  1. I posted a thread about it on Saturday night. You have to scroll down a bit. Spencer County came out flat. Let Christian Academy get out to something like a 12-0 lead and had to battle back the whole game. They got within four points with about 2:00 minutes left in the game. There was a lid on the basket and had about 10 unforced turnovers. Didn't play well at all, but still had a shot. They had a very physical game (almost a brawl) the night before against Eminence. Probably were a little tired, but Christian Academy has a very good team.
  2. Spencer County came out flat and couldn't overcome their bad start. Lid on the rim.
  3. Coachlee--three of Spencer County's 8th graders played for Schooler at Fern Creek on his GHITP AAU teams so I've been able to watch what is going on over there. Hoping Spencer County will have similar success very soon. Playing early and getting that experience is so important. It's really starting to show in our last several games.
  4. Don't count your chickens before they hatch. There is a team with kids just as good and actually younger. Spencer County.
  5. Spencer County controlled this game throughout. A kid from Eminence went Grayson Allen and tried to start a fight on two separate occasions. Got ejected.
  6. I agree that when healthy Collins is very good, but Spencer County also played very badly. They hit one three the whole game and some of the younger kids hadn't been in that environment before so---it was a good experience. I don't know if you saw the game, but Spencer County probably missed 15 point blank shots. I'm hoping that Spencer is lucky enough to get by the first district game and play a healthy Collins in the final. I think it will be a better game than people realize. Some of the youngsters on Spencer's team have gotten some experience this year and are really playing well. It would be a fun game to watch. Like I said I think a healthy Collins is a VERY good team.
  7. Come watch a game. Your not going to give them any credit until they knock off one of the top three--which they almost did against Oldham and South Oldham. Desales is a pretty solid team and I don't care what you think about Anderson they are a top 5 team in the region and Spencer won on their home court. I've seen all the top teams play except Walton Verona and Anderson is top 5. Gallatin isn't bad and Spencer beat them. I know Larue County was 14-2 when Spencer beat them ( I will agree that their record was a little deceiving. Lost by single digits against Collins AT Collins. Dom was sick in that game, but he played a quarter and a half and we were even when he was in. He actually hit a last second shot at the end of the first quarter to give Collins the one point lead. So I really don't know what they have to do for you to consider Spencer a good team. They look to be 4th in the region out of 17 teams. Let me know what your criteria involves.
  8. Stinks that the 30th district is so loaded. One really good team is going to be left out. I see some of these districts that are so weak allowing teams to get in the regional tournament. Just doesn't seem fair. Oh well, I guess the teams that get out of those loaded districts will be battle tested and ready to do bigger things later.
  9. "Pecking Orders" change year to year. I guess you need to quit living in the past. I don't evaluate teams and players based upon what they did last year or the years before. Every year is different. You make a lot of assumptions saying that this success might sustain itself for 2 or 3 years. Our middle school basketball program may set a record this year for winning championships at 6th, 7th, and 8th grade level. I would say Spencer County is loaded for the next at least 7 years. "The Pecking Order" as you call it is getting ready to change. Just remember I told you first. Finally, from what I observed Anderson has three very good players. One of them being a top three player in the region. Seems more than enough to be a top team. Maybe the coaching staff is not doing a great job this year. Drury looked a little befuddled last night. That "young coach" was putting it to him. Lucky for Anderson, the 8th grader Conley got in foul trouble or it could have gotten a lot worse. I can see why your Parent/Friend said that they looked like crap. Well there was a reason for that, it's called scouting and putting together a defensive plan to stop a good team. I will agree with you on one thing--It's getting ready to be a dogfight.
  10. Sorry--I never give coach of the year to coaches that have all the talent each and every year. Easy to win when you have all the best players. You should win district and regional titles. I look for a coach that doesn't have what everybody else has and wins. Spencer County may lose their first district game, but that will in no way take away from my belief that at this point NO coach has done more with what they have. Sorry that's just how I look at things. Secondly, I give all kinds of credit to the two seniors Daniel Wheeler and Bryson Cannon. They are the heart and soul of our team this year, however, when they graduate we have kids that are going to slide into their spots and there should not be a drop off. With the maturation of the younger kids mixed in with the junior class next year will be the year when it gets really exciting for Spencer County. Also, still think that Oldham is not clear cut favorite when everyone is healthy. That win over Trinity kind of lost it's luster when I saw that two starters did not play. Finally, I don't think Anderson is in trouble. The team I watched play last night is a very good and dangerous team. Friday night against Collins might change some views.
  11. If I were ranking the region it would be as follows with everyone being healthy: South Oldham Collins Oldham Spencer County Anderson Walton Verona Just my 2 cents.
  12. BigVMan23, Don't mean to be disrespectful but when you start your thread with the following quote "Things are not good in the 'Burg when AC loses to Spencer County...and at home of all things." Then you clearly don't know what kind of team Spencer County has this year. Maybe you need to give Spencer County a little more credit. You are correct about the lineup being full of 8th graders and sophomores. Maybe...Just maybe those kids I've been talking about since this summer are the real deal and Anderson is not that bad. Your premise is that if Anderson lost to lowly Spencer County at home then they are clearly horrible is ridiculous. Come watch Spencer County play and you might feel a little better about Anderson County. The game was back and forth, both teams had to play with severe foul trouble. Penny probably should have fouled out early in the third quarter. He kept barreling over everyone and the refs wouldn't call a charge. I was kind of mocked on here when I made some comments back during the summer, but what I saw this summer led me to believe that Spencer was a contender and they haven't proven me wrong yet. The kids on that team are VERY good and to top it off they have what I think is the best coach in the region coaching them. Anyway, no disrespect, but your comments show me that you have not watched Spencer County play and Anderson is still a top 5 team in the region who could beat ANYONE on a given night.
  13. Those refs were horrible for both sides. The 8th grader Whitlock took three blatant charges on Penny and they wouldn't call it. The Anderson County people sitting around me looked down and smiled. Penny should have fouled out early in the third. It was almost comical. Penny just kept putting his head down and ran over people. Spencer was very lucky to get out of there with a win. Coach Burns needs to start getting a mention for 8th region coach of the year. He took a very young team into that environment and got the win.
  14. Thanks! Heck of a game. Very proud of the Bears. Hard to win at Anderson County.
  15. Didn't mean to hurt your feelings. If Spencer wins tomorrow night they have an excellent shot with only Shelby left. I've been laughed at on here all basketball season, but guess what--Spencer County keeps getting better and winning. I said two weeks ago that they would end up being a top 5 team in the region by the end of the season and it looks like they are already right there. They will have everything against them tomorrow night. Playing at Anderson (huge homecourt advantage) and with a very young team. No matter what happens it looks like Anderson will be playing Spencer in the first round on a neutral court. I'll take Spencer County. And you can save this post. Like I said--didn't mean to ruffle your feathers.
  16. What is the tie breaker for the district number one seed if three teams are 2-1 and head to head evens out?
  17. I like Spencer over Anderson on a neutral court. Time will tell.
  18. I haven't seen the stat sheet yet, but I will post. He fills up the stat sheet. Hard to believe what he is doing as an 8th grader. Elite athletic gifts.
  19. 8th grader Sam Conley took over this game. The kid is special!! Spencer County vs Anderson County Tuesday night. We should learn alot from this game.
  20. Anxious to see Anderson next week against Spencer County. Haven't seen them yet.
