Yes, there have been moments. I agree, their district can battle for the toughest in 2A every year. To add to their stress, many of the "talented" kids are making the 10/15 minute drive to McCracken Co.

Wish Coach Bledsoe good fortune. Kevil is a difficult place to win. I like the non district schedule for the bombers. Hopefully, they can have some success.

Coach Poole stepped up in a huge way for these kids!!! I'm glad they are going to have a season after they missed last year due to Covid. Coach Poole helped back when the Eagles were winning championships. I hope he is able to get the program back on the right track! Imagine that Ft Campbell team with Antonio Andrews (Mr. Kentucky) in this district ?

I wonder if their goal is to be a post grad school in the coming years? Schools like IMG, Carmel Catholic and such.

@Bud_Kilmer I do not think Coach Bowling will run spread. It doesn't seem to be in his DNA. I was just making the point that he has to use the talent that he has available. I'm not putting down the flex bone offense by any means. It can be a super efficient offense in many ways. Defenses have to be very disciplined when run correctly. Running the ball and controlling the clock is key in November. Your last statements is what I believe will be their key as well: I do really hope that they can incorporate a good pass game with it. You have to play 1 on 1 coverage against it. Throw it 8-12 times a game and it can put up some more easy points for you and make defenses really think.

The Tigers were left without a DC or HC on the evening of June 16th. They both are from west TN and have always lived there. Coach Morris (DC) was offered a HC job @ West Carrol about 10 days prior. I wish him the best and he is a great young mind the Genuinely cares about student/athletes!! Hodge came from Dresden, TN. They contacted him on Monday asking if he wanted his old job back. I'm guessing he will be there until he desires not to be. Coach Bowling came into the Olive Branch job kind of the same manner he was hired at Murray. It was a tough situation from the get go. He stepped down in January after 1 season and finished the year as the AD. My guess is he wanted to be back in this area (WKY, WTN). Lifestyle in Olive Branch/Memphis is a bit different. I agree with CWB. I do think Murray made the right decision. Coach Bowling runs a tight ship. He will get kids mentally tough and ready to play! I also agree with @snakesnot_2000 that Coach Bowling's style with the flex bone is going to be something they will have to adjust to. I think that will go both ways! He's going to have to involve the talent he has available. Having Zavion Carman, (6' 4", speed, great hands, sophomore), Xavier Biggers (fast, quick, great hands, sophomore), Cam Youngblood (good route runner, Senior), Kam Murphy (6'2"good hands, junior), and Colin ?(6'0", strong, physical TE, sophomore). KY football is different and that is something Coach Bowling will have to understand. He can go back to 2017 and watch the Mayfield game (41-0). Union City went on to win the TN state championship averaging 39 points per game. Mayfield went on and lost the KY state championship to Danville. In 2A football, all roads in WKY go through War Memorial stadium as it did last year when Murray beat them in a thriller.

Don't quote me but I don't believe CC approved it district wide. This team is loosing a lot of leadership from last year's squad. It was a stout senior class! They do have a couple of key pieces back. Their QB, Luke Crider, is very dependable! He's been hitting the camp circuit and from what I've heard has been creating chatter. DT/DE Dylan Yates is an all WKY selection that will help anchor the defense. Good luck to the Rockets!

I've heard that their numbers continue to be low (for a 5A school). They do have some talent but they are very young and undersized. I see a lot of growing pains in the near future. Being in the district with BG & SW doesn't help! side note: I do like their new Uniforms. Major improvement ?

Congrats to Mr. Veltcamp! Although, not a huge surprise he was leaning to stay. I believe his dad is still on staff at WKU. Bet he is happy to still see his son grow through football the next four years.

Yes. Qb does have a really good arm but has been very inconsistent since he became the starter. He will be surrounded by talent all over the field and that could ease some of his struggles. It will be interested how the passing game will be integrated (if any) under the flex bone offense Coach Bowling is known to run.

When running a double wing/flex bone offense. Murray has been here before. From 2008-2013, Coach Steve Duncan coach the Tigers running a similar offense. His tenure brought a hard nose, blue collar offense similar to what Coach Bowling is accustomed to. Murray was 63-16 (8-4,12-1,12-1,12-2,10-3,9-5) during those seasons with a couple semi state games. I agree with Bud_Kilmer. Coach Bowling needs to take advantage of the skill players he has on hand. This year's skill group looked to be better than what they had last year. Hope he gets buying from everyone on day 1.

2A football in the west was not for the faint of hearts last year. It was a nice to see OCath being challenged the last two season after owning the rights to the district for the majority of the last two decades. Two years ago, McClean Co upset the aces in the playoffs and then, the hornets this past year came up short in the second round to the Aces. OCath went away from their traditional air raid mid season by putting their best playmaker under center for the remainder of the season. Will took them to the third round where they were bullied by a solid Murray team 28-7 for the regional crown. The Aces and Hornets look keep that district close this year. Can't wait to see who comes out on top. Not to be out done, the other west district had it's own share of drama. First, Mayfield beats Caldwell Co 21-20 on a missed PAT. Caldwell missed the PAT early and had a chance to tie by going for 2 but decided to kick and brought the score to 21-20 in the 4th Q. The Tigers took their last possession deep to Cardinal territory before a controversial 4th down play turned the ball over to Mayfield making it game over. Second, Murray takes the show to Princeton, KY for the battle of the Tigers. The game, full of drama and flags!! Late in the 4th Q, Caldwell had a 4th and forever at mid field. A hail mary ensued which ended incomplete. While Murray celebrated, a whistle came to into play for a non-existing pass interference call that gave Caldwell an opportunity to kick a field goal to tie as time expired 34-34. Murray grabbed first possession in OT and punched its way into the end zone, PAT good 41-34. Caldwell tried a jet sweep on forth down, the back stretched the play to the sideline and dove for the TD. The pylon moved forward only to be called short. Ball game, Murray 41-34. Then, Mayfield goes into Murray for a slug fest... Turnovers, missed opportunities brought the game to a 14-14 tie at the end of regulation. Mayfield scored on their first play in overtime and PAT was good. Murray took all four downs to muscle it to the end zone. They decided to go for the win and Mayfield made a good play to deflect the pass out wide. Game over. Mayfield 21-20. First round of the playoffs. Rematch between the Tigers. Back and forth they went for 4 quarters. The key play at the end of the game: Caldwell trailing 28-21 goes for a fake punt only to be intercepted for a pick six giving Murray a 35-21 lead. They will hang on to win 35-28. District championship: Murray @ Mayfield. Sounds repetitive but this game could go down as the game of the year in 2A. Won't go into details because it's too much to write, but Murray beat Mayfield in 3OT with an interception at the goal line 28-21. I hope that 2021 is just as good in this district... But I believe the Cardinals will once again be heavily favored and out for revenge after loosing the grip on the district crown this past year.
