El Diablo

Highlands has a great chance to win a state title this year. But Boyle is still out there along with some other quality teams. It’s not locked up yet by a long shot. I do like our chances though.

Highlands has about 500 boys. I thought Elder had a lot more boys than 850 for some reason.

I agree, the teams were a good match. Highlands could have won that game. I think the moral victory is that Highlands will not face a team of that caliber on the path to a potential championship. Also, Highlands should have no business playing like that with a school the size of Elder.

I’d like to see a little more grinding it with Lorenzen and then have Armstrong pull it off a fake. Also I’d like to see Highlands try going deep a little more. Highlands is still within reach. Just need a couple turnovers. Elders QB is really good, need to get to the QB. Fun game so far.

Wow Moeller uniforms are terrible. Black and light blue? They look like an arena league expansion team. How do you mess that up? They were a classic uniform years ago.

If things go Highlands way and they play like they did against Boyle / Cov Cath this one should be close at least in the first half. My biased prediction is Highlands has the lead at half. Then Elder comes back in the second half and has a one score lead setting up a legendary final scoring drive to win it for the Birds. Elder 34 Highlands 37

I love when this game is all blue vs all white. The teams should agree to this uniform matchup regardless of who is the home team.

Cov Cath will be fine. Never overlook the Colonels.

Is it possible they play each other in the state championship?

Boyle looked more like themselves in the second half. Potential Rematch will be some primetime football watching.

Congrats to Birds on a signature win!

How much time is left?

Wow. Really tough for Boyle to come back now.

I'm shocked. Unreal. Hopefully Highlands finishes this. Holy moly.

Boyle Co 31 Highlands 34 I heard Boyle's QB was also out in addition to the suspension of Driver. Unreliable source, just wanted to see if there was any truth.

Shouldn’t be… but it will be. They’re not really there yet. Lots of on-field learning needed for birds.

Highlands rebounds and wins in a close one. Cooper 28 Highlands 30 Highlands defense wore down in the previous game and it really showed. If the offense makes as many mistakes and turnovers as they did in the previous game, this will be a nail biter.

I think they are well conditioned. Guys going both ways in a humid environment. First game of the year. The 4-0 turnovers were brutal. Birds will bounce back. That’s a really good Douglass team.

I think that’s most tired I’ve seen a Highlands team.

Two sophomore QBs leading two tier one Kentucky programs in a big-time season opener. Looking forward to this one. The defenses will control much of the game and FGs will decide the final. Bluebirds 27 Broncos 24

During the Blue / White game tonight Highlands is honoring the 96 State Championship Team that went 15-0. This was Dale Mueller’s first championship team. Lead by captains Justin Frisk, Toby Hlad, PJ Sauer and Brady Grimm. Legendary coach Jim “Red Dog” Daugherty passed away during this season and was a huge inspiration to the team. Highlands kicked off the season upsetting Lou St Xavier and capped off the season defeating Hopkinsville in the AAA State Championship.

Brutal matchup for week one. I know Elders all world QB is returning but will they be better than last year? Their OLine was nasty last year. Win or lose it’s good preparation, won’t see anybody better in KY.

Considering the Birds schedule that would be really good. Birds are looking prepared and have a ton of talent. Excited to watch them this year, seems like they could make a run at state. Ryle graduated a ton of guys. They will improve, they just need some time.
