Belfry finished regular season 9-1 and dominated their playoff path: Big wins in the first two rounds, followed by a 41-14 quarterfinal victory over Breathitt County. I think OC still wins, but this game may be closer than expected if the weather holds out. Supposed to be rainy on Friday, which plays into the physical play of Somerset's offense. Somerset's only chance is to control the clock and get a few key turnovers. It's gotta be an ugly game.

LCA has been fighting an injury bug all year, but for the 1st time in over a month, they have everyone healthy. For a lot of folks, this game has been circled since RPIs were finalized and will be one of the best 3rd round matchups in the state. Believe it or not, this is only the 5th game between Mayfield and LCA. The series is tied at 2 and 2. I believe this is the 1st time Mayfield has played at LCA?

This matchup pits two evenly matched records against each other, but LCA comes in with arguably the toughest regular-season schedule in 2A. LCA finished the regular season at 7-3 and cruised through the first round with a 35-13 win over Metcalfe County, scoring the first 35 points before easing off. Monroe County also went 7-3 in the regular season but had a nail-biter in round one, edging out WEB DuBois 29-28. Key team stats: LCA has averaged around 32 points per game offensively, with a balanced attack. Defensively, they've held opponents to under 20 PPG on average. For Monroe County, they've put up similar offensive numbers (about 30 PPG), but their defense allows 22+ PPG. Both teams have two of the top dual-threat QBs in 2A. Pertinent players: For LCA, keep an eye on senior WR/DB Tyler King (44 receptions, 666 yards, 9 TDs; 16 tackles, 2 INTs on defense—he's a game-changer on both sides and was named District Player of the Year). Sophomore QB Nash Whelan is a true dual-threat: In 11 games, he's thrown for 1,795 yards (114/172, 66.3%, 21 TDs, 4 INTs) and rushed for 716 yards on 96 carries with 11 TDs. Junior LB Aiden Lyons (61 tackles) and sophomore Thomas Siexmore (60 tackles) anchor the defense as the top tacklers. For Monroe County, senior QB Branson Williams is a dual-threat (103/167, 1,411 yards, 13 TDs, 4 INTs passing; 141 rushes for 945 yards and 13 TDs rushing). Senior RB/SS Brayden Baxter is a workhorse in the run game (89 rushes for 593 yards and 8 TDs, plus 74 total tackles on defense), while senior OLB/MLB Caden Geralds anchors the defense (80 total tackles). Prediction: LCA wins 42-17. The Eagles have home-field advantage, they've faced better competition, and beat WEB DuBois 42-13 in the regular season. LCA's balanced offense led by Whelan's passing and running should exploit Monroe's secondary, and their defense will contain the Falcons. Expect a competitive first half, but LCA pulls away in the 3rd quarter. What do you all think?
