Shelby County Rockets - 2015 Grade

Featured Replies

B-

Shelby County never faced much opposition in 2015, which I think contributed significantly to their 12-2 record for the season. Their only regular season loss came at the hands of Franklin County, who couldn't make it out of the first round of the 4A playoffs. 4A champs South Warren finished off the Rockets' season, beating them 36-6.

Do you agree with B- for Shelby County? What grade do you give the Rockets?

Wasn't this team picked last in the their district at the beginning of the year? If I am correct on that, I give them a B to B+.

If viewed purely from a high school football standpoint, noting their relatively weak regular season non-district schedule, I'd say a B is fair, considering their monster district and brutal later round playoff opponents they had to face including John Hardin and South Warren.

If we take into account the adversity they had to overcome, going from being predicted to finish last in a stacked district to being State Semifinalists, beating Collins for the first time (twice), and offering a beautiful dual threat style of play, I'd say they are very worthy of a B+.

Throw out the loss at Franklin. Bad conditions and horrible clock operations and officials for both sidelines. I give an A-. Best 4A district in state, playoff road win and listen, SW was a machine and they lost at SW.

FCHS beat you guys soundly and left about 3 tds on the field dropped passes wide open in the end zone so, refs and clocks aside an L is an L!

However Shelby was very good and in the A range. They beat a lot of good teams and lost to the champion, about as good as you can do without winning a ring.

Give them an A. This team schedule has was what it needed to be because we are talking about a team that previously struggled. Bottom line is they won their district and made it to the Semi-finals.

My question what would they have to do to get an A? Beat Bama?

Look at it like this was there another team in the state that was picked last in their district (a 5 team district) so in essence picked to not make the playoffs. Then are dominant on their way to the state semifinals losing to the eventual state champ. When you look at it that way how can they not get an A.

Thank ya.

Impressed by how quickly Shelby has come back after the damaging split with Collins.

They had one player move in and make them a contender last year, the Manica kid at Running back was a difference maker. Solid 200 yds a game in their offense changes a lot.
