O.K. first off--how can you mention a player that never played the whole year as that being a factor. They never played and aren't going to play. Do you know how many teams can say "what if" about players. Unfortunately that kid was hurt all year and will not play this year. Secondly, out of the 10 wins that WV has in the region 7 of them are against the following Eminence, Owen, Carroll, Williamstown, Grant, Trimble, Anderson. Check out the records of those teams. I believe WV has played the most bottom feeders out of anybody in the 8th. When I look at the actual GOOD teams that they have both played it becomes pretty clear who the better team is: Collins played several of the top teams in the 6th region (best region in KY). Last week a overtime loss to Doss (number 7 in the state). We could go on and on, but I think Collins wins 7 out of 10.

I would have to disagree with your comparison of South Oldham, Simon Kenton, Gallatin, and Spencer County.You didn't mention that Spencer County lost to South Oldham on a shot at buzzer without their best player playing on South Oldham's home Court. Simon Kenton lost to South Oldham with three of their starters missing so I'm confused as to why Simon Kenton would jump back over Spencer? You mentioned Spencer County's closer than expected score against Rock Creek, but Spencer was up 27 starting fourth and emptied the bench playing mostly JV the entire fourth quarter. Think about this--5 of Spencer's 7 losses were without their best player and they were all close games with three at the buzzer. Just my opinion and we all have one but Spencer should be above SK and Gallatin. Enjoy reading your analysis!

I would take McKnight. He might be the most important player on that team. A guard that can get you 20 rebounds.

Just because you play in those tournaments doesn't mean you beat the top competition. The all A tournament is not on par with the other two. We were comparing Collins and WV. Collins last week lost in overtime to Doss. Doss is considered one of the top teams in the state and WV lost by 20 to them. If you go down the lineups Collins is a much stronger and deeper team. While WV played some good teams their schedule is LOADED with cupcakes. Didn't WV play through the losers bracket at King of The Bluegrass?

I compared common opponents and it was a wash for Collins. If you haven't seen Collins play they have more weapons than anybody in 8th. Just a difference of opinion. I think if both are playing at their best WV would be in trouble. We shall see real soon.

How did they do against the higher level competition?? Collins was competitive in all of their's with a chance to win. Doesn't matter how big the school is when deciding where to rank them. I was asked to show how I could possibly compare their resumes. Well I think it's pretty obvious that there really isn't a comparison. Based on strength of schedule and performance against that schedule Collins has done a lot better. As mentioned earlier, we are getting ready to find out. Like it or not WV schedule is pretty weak compared to other contenders. Especially compared to Collins.

Well let's see. You mentioned the month of February. Here is who Collins has played: St. X Lost by 8 (just upset Fern Creek) Bullitt East lost by 8 (has played several of the top teams in the 6th region close) Oldham County lost by 3 Desales Win Doss lost by 4 in overtime (top team in 6th region) Walton Verona has wins against these teams in Feb. Williamstown Grant County Trimble County Lloyd Memorial St. Henry Walton Verona's schedule alone is enough to give me doubt. Pretty weak. I would argue that Collins has played the top schedule in the state. They are bound to be beaten up and tired after playing murder's row. I'm a Spencer County fan so don't think I'm a homer for Collins, but they have more weapons than any team in the 8th region AND have played the top schedule so that boads well for them in the playoffs. Finally when you look at common opponents Collins lost in overtime to Doss and WV lost by 20. Collins beat SK by 13 and WV beat them by 3. Gallatin County did beat Collins earlier in the year, but Collins was missing some key football players so that is a wash. I think this might explain my opinion a little better.

Hint: Collins Oldham WV Spencer County Gallatin I know Collins lost to Oldham without their point guard, but who else has played the schedule they have the past three weeks? I would say they are tired and beat down .

There are two teams in the 8th region that are better than Walton Verona in my opinion--Oldham County and Collins.

Maybe you misunderstood my logic. One game is understandable, but two recent games they have played against top teams without their best players have resulted in losses. Collins has played one of the toughest schedules I have seen. I would say they are probably worn down. Not a Collins fan just the facts. Actually the loss to South Oldham minus three starters is the biggest red flag on SK. Still hard to fathom.

I can't get over Simon Kenton losing to South Oldham with three of their starters missing. I just don't see how that could happen if your a legit contender. Then they just lost to Oldham. Oldham didn't have their best player. I've not seen for myself, but hear the coaching isn't great at Simon Kenton.

I would say the pressure is on Shelby--They don't want to face Collins. If I did my math correctly it would be better for Spencer to lose tonight and hold Shelby under 49 points. Then Spencer would play Shelby County in the first round and Anderson would play Collins. I don't think Spencer County has much pressure. If they play the way they have been playing it will be a blow out. Shelby has three wins in a row, but against nobody. Shelby has trouble scoring and Spencer is one of the top defensive teams in the region. Not a good combination for Shelby County. Shelby is hot?? Spencer County has the longest winning streak in the region. Pump the brakes my friend.

Spencer County has five freshmen playing varsity. Would have been interesting to see how they would have done if they all played on the freshmen team.

On an earlier thread about the top freshmen in the 8th region I mentioned that there were some freshmen that can play both sides of the ball. I'm getting the idea that Niece is a pure scorer and not great defender. Is that true?

If memory serves me correctly--Since Spencer County High School became a school in 1983 they have been to the region 3 times. In 2011 they made it to the regional final to go to RUPP. I believe I am correct on that. As far as Shelby County is concerned--they struggle to score and Spencer County is a VERY good defensive team. I just think it's a bad matchup for Shelby County, but anything is possible as we have seen this year. Spencer County is playing their best basketball right now.

They will have to beat Spencer County in the first round of the districts. Spencer still plays Shelby, but it would be a huge upset if Shelby beat Spencer County. Interesting to compare scores. Collins, Spencer, and Gallatin all played Anderson in the past two weeks and all three won by 12. I don't know if you can read into that, but interesting.

If what I heard is true I would be surprised if the player you mentioned plays another game this year. Spencer County isn't just Conley. I believe they had five players in double figures last night. PRP had the athleticism at every position. It was coaching and desire.

I know I'm biased, but when I talk about great coaching I look at a coach who doesn't quite have the talent as everybody else and still wins games. When people talk about coach of the year they always vote for the guy whose team is loaded with talent and has lots of wins. When you have the best talent year after year you should win. Coach Burns is winning with two freshmen in the starting lineup. If Sam Conley had not missed the first 7 games. Your looking at a team that could be 19-2. Five of those losses were single digits and three were last second losses. Burns has my vote as 8th region coach of the year. Desire and coaching won that game for Spencer County.

Spencer County overcame some absolutely horrible refereeing.
