  1. Sean Sutton - Eddie's boy Roger Harden - Indiana Mr. Basketball 1982, Parade / McDonalds All-American Jim Master - Indiana Mr. Basketball 1980, Parade / McDonalds All-American I don't like the guys above because UK could have stayed in-state and gotten better guards in Phil Cox, Barry Goheen, and Scott Draud. Looked better on paper landing Mr. Basketballs / H.S. All-Americans I guess. C.M. Newton, Vandy - stole these three guys and they all had stellar college careers.
  2. 14 points away from being (9-1) Alabama 17-14, S. Carolina 24-17, and Georgia 42-38 8 points away from being (3-7) Middle Tennessee 20-14, Arkansas 21-20, and Mississippi St. 14-13
  3. I was just saying that Spurrier, Cutcliffe, and Davis have done their fair share of recruiting in the Southeast for many years ---- might be tougher for someone brought in from the midwest or far west to be familiar for the '09 season. The "Ole Ball Coach" is probably too old to think about moving again, but he would be at worst (7-2) at UT with the talent they have on their roster. He's a touchdown away in three games from having the Gamecocks (9-0) and probably ranked 1st in the country. If he had a decent QB they'd be undefeated.
  4. Older coaches that could recruit and WIN... Butch Davis, N. Carolina David Cutcliffe, Duke Steve Spurrier, S. Carolina Younger coaches that would bring energy to a program... Mike Stoops, Arizona Chris Peterson, Boise St. Mike Leach, Tex. Tech Brian Kelly, Cincy Bronco Mendenhall, BYU
  5. 2000's LSU (81-20) overall, (48-15) vs. SEC, (6-2) in Bowl Games, including two National Championships '03 and '07 1990's FLORIDA (102-22-1) overall, (69-9) vs. SEC, (5-4) in Bowl Games, Nat'l Champs in '96, finished 8 of 10 years in the top 10. 1980's - Miami 1970's- Alabama (103-16-1) 2 nat'l titles, 8 top 10's 1960's- Alabama (90-16-4) 2 nat'l titles, 9 top 10's
  6. Jason Chandler, Breathitt Co. graduated in '89. Played at Morehead and then went on to AA with the Reds. He could bring it. Shawn Little, Lee Co. graduated in '89. They said he shutout Harrison County 2-0 in '88. Hurt his arm in a game his sr. season. Played at Morehead before transferring to Cumberland because he wanted to hit. Was NAIA all-american his senior year. He threw so hard when he was 12 that they would not allow him to play Little League, moved him up to Babe Ruth.
  7. KHSAA has to set a precedent, this game was the state championship game, in front of thousands of fans and all the local media from Lexington and Louisville caught the argument on camera and it was seen by thousands more. The official at home plate could have nipped all of it, had he warned the PRP catcher and coaching staff that further actions would not be tolerated. Jawing at an opposing player you just tagged in a close game and then slamming the ball down in the vicinity of the opposing player is unsportsmanlike and baiting IMO.
  8. Here's a link: http://www.herald-dispatch.com/sports/highschool/x1724958562/Two-former-Marshall-linemen-make-Kentucky-coaching-debuts KHSAA PENALIZES LAWRENCE COUNTY: In addition to a loss on the football field Friday night, Lawrence County's baseball program took a hit this week when the KHSAA fined the school $1,000 and suspended assistant baseball coach Travis Feltner for the first seven games of the 2009 season for violation of the KHSAA's practice of sportsmanship policy. The baseball program also was placed on probation for one year and because of what the KHSAA deemed a "lack of action" by school officials, the KHSAA also placed the entire athletic program on probation for the 2008-09 school year.
  9. Zach Lewis, Clay County should pass Couch's for Yards Passing in a Career sometime this season, he is only 1,583 yards shy coming into the season. COUCH - 12,167 LEWIS - 10,584
  10. They shouldn't have let him go the first time. Glad to see that the new administration cares about the kids and supports athletics.
  11. Garrard County Bath County Knott Central Lou. Seneca Williamstown
  12. Looks good. Each phase would have the exact same format once you got to the region, 4-teams, double elimination. Seeding would not be a big issue in districts if it was double elimination.
  13. Estill County is funamentally sound, has solid pitching, and a good defense. If they can get some timely hits, I think they could win a game in the series. Greenup County has been on a mission all year though after making it to Applebees last year. Could be a great match up with Lawrence County in the elite 8 if both do what they are expected to do in the semi-state.
  14. Great year Estill County! Ran the table in the 14th region (2002 Lee County was the last to go undefeated). Coach Wood and his staff run a class program!
  15. Coach Jones would do a great job if given the opportunity and "support" that any head football coach must have. He worked his tail off at Powell County but never got the support from the administration to turn the program around. Then they go and lay out the red carpet for Mike Whitaker the following year. From what I've heard Phelps administration made many promises to get him in Pike County and did not follow through on any of them. I would want my son to play for someone like coach Jones, he is a hard worker, runs a disciplined practice, tries to get kids on to the next level, and has a good relationship with the community / boosters.
  16. J.B. Schmidt (1994-2000), scored 311 career runs, walked 166 times, and had 275 hits for the Breds! All are Ky. state records.
  17. Will Heinerman and Shepherd be on the hill in this game? Should be a dandy if they are. If they are, Greenup County by one, 3-2 with Shephered getting a no-decision.
  18. 55th district seeds, so they will more than likely have to beat Wolfe Co. to get to the regional tournament with Breathitt Co. playing Riverside (if the Rams field a team).
  19. 11th region... 2007- Dunbar - STATE CHAMPS 2006- Lex. Cath. - STATE CHAMPS 2005- Lex. Christian - STATE CHAMPS 2004- Lafayette - State Runner-Up 2003- Dunbar - STATE CHAMPS Henry Clay and Tates Creek always have fine teams, and Bryan Station is improving.
  20. Congrats to PCC and Coach Hatcher. He's done more with less than any coach in the 14th this season. The Commodores had a great game plan and LCC played into their hands. Not a pretty style of basketball, but to get kids to play unselfishly and to look for a good shot before chucking up a bad one this day and age is a testiment to Hatcher.
  21. You're right, in most cases academic scholarships that pay at least half of the tuition, require between a 23-25 on the ACT (depends on the college / university). With some athletic money, KEES money in-state, grants if you qualify, work-study programs, and some academic scholarship help you can play sports in college if you are willing to work...and there is always student loans.
  22. Baseball players have got to do it in the classroom. 3.5 GPA and a 21 on the ACT and I guarantee the coach will find them some type of academic scholarship to help offset the cost (if they really want them). Coaches that have been at institutes for a while typically know the review board that analyze the applicants for academic schollys.
  23. Asst. coach Eddie Whitaker and the two players he brought from Bell County was a nice bonus too. Holland has done a good job meshing the talent though. JBS's top 5 players was probably a little more talented than Hazard's, and that turned into a fiasco because of the lack of teamwork which is a direct reflection of coaching. Not to take anything away from coach Holland, but I think Honeycutt and Justice have done more with less talent this season. With LCC's football season lasting three weeks into the playoffs the basketball team got off to a slow start, but they are definitely peaking at the right time under coach Justice.
  24. The only teams that Estill should be favored over in the regional tournament are Powell Co. and Jackson City. If they draw PCC or Cordia, which they have a 66.7% chance of doing, it will be more than likely an early exit. 1. Hazard - most talent, best coach 2. LCC - hottest team in region 3. PCC - hosting region 4. Cordia - district final loss could be a wake-up call 5. Breathitt / Estill / Powell / Jackson - if they draw each other someone has to get to the semi-finals with one of the top four waiting on them - so one good game and one of them could be in the regional finals, Jackson got a fortunate draw with Cordia and then outplayed a more talented Leslie Co. team just two seasons ago to reach the finals.
  25. Stamper, KCC Cox, JBS Hurt, Cordia Campbell, Hazard Whitaker, Hazard Clark Stepp, JBS Kinser, Powell Gay, Buckhorn Puckett, Jenkins Collins, JBS POY - Banks, LCC
