Open Discussion Region 9 Tournament
Tonight's NCC Vs NDA 6PM @ Covington Catholic HS is an interesting matchup. NCC first year head coach is a NDA alumni and former JV coach as recently as last season.

9th Region Draw
Based on what I heard, not sure it had anything to do with helping the assigner, if it does that's a bonus. NDA can not host at their place due to no lights, so they had to move their first round game to another venue. In years past they rented Dixie HS. Not sure how NDA and CCH are handling the arrangement, such as rent free to NDA in exchange CCH gets the gate and concession, etc. And I would certainly expect one admission gets you both games, which helps attract a larger crowd for both games. My hats off to both CCH and NDA for putting this together for the good all of the players and their supporters. If the AD at HHS is overworked and underpaid, are all HS ADs overworked and underpaid? Or are there specifics reasons to say the HHS AD is overworked and underpaid? If this is the case at HHS, post #9 makes a ton of sense.

9th Region Draw
Some interesting first round matchups. Holy Cross @ St Henry is one to watch. St Henry in most home games has a huge advantage given the natural grass field and how they leave it very long on game days. Since HC also plays their home games on natural, very long grass also, this should reduce the home field advantage St Henry enjoys against a lot of opponents. Nice touch by NDA and CCH for scheduling the double header on Monday @ CCH. And to St Henry for doing the same at their place. Should help attract larger crowds and a great atmosphere @CCH and St Henry! Weather prediction looks perfect for regional soccer matches. Get out and support your teams(s) in large numbers.

My new favorite HS player, can we get his name? Congrats to the Juggs, how far can they go in the playoffs?

Campbell County 1 Bishop Brossart 0 (PK) (Shootout)
Campbell Co won it in OT on a PK. Or they won in PKs?
-
Campbell County 3 Calvary Christian 0
If I'm a Calvary supporter I'm asking myself why this is. If this is a reoccurring issue it's hard to blame bad luck for being knocked out early. In any one season, injuries can play a part. If the cause is not solely due to impact players going down then what is the reason? Strength of schedule, i.e. playing a soft schedule, priorities, W-L-T record/scoring a lot of goals Vs trying to win your region or is it something else? Current Maher SOS has Brossart 223, Campbell Co 260, Calvary 720, quite a large difference. No question Brossart has one of the top coaches in NKY, he has proven it at St Henry and now with Brossart. It makes a difference, especially this time of year. I've heard it is not easy for schools such as Calvary to get stronger teams on their schedule but, Brossart, NCC, HC, Beechwood and Villa, all similar NKY teams played stronger schedules. It would appear Calvary needs to do a much better job preparing for the post season if they want to get over this hump.

Bishop Brossart 5 Scott 0
I figured the coaches or AD called the score into KHSAA. Not sure KHSAA goes by what is posted on the score board. I agree with you comments. How has Brossart done on the plastic surface this season? I'll go with a 2-1 Brossart win.

Bishop Brossart 5 Scott 0
This would add up to 6 goals. Was it 5-0 or 6-0 final? Should be a good final, any prediction?
-
Campbell County 3 Calvary Christian 0
Little surprised but not surprised. Early in the season I thought Calvary had a chance to make some noise in the 10th region, thought they looked dangerous in August. Explains why I'm a little surprised. Not surprised due to the schedule Calvary played, IMO this is a big reason teams such as this have a tendency to get knocked out early in the post season. Congrats to CC, should be a good, exciting final on Thursday.

District Games Start Tonight
Seems odd/unusual to have the semi finals on different days. Should give the winner of the Murray/Mayfield winner vs. Calloway County an advantage on Thursday.

District Games Start Tonight
The 26th district final has a chance to be a really good game between two good teams. C_W_B, thanks for posting the district schedules.

Bishop Brossart 2 Boone County 1
I believe a tackle from behind, certainly one hard enough to knock the offensive player off the ball or knock him down (not sure how hard the foul was in this case) is a foul if you get the ball or not. Maybe the own goal was called a gift due to the Boone player knocking it into the goal instead of clearing it out, which would have prevented the Brossart player from tapping it in. Was the attempt to clear it a shank, miss hit?

Strongest District in NKY
Strongest, most competitive are two different questions IMO. And by strongest do you mean which has the most depth or best team? Obviously this changes each yr so talking 2017 only, IMO most competitive is 37th, although the 33 and 34 will be as well. Most depth is 33rd. Ask me around 9:30PM on Oct 21 and I give my strongest.

Bishop Brossart 2 Boone County 1
Another sign the 37th District tournament will be a wide open, 3 horse race to the finish line? Brossart would appear to have an easy first round game Vs Scott, the opposite can likely be said about the Calvary Vs Campbell Co game. Setting up a very competitive final on 10/12. Two off days between the first round and final probably dull and voids an easy game Vs a difficult game on 10/9.

Notre Dame Academy 4 Highlands 1
I'm a bit confused, were you at this game (NDA Vs Dixie)? If you weren't in attendance what prompts you to say, "NDA Dominated the game against Dixie also"? I do not see where anyone else on BGPs indicated NDA dominated their games Vs Dixie. There are currently 3 post on the Dixie v NDA thread, not one of them say one thing about either team dominating the game.

Notre Dame Academy 4 Highlands 1
Having watched thousands of soccer matches, it is rare when a 4-1 game is not dominated by long stretches of the game by the winning team. This was not one of those rare occasions. The losing side at times has a way of convincing themselves otherwise. Either way, dominating performance or not, no matter how you slice it, how you debate it, if "they (NDA) had one shot that beat the HHS defense. ONE" or not (I still count 4) or what colored glasses you wore while watching it, the outcome remains the same, 4-1.

Obviously we see things different. Goals scored off of set pieces are beating the defense... for a number of reasons. First during the run of play the offensive player(s) created a situation causing the defensive play to foul or commit an infraction that resulted in a set piece being awarded to the offensive team. Second the offensive player or players must convert the set piece against the defense to score a goal. It is not as if the 11 defensive players stand on the sideline while the set piece is being taken by the offensive team. Set pieces, even PKs are defended.

Covington Catholic 1 Conner 1
Nice result for the Connor program. Probably a game CCH (should) put well behind while walking to their cars.

6A #1 Trinity vs. #2 St. Xavier at University of Louisville
Maybe therein lies the problem?

Notre Dame Academy 4 Highlands 1
Likely the best two teams on the girls side in NKY are finally getting some much over due interest on BGPs. This being the 15th post on this thread, by far most on girls soccer since Ties......Yawn on August 30. Where will the girls 9th regional tournament be held this season?

I stand by my 70 minutes comment and it is a round number, maybe 68 minutes, 71... I never said HHS wasn't dangerous, in their 10-12 minutes they had good chances, on one particular shot the NDA keep had to come up big and she did. And don't forget the HHS keeper came up big a couple of times also. And sure if HHS goes up 2-0 it may well have been a different game, but that can be said of a ton of games played between two good teams, "If we had only scored that second goal it would have been a different game", "If only we had not given up that PK goal it would have been a different game." Did get a chuckle reading this, "Really NDA got one a penalty, one on a corner that may have been an own goal, the laser direct kick (which was awesome) and then one that the NDA player actually beat HHS defense. NDA did not dominate and is fortunate to come away with the victory." The penalty was a foul in the box and a well struck PK, no gift there. Corner kick was well hit and to a great spot, own goal or not, not a gift. The 3rd was "awesome" and 4th "NDA player actually beat the HHS defense", no gifts there. Not sure how this equates to "fortunate to come away with the victory." That being said, "The rubber match, assuming they meet again in Regionals, should be interesting."

Yes all defense fouls committed in the penalty area result in a PK attempt awarded to the offensive team. Sometimes when the foul is committed very close to the edge of the penalty area the ref will call the foul but not award a PK, instead awarding a free kick just outside the area, by doing so he "indicates" he saw the foul being committed just outside the area. As you describe it accurately, I thought the call in the NDA/HHS game was a good call. Who's to say without the foul the offensive player turns and makes a great shot on goal or a great pass that leads to a goal. It is not the ref's responsibility to evaluate the future before making his call. It was a clear foul committed inside the area. Defensive players need to know where they are on the field and be a bit less aggressive inside the area. In this case the defensive player had her (offensive player) contained and dribbling away from goal, she simply became inpatient and a bit over aggressive and committed the foul.
