whole lot, depending on the mix of the particular 5 on the floor. Last night demonstrated that Smith, or Breathitt's big man threat, can be nutered. Hollon was hitting last night and a lot of that was probably due to the defense that the Owls played on Smith, etc.
  2. I don't recall the boys regional being at Leslie. I think it's too small. I think Perry is the best in terms of overall accomodations, etc. and Breathitt is next. Then I think Knott and Powell. I haven't been to LCC but it sounds small. I know that a lot of people go to watch their team only but I think just as many go as fans to watch the regional tournament, no matter who's playing. That's why I don't like split sessions. And like I said, a couple of years ago hundreds had to stand outside in the snow and wait for some folks to exit at Hazard so they could enter.
  3. So go watch the first game also so you can have a good seat. Split sessions are a bad deal, especially at schools that have no parking such as Hazard. There you will have to go stand in perhaps freezing weather and wait on a game to end.
  4. Owls led by 2 after first quarter, Breathitt by 2 at the half then just increased their lead in 3rd and 4th.
  5. Overall I think what you are saying is accurate. However, in the case of Breathitt County I think the regional tournament is the decider on how good of a job he has actually done. He has won a lot of games on a very weak schedule which doesn't prove anything. A quality win over Hazard by one point is about the best win they had. So, the proof about the job he has really done will be decided at Letcher Central in my mind.
  6. Sure was. My only complaint there is that the fans set right on the floor with no barrier and the cops over reacted. Actually, not real police, mostly deputies who just work ball games and school security. Don't want to give real police a bad rap!
  7. "everything went well" I have no problem holding the region there but for anyone who attended the last time, this is one of the funniest statements I have ever read on here!
  8. Whoever wins, I don't think it could be considered an upset as so many teams are so close. And when the 14th is close, the edge has to go to Al Holland at Perry Central. His experience and presence is worth a few points every game. And like they say, it's like a new season so the records go out the window and you have to look at how a team has played in the last few outings. 1-Perry Central- Playing well and lots of experience. Therefore, most likely to be able to put together 3 good games in a row. 2- Powell- lots of energy and peaking at the right time. 3- Hazard- lots of speed and good athletes but seem to be fading a bit toward the end of the season. 4- June Buchanan- can't seem to get it all together. 5- Breathitt- a year away from making a serious run. Kids quiting and parents bickering only slows progress. To me, any of the above teams could win te 14th and I've listed them in order of their chances.
  9. Sewell at Breathitt had 46 in one game a couple years ago. That's the last I remember,
  10. No, but I think it was at Perry Central. So if you believe that PCC is the front runner in the 14th, as I do, then you have to rank Powell right up there.
  11. Wow, close game. What a region we have this year.
  12. Good game the whole way. They decided it was a 3 at the last second so score wa 66-63.
  13. I'm sure you are right. I had forgotton about the Lee game.
  14. I've seen Breathitt's gym refered to as the Dome.
  15. He didn't start at Breathitt's home game last week nor the home game before that but I don't go to away games so he might have started on the road.
  16. Letcher is in there somewhere and I think they might come out of their district and Jackson drew Breathitt first round.
  17. Yes. First game he has missed since being back. He could have stayed around and helped his team by being a role player for now. His strength was playing hard and fouling people, which is the kind of kid every team needs sometimes. But he chose not to and that's that I suppose. IMO it doesn't hurt them too much depth wise but as you say, who knows what the fallout is relationship wise.
  18. Disgruntled over playing time. He injured an ankle earlier in the season and other players stepped up and he never was able to break back into the starting lineup.
  19. Looks like Combs has quit the team so maybe a little unrest at Breathitt also.
  20. Sounded like it was back and forth with June B pulling out to about a 9 point lead late in the 4th that Breathitt couldn't overcome.
  21. Well, I'll say this. Senior night in Booneville... anything can happen. Breathitt went in over there with a steller record and strong team a couple of years ago and despite about a 50 point effort by our point guard, walked away with a loss because of Neeley and Gross! Great game and good sportsmanship all the way around.
  22. I've got these to playing for 4th and 5th in the region and I think it will be back and forth with Breathitt winning. I watched the Hazard-JB game at Breathitt and IMO Hazard beat JB soundly for two reasons, speed and a lack of composure on the part of the JB team. Two things that are hard to correct.
  23. I don't think they have. I think it might look something like this: 1 PCC 2 Powell 3 Hazard 4 June Buchanan 5 Breathitt 6 LCC 7 Buckhorn 8 Lee 9 Jackson, Knott, Cordia, etc. I can kind of make an argument for all but Powell and it's more of a huch with them.
