  1. Any info about Boyle’s players? I guess what we know about Highlands so far is weak, weak, undisciplined and weak. Might as well start with a running clock.
  2. As I read your post the voice turned into Ivan Drago’s voice in my head. I don’t know..... I think this will be closer than last year is what common sense would say. Both teams lost a lot from last year but more so Boyle for sure. The game is at Highlands, I believe there is still a bit of home field advantage in these times. Highlands hung with them for a half or so last year. Stopping Noon running the ball is easier said than done. He can pick up yards and it controls the clock. Look , I am not saying Boyle shouldn’t be favored. But if Highlands get a lucky break here or there it might get interesting.
  3. All Highlands needs to do is score more points than Boyle and they should win.
  4. Nice win for the ‘Birds on the road. Noon needs to just start at QB and Fahlbusch should be starting both ways. The longer they wait on this the longer it will take them to get to peak performance. Was Richter hurt?
  5. Birds respond with a win in a close one. I hope they go with one guy at QB and use the other guy somewhere else. The QB read option with Noon at QB looked impressive to me. Fahlbusch could probably be a great TE/LB or something? Im not sure if they use a TE anymore. Gotta get all the talent on the field.
  6. Yes for sure jr league is only one factor in the system, For historical Highlands it was a big factor. Power 5 D1 guys also a big factor. Towles is the most recent one. So 2012, 2014 were years where they won it without Power 5 dudes.
  7. Yeah, you’re not doing correct cross referencing here. Fort Thomas Jr Football League used to be awesome. It used to prepare a ton of kids for the HHS freshman football. Some different people got control of it and changed it to be more about regional competition as opposed to being more developmental like it was from 1950s to like 2010. Funny thing was that correlates not with freshman football but with highlands state championships. The FT Jr FL Is making strides to be like that again for the past couple of years. The people in control now understand what the old ways accomplished. When you get too competitive early you drive away and miss out on a lot of kids. A lot of those kids are late bloomers/ growth spirts/ hard workers. Highlands used to retain all those kids. I believe the sophomores and juniors are the first classes that experienced a more developmental jr football league.
  8. I like your outlook. Also I think SK is pretty good. Really good HC, real deal QB, solid running game. They may shake things up in 6A.
  9. I apologize, I didn’t mean to trash on Bishop Brossart. I just picked them because they are small catholic school. There were some years there were Cov Cath played like they were Bishop Brosarts size. Bishop Brossart is a great program and didn’t deserve that comment.
  10. Yeah I mean did you expect 11 players to never leave the field? It would be nice to see Welch and Surrey at CB The whole game. Seeing South literally playing both ways at RB/LB was refreshing.
  11. Forget names but I thought I saw a few Wr/dbs didn’t I?
  12. At least they played their studs both ways. I’ve been waiting for that for a long time. This loss was disappointing but I saw some nice talent on the field for the Birds. First game in a weird year with no scrimmage and limited contact in practice. Hopefully they learned from this and can move on and win. The seasons change fast in high school football. Six years ago I was wondering if Cov Cath was going to wither into a Bishop Brossert type of program. At that time Highlands was winning state championships every year. Now It’s Cov Cath that are the boss of NKy. The seasons will change again. Fort Thomas still has passion for their Birds, there just isn’t much to say right now. The denial phase is over.
  13. Highlands’ illegal procedure play needs to be pulled from the playbook. Play calling and play design had some good plays and many bad. Good (Noon read option) bad (all the ones with 4 seconds of razzle dazzle behind the line if scrimmage for a loss). South and Richter looked good, they just need to be put into space a little better. Surrey was by far the most sure handed receiver, too many dropped balls by the birds. Congrats to SK, they made a few big plays that made the difference. Their QB Crone looked really good.
  14. When Highlands had Beau Hoge he hid a lot of weaknesses that Highlands had that showed up the next year. I don’t think this happens to Cov Cath, but I’m interested to see what the void of Mayer does to this team. They have probably the best QB in nky with two years of top level experience so that helps a lot.
  15. They graduated the best player in school history so probably not as good as last year. But still top in nky. Down for their standard the past 5 years? I think logically, yes. There are no Mayers or McGuinnesses on the team this year. Mostly new OLine. Down in ky? Not really.
  16. It will be interesting to see the ‘birds this game.... Who is at QB? To what extent will players be playing both ways? If Fahlbusch isn’t the QB how will he be used? Lots of mysteries being revealed game 1. I heard the O Line is the biggest it’s been in years. If they can rattle soph veteran QB Chase Crone early and often they should get the W. Go Birds! So glad football is here! PIONEERS 28 BIRDS 35
  17. Michael Mayer was a national nightmare on both sides of the ball. Not only could he do whatever he wanted but he consumed the best players on the other teams. For example the good Cov Cath players never took on the best players of the other team, Mayer did that work, sheltering his teammates. Also the other teams game plan was all about him. Not saying Cov Cath loses, but Mayer was a 17 point difference maker with normal ky teams on his bad days. The heavy lifting is about to be spread around. Caleb Jacob is really good but now he is the focus. Mayer’s shoes are impossible to fill, luckily the Colonels have the best coach in the state. Dixie 28 Cov Cath. 42
