  1. Does anyone know anything about states that automatically push state champions up a class the next year? I'd be curious as to how this works.
  2. Fair enough. Classes based on standard deviations or a percentage away from the mean enrollment in the class could be interesting.
  3. Sometimes people lose at things. That is the nature of competition. I think 3 classes produces the most competitive, fun to watch playoff system, while also minimizing travel, and scheduling issues. Based on your logic, we should have an indefinite number of classes so everyone can be a winner.
  4. They have a great chance to compete but maybe not a great chance to win. That is the case for almost all teams in the state regardless of what class system we use. It is the South Warrens of the world who have the most to lose in a 3 class system because they go from an easy run to a championship in a watered down class to having to compete.
  5. Could you explain how a 12 class system hurts our kids? Or a 24. The lack of harm to kids doesn't make the system the best one.
  6. It doesn't bother me. I just think it's more fun to have the increased competition.
  7. I really like the idea of seeding the playoffs, but then the concern becomes the travel times. How would you account for that?
  8. Nobody is asking anyone to "turn in rings". The fact that 6 classes is watered down compared to 3 is not debatable. South Warren won class 4A last year. Do you think they would win the biggest class in a 3 class system against T, X, BG, Scott County, Male etc? That doesn't mean they aren't a fantastic team just that 3 classes inherently increases competition to win the championship.
  9. Surprising they haven't worked out a scheme to make money off the semifinal games..
  10. I consider a blowout a running clock situation. Most of those games were not like that.
  11. Some of those issues are due to the limits of my geographical knowledge. Would love for posters with regional familiarity to clean up my districts, especially the east and western districts of the lower classes.
  12. Saying no matter what you do with class structure there will be blowouts and then using scores from the current, 6 class system to illustrate your point seems like circular logic. If you cut the class structure in half and reduce the number of playoff teams to 16 per class (or 8 if you want), it seems clear that the competition level will increase.
  13. The key phrase in your post is "current districts". Outside of district play, scheduling has become a nightmare in this state. Teams are traveling crazy distances. Having these large, geographic based districts solves that problem.
  14. Those teams could always petition to play up. Trinity is the only one that is a different animal. I don't think the structure of the entire football class system should reflect needs that in reality, only Trinity has.
  15. Why does teams not making the playoffs matter? You get 10 guaranteed games a year. That seems like enough.
  16. I get what you're saying about rivalries, but only 4 districts out of 24 have 11 teams, so almost everyone would have 1 or more games they could use to schedule a traditional rivalry opponent. I did not try to force uniform district sizes as it would have caused geographic issues.
  17. The biggest districts actually only have 11 (that way everyone can play each team) I think less playoff teams is a good thing. Makes regular season mean more, eliminates the crazy blowouts and painful travel of the first round, and makes it clear that making the playoffs is a reward for an accomplishment (not a given based on how many teams are in your district)
  18. High School Football season could stand to be shorter, but not for basketball. I'd like to see football start two weeks later. Honestly, I'd be fine with only taking the winner of each district.
  19. If top two teams from each district made playoffs, that shaves 1 week off playoffs.
  20. Impressed by how quickly Shelby has come back after the damaging split with Collins.
  21. Very excited to watch the offers role in for the big boys on this team!
