  1. All but one (Highlands, city school) of the schools mentioned in the 9th region, NCC, St Henry, Holy Cross, Villa, Cov Latin and NDA are private, parochial schools, used ZERO tax dollars to pay for their fields AND everything else by the way. Their fields are fully funded by capital campaigns. So "not really fair" can be discussed in many different ways.
  2. I know this is the boys soccer thread put you can add NDA's field, one the best facilities in KY by the way. Even though it is also used by lacrosse, HS lacrosse is a spring sport, so not technically shared. Their field is lined for both soccer and lacrosse, but no UGLY football lines.
  3. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. CCH has a Maher SoS of 47. This is not an opinion but computed from statistics. Would it benefit CCH to play a stronger schedule, drop some teams, YES. Playing #3 Trinity very tough to a 1-1 tie @ Trinity, beating an undefeated (at the time) #9 Anderson @ Anderson 3-1, beating, like a drum #16 Madison Central 4-0, going on a 5-0-0 run late with four straight shutouts against some good teams, Anderson, Simon Kenton, Madison Central, Seven Hills, Cooper and then giving #1 Summit everything they wanted in a very competitive 3-2 loss is not a "pretty soft year for CCH" IMO. I'll say it again, watching this team for most of the season, I'll make a strong argument this team is playing by far their best soccer right now, and IMO "playing very well."
  4. Congratulations to both schools. In just the third year of their program, Beechwood earns a Regional spot! CCH comes out focused and gets the job done. Playing very well at the right time of the year. Beechwood did a good job hosting the district tournament with a nice facility. The two lane track is a little funky looking, got to make it out to a track meet there next spring, that has to be very interesting to see. Good luck to both teams the rest of the way.
  5. I see two problems with this. I believe Boone Co BOE does not allow their schools to play on Sundays. Bad situation if the four games on Sunday are canceled to due weather delay, and more likely if scheduled on a natural turf field. This causes a scramble to get them rescheduled on Monday or Tuesday, and then what, use multiple fields? Almost impossible to play four games on one day, at one venue on a Monday-Friday.
  6. One disadvantage of playing all first round regional games at four different sites, the attendance is spread out, lower spectators at each game. Maybe a better idea would be to hold the first round games at two different sites, two games at each site on Tuesday. But which two schools would host these games? Rarely an easy solution to a complicated problem. Personally I would love to see all semi finals and finals held on a neutral site every year, @ NKU!
  7. I like the fact the District winners host the first round of regionals for a couple of reasons. First if ALL 4 first round games are held at one site, I assume this would need to be done over two days, or the first game of 4 would need to start around 3:30PM, Either way it would be a huge mistake IMO. If they were played over two days, like the World Cup this causes huge problems, giving two teams an extra day of rest before the semi finals. Second it rewards the District winners (at least the few schools that have a field capable of hosting) by giving them one more home game. Assume they get to keep the gate and concession proceeds? And puts more importance on the District final game. Certainly the current winner plays losers format is incentive enough to win your district put also earning to host the first round of regionals is a nice bonus. Does any know remember if the first round games (4 games) of last year's 9th regional held at Dixie were played over two days?
  8. I wasn't aware the 8 teams in the 9th Region tournament (or any of the 16 regional tournaments) are actually seeded, this is news to me. So they are seeded 1-8 and 1 plays 8, 2 plays 7 and so on? I was told simply the District winners host first round, no matter what their "seed" may be.
  9. I've heard the District winners host the first round of Regionals on Tuesday, 10/18. Semi finals on Thursday, 10/20 and finals Saturday 10/22. The big question is where? If CCH and Cooper win today they would need to secure a field to host, neither CCH (no permanent lights) or Cooper (to small) can host on their fields. I could be wrong but I think its a Boone Co school's turn to host semi finals and finals, which would mean these 3 games will be played at Ryle.
  10. Sounds like it was a decent game and I wonder if BC doesn't make that mistake, turnover with just a few seconds left in the first half/goal for Cooper the game might have been a little tighter? Nothing worse then fighting to stay in a game then give up a horrible goal seconds before the half ends, tough to over come. Ryle Vs Cooper has the makings of a great final. Anxious to read the prediction thread on this one.
  11. I actually think this game could help CCH moving forward. The way Holy Cross packed 8+ in the box was the perfect practice run for what they may see more of in the coming games. CCH did a nice job of being patient and breaking down the HC defense. 10-0 with 13 minutes still on the clock and CCH went deep into their bench early in both halves, all of the recent call ups got a lot of quality minutes. And unlike what some on bgps have indicated (outcome may have been different if HC starting keeper played) Hobbs has a lot of experience playing keeper and played very well last night.
  12. I agree with groin pull's, summary and assessment of the game, "fair result". This was the sort of game a ton of teams would have folded up and lost 6, 7 or more to 0. Having out played the huge favorite, Summit, the #1 in Cincinnati for the first 35 minutes, and no question CCH should have been up at least 1-0, to give up a goal 5 minutes before the half was very tough. Then go down 3-0 and suffer two injuries to starters and somehow find a way to get back in the game is remarkable and says a lot about this CCH team. CCH was pressing all the way to the end, Summit must have walked out of there thinking we got away with one tonight. Just like in the past 6 games, every player for CCH stepped up and played great. #7 and #12 for Summit were a handful last night. This CCH teams plays for each other, has great senior leadership, and is a well put together team. All season long many have doubted them, predicting big losses to the Trinitys, Andersons, Madison Centrals, the Summits. I sense the players have never doubted themselves or each other. Congratulations to Summit on the win, well deserved. Congratulations to CCH for a tremendous effort and good luck to both teams on what should be deep runs into the post season for both teams.
  13. I've heard Summit has four D-1 commitments, and likely more to follow. They play like a high level club team, probably because a lot of their players are on CUP, KHA, OE, and a few other clubs' top teams. Quite simply they are loaded. Unlike most HS teams Summit can start 11 quality players and maybe bring in a few off the bench. CCH will be under a lot of pressure and they will need a good effort from everyone. Good thing is this CCH team has done it before, Vs @ Trinity and @ Anderson. Can they do it again, yes! Can they also loose by 3, 4 goals, yes. I believe the result will have a lot to do with how CCH plays. Game will be broadcast on CCH Internet radio. Link can be found on the covcath.org/athletics/ site.
  14. Pretty sure Summit played St X (OH) back in pre-season. Summit's two toughest games (by a wide margin) to date were St Benedict and Penn Charter, I think both are prep schools from up east. In a classic, CCH 2 - Summit 2.
  15. I would agree, the final was an entertaining game, both teams played well and well officiated game! Both CCH and HHS have some young talent in the pipeline, should be fun to watch both groups compete in the coming seasons. A few side notes worth mentioning. The crowd was great to see, one of the largest crowds I have seen for a JV game, larger then some varsity games. The HHS keeper guessed correct on the first three PKs, saving the first two, great job. He went to his left, right and right again. He got a hand on the third one but it had to much power on it and went in. Obviously this had a huge impact on the final result. At one point the young Stava (looks to be an emotional player in a good way, plays with passion) was taken out of the game. Two CCH varsity players at the game went down at the end of the bench to what looked like console him. This is great to see, not only varsity players there to support their school teammates but also there to lend a supportive voice. Just a great night of HS soccer, congratulations to both teams and their fans!
  16. Four clean sheets in a row for CCH in their fifth win in a row, against some pretty good teams, (Anderson OH's only loss on the season, MC's only loss in their last 8 games, Cooper's first loss in 5 games). Holding Snow (21G/5A, 1.9 gpg on the season) scoreless is no easy task, so job well done again. As for the offense, missing Blom is a factor, moving him to OSMid has made a difference in their attack. CCH has scored 15 goals in this 5-0 run, 3 gpg will win you a lot of games. And hats to the Cooper goalie, he made a few nice saves last night Cooper has a nice team, if they can get healthy it would not surprise me if they win the 33rd District. Good luck to both teams, both have difficult upcoming matches. Cooper @ #13 MC on Saturday, CCH host #1 (in Cincinnati) Summit CD on Tuesday.
  17. Yellow Card is correct, Boone Co comes in at KY #85, Connor is #92. Either way Sir! seems to have explained it even better, giving CCH a #10/15.26 and Cooper #36/13.56 equals a 1.7 differential on a neutral field, 2.7 goal favorite @ CCH. Hard to argue against his rational, I agree; CCH 3 - Cooper 1.
  18. "abuses language " is not becoming of a young lady. Normally a straight red for this involves two very well know words. How many games does a player get for this type of red card?
  19. Why do they play these games on the small, 1/2 field? I know in the early rounds they have two games going on simultaneously so playing on the 1/2 field is understandable. But I've seen the final played on the 1/2 field with the other 1/2 not being used by no one but the little siblings running around, makes no sense not to play at least the final on the full field. Who is the favorite(s)?
  20. Could this be considered a moral victory for HC? They have struggled this year compared to their recent history, looking like a long shot to get out of the 35 district this season. When was the last time that happened?
  21. Teams that appear to be flat footed, non-interested are the in many cases playing this way as a result of the way their opponent is playing. From reading these posts CCH dominated the game, scoring 4 goals on a team allowing .6 goals per game and not allowing ANY offensive stats, no shots, no shots on goal, no corner kicks is the second half is really something.
  22. Disappointed to read this, NCC boys and girls both knocked out in semi finals. Put it behind you and get ready for Districts. NCC Vs HHS district girls and boys matchups should be fun games to watch.
  23. I wonder if this game was played on the turf at Simon Kenton would the out come had been different? Many teams that train and play 50% or more of the games on the synthetic stuff tend to struggle moving to the natural grass surface, and St Henry's thick, slow surface probably made it even worse.
  24. I understand NCC had a lot of games recently but a lot of teams do. Looking at schedules its pretty normal to play 3 games almost every week. I question 8 games in 12 days, why? Whos in charge of putting that schedule together, does not sound at all productive, not to mention unsafe. But 8-0, wow! I expected Collegiate to roll in this one but never would have expected this result. Anyone there with details?
