  1. Congrats to the Blessed Sacrament duo of Grant Disken (1st team) and Jay Jackson (2nd team) for making the KBA All State tournament team.
  2. Well it's all wrapped up now. Now all of the 8th graders got bumped to varsity we got at least one more week to wait. It looks like the season will get started in late March battling for borders. I personally, excited to see the new Louisville Magic 8th grade team take the court.
  3. Does anyone know if KHSAA has a rule that requires varsity rosters to be frozen? I'm asking for an 8th grader that was just asked to start practicing with varsity. But, I'm not aware of the roster rules.
  4. With middle school ball over this thread should get going pretty soon.
  5. I've followed their season a little and was hoping to get to watch them play. Congrats on a great season! Just goes to show there are great basketball players all over this state.
  6. Blessed Sacrament showed pretty well in this event. The only team to beat them was North Pulaski (beat BSac twice) who cruised to the 3rd title for this class. North Pulaski won the championship over Morton by 16 which is the same margin they beat Blessed Sacrament by on Friday. Those were the two lowest margins of victory North Pulaski had all tourney.
  7. I think it's an 89 team field. Considering the Sunday rule, I was surprised to see Boone Co being represented so well and Camp Ernst not being one of them. Teams that are playing Campbell Co Conner Gray Beechwood BSac
  8. 8th grade state tournament schedule. It looks like Blessed Sacrament has a nice opening round game vs North Pulaski the two time defending state champ. Looking forward to watching Jackson and Disken matchup with Colten Fraley. Fraley has been ranked as one of the best guards in Kentucky for a couple years. They also have two 6'5" kids. Jake Sloan who was also on the Ky Football Allstar team is one of the better bigs in the state. Best of luck to BSac!
  9. No. Low post work. I only had one player from my team there. Just some specialized low post work.
  10. Last Friday I was doing some low post work with some 8th graders we had 3 and needed a 4th. Already had 3 8th graders at the time. 6th graders wouldn't have matched up with 6'3 215# or 6'7" 220 pound players. Ended up filling it with and 8th grader. But having said that. Now, I'm looking for a 6th grade Power Forward or an athletic long Forward and also a Center.
  11. Can someone tell me who the top 7th grade interior big men are in the area? I've got a nice training opportunity and need to fill a couple spots. But they need to be interior players.
  12. Now that I think about it. I don't think we can even use a BC gym for practice on Sunday's because of the same rule.
  13. Yes they finished in the final four I think. Camp Ernst is being told they are NOT allowed to play.
  14. I hope that is the truth. But, I know that Camp Ernst has talked about attending but said the rule was preventing them. That being said, Conner 7th grade played yesterday. Maybe you're correct.
  15. I'm looking forward to that event. Some great teams going to be there. I'd like to know why more NKY teams don't go to that. I know Boone Co. has some stupid rule that prevents them from participating.
  16. Most teams will be formed by the end of February. I've seen several try-out flyers with dates as late as the first week of March. Keep in mind the real club level season doesn't really kick off until the end of March.
  17. I mentioned Jay Jackson on hear a while back after i witnessed him going (If I recall correctly) 12/13 from three range in two games. Jay is a strong guard who like to compete with boys bigger than him. He's not going to beat anyone with his speed but the combination of skills makes him one of the top players in the area. He can get to the basket with his left hand better than any other right handed player I've seen in the area. I was fortunate to get to coach Grant some last summer as AAU wrapped up. He's a John Stockton type player. The best way to describe him is "crafty". Contrary to Jay; Grant does not flourish for BSac like Jay does. Compared to BSac's slower pace, Grant is a much better player in a fast paced game where he has freedoms of movement and passing. Jay on the other hand does well in both. Last summer I had several players out as AAU wrapped up. With out having a practice we entered an 8th grade event. (We were 7th) Grant was running the point and I had another sub playing the post. Before the first game we drew up a simple pick and roll offense. We went with Grant and Kevin Centers in a two guard set and Smith (Other sub) playing the high post. Grant and Kevin teamed up to run the pick and roll beautifully. Grant was able to get hit players cutting to the basket like I'd never seen. If the defense backed off from he'd drill a mid-range shot nearly every time. But what impressed me the most. When defense went to a 2-3 Grant was still able to execute the same pick n roll offense. "Crafty" is the best way to describe him as a player. I'd love to know that schedule vs Our Lady of Victory. Those two teams had three mega battles last year. Out Lady has a really nice point guard as well. They are solid and just a step behind St.Susanna who's main 8th grade group is probably the best middle school team in Greater Cincy.
  18. I was at a game in Anderson and on the way home I was looking for a local game. I actually went to the RA site and must've over looked it.
  19. I was there as well last night and did not hear any name-calling. In fact I thought the crowd was kind of lame last night considering the two teams. Regarding Mayer: There's not another player taller than 6 foot in this area that I know of that can handle the basketball like him. I watched Evan Prater from Wyoming middle school on Monday night. He is a 6'1" point guard that is highly ranked in Ohio. You give me the option to pick either-or. I'd Pick Michael every single time. Other bigs are catching up to him physically but their skill set not.
  20. I think it is called parity. Any of these teams can beat others on a given night. It comes down to who gets the higher percentage of shots. There are many good teams with good players. Many players are just now developing and starting to ascend forward. I have seen StPius play twice this year. The first time was against Gray with out Mayer. They dominated with out Mayer winning by 3X. Last night Mayer was really good he did all he could. However, last night the game was controlled by Kevin Centers of Camp Ernst. If it were not for a couple of three's by StPius the game wouldn't have been as close. CE seemed to be in control of the game pretty much start to finish. The supporting cast at CE made a big difference. They were very aggressive in all aspects of the game and got many transition layups. Depth is another issue. Pius played 7 while CE played a core of 8. I've watched CE play the last two nights and can NOT recall ever seeing them as patient as they were last night. There were many half court possessions that they made 15 or more passes. Basketball is about making shots. Camp Ernst took shots in the paint while StPius took more three's. In the end the percentages won out.
