There we agree. They will be down next year but by no means a bust. They will still be a good team next year. Aside from Friday's game I usually am an eagle fan as well. These kids have grown up together and played ball together since they were little. I like the success that they are having and wish them well the rest of the year. So yes, even though they are rivals with my son's team, at least among the kids, there is only animosity one Friday night every fall. Kind of funny that we adults are the ones that get in a tizzy over it.

Excellent question. As far as the team goes, they are not horrible. Both the Adair and cville games were close halfway through the 4th quarter. Barren was a 12-6 loss. After Adair, Dudley blamed it on lack of conditioning. That is plausible. After Barren he said the boys didn't want it. They do seem to be getting better every week. It looks like the hardest part of the schedule will be over this week. After Green they get Larue and the district games. The district games look favorable. The toughest looks to be East Jessamine. It is not unrealistic for them to finish second in the district. That would give them a first round home game in the playoffs. In that scenario Dudley stays. The one thing that none of us have control over is politics. His hire was highly political. The super and Duds go way back. He is from Washington county originally and then after "retiring for health reasons at UPike" he was going to relax for the remainder of the season last year and then take over at Marion county this year. The Taylor super saw an opening and took it. It is interesting that in the process the super made himself an assistant coach. He was on the sideline or in the box every game with Dudley last year. This year I have only seen him on the sideline at the cville game. That is the political side of it that most at TC do not like. Unfortunately for the Dudley haters, TC has never been a football powerhouse. So even if Dudley doesn't win a state championship this year, it would take a lot for him to go. Rumor has it that when he was hired Duds told super that it would take 5 years to get a potential contender team together. It has only been one year at this point. But don't despair, the one wild card in this scenario is basketball. The success that TC has had in basketball may put pressure on Dudley to win sooner rather than later. Oh and don't forget Dudley's KHSAA transgressions. Those are really the only situations where I see Dudley not being at TC.

I fully realize how much work the juniors put in. They practice right outside my office window everyday. Now if you want to play the game that the seniors are not a special group I would be careful treading there. Yes the juniors work hard but 314 out of the 374 rushing yards against Taylor were from seniors. 27 of the 40 passing yards were to a senior receiver. On defense, seniors accounted for 63 of the 121 tackles (either solo or assisted). To say they won't experience a drop off next year would not be quite accurate. As for the cheap shots, I am not even going to go there. It was a rivalry game there were cheap shots on BOTH sides.

That has been my whole point in starting this thread. Be the bigger man. By what cville did, does not that not all but guarantee that next year without the talent that they have this year, Dudley will not try to hang a half a hundred on them? Would that be classless? Absolutely! But did they ask for it?

You definitely missed it. Cheap shots were being thrown on both sides. I do question the number of holding penalties called on cville though. That was until I went back to hudl to watch it. The most egregious was when a cville lineman had the d-end's shoulder pads up over his helmet. There is no question, Kendon has enough talent to break big runs without breaking the rules on the offensive line.

I would have to disagree. What the eagle fans need to realize is that this a special year for you. What is going to happen next year when Kendon and company are gone? Will you react the same way then? If Dudley did the same thing to cville next year, would the Dudley haters respond with "it's just part of the game?" I would think not, they would be going on about how unnecessary it was and how classless Dudley is. Anyone care to disagree?

I believe they did play some defense. It was close until about 6 minutes left in the game. The play in question was a 4th and goal from the 13 with 16 seconds left. Cville chose to heave into the endzone. It was a 50-50 ball that cville came down with. With such a small amount of time left, evidently Estes thought that was the only way to add points to the final tally. The overall question, was it necessary to add points? For all the Dudley haters, please do not forget, how many snaps did Dudley take Friday night? The kids are the ones humiliated not Dudley. Those kids have absolutely no say in who their coach is. They just want to play football. Why take out your hatred for a coach on the players?

Excellent question. I did not notice it personally whether he did or not. Was honestly too upset because of the cville antics at the end of the game. I am going on what a rabid cville fan had posted on another thread. Probably shouldn't take it as fact given the ax that everyone seems to have to grind with Dudley.

It is a very complex situation. I do like Harry's idea of playing local games that are significant to the players and fanbase. But on the other hand, scheduling is important. If you load up on cupcakes, you can get lazy. Granted it is hard to know who will be up and down in specific years, but you need to try to schedule at least a few significant games every year. One thing I do like about the way KHSAA sets up the playoffs in that only district games count. That does encourage scheduling a tougher schedule as it will not impact playoff seeding. The benefits are significant. Chances are it will be a four quarter game come November. If your starters and their backups are battle tested during the year, then conditioning does not become an issue when they have to play the whole game. While I think it is a bad idea to leave the starters in when the game is out of hand, I wholeheartedly agree that the JV kids need some varsity snaps. They are your future. A lot of programs have a very limited JV/Frosh program. Those kids will be counted on in the future. That can be the difference between reloading and rebuilding. Week 0 is a good example for this. Remember that it was 13-6 halfway through the 4th against Taylor. That game went further in getting the boys ready for November than the week 1 or 2 games.

Very simple. He is second in all time wins in Ky. The Taylor super has a coaching history with him. He knew Duds was available and the previous coach was struggling. Dudley is originally from Washington county and was slated to become Marion county's coach this season. The super wanted to get him before Marion did. All Taylor's people were told was about his winning history. Just now learning that he is probably the most hated man in KY HS football.

You all are correct. He has a history of such things. My note was intended to be a careful what you wish for situation. Classlessness tends to come back and bite you.

First off, congratulations to cville on the victory Friday night. As far as Dudley goes, the game was clearly over, yet cville with 16 seconds left threw a TD on no less than 4th and goal. To further add insult to injury a 2 point conversion was also tacked on. That lack of class is why Dudley did not shake hands. His players and assistants did though. On the previous thread, someone referred to "NOT KNOWING THE SITUATION." I am willing to bet that person does not have a kid that plays for Dudley. Thus, how could they know the situation themselves? As far as the game itself, Kendon had a great game as expected. He is a fine young man from a good family. I am looking forward to watching him on Saturdays next year. The problem with what happened Friday night is that we have lost sight that this is just a game. Some of these young men will go on to play in college but most will end their career as a senior in high school. These boys have grown up playing ball together since they were in elementary school. One previous post was right in that Dudley should show sportsmanship to his players. BUT so should Estes. The problem is that cville should enjoy this year as it is looking like a special year for the eagles. What happens next year when Kendon and a lot of their current talent is lost to graduation? Don't think for a minute that Dudley won't retaliate in a similar manner if given the chance. This is not going to lead to anything positive.

Very true the defense has struggled this year. Part of it is scheme, the bigger part is lack of personnel to execute the scheme. Last week against cville, one of the defensive ends was assigned to Kendon. He ended up rushing for over 200 yards.

That is how Taylor ended up with Hilton. Their super does have some old school football ties. He knew Hilton was available from Pikeville. The previous coach, while not highly successful in the W column was a fine man that tried to help the kids become fine men (he was at Adair before going to Taylor). He started last season 0-3 and the third loss was a blowout to cville. Cook knew Hilton was available and that Taylor was struggling so he pulled the trigger and brought Hilton in. In fairness to Hilton, he did go 4-3 for the remainder of the regular season. What was interesting, as part of this process, Cook made himself a default coach. He was either in the box or on the sideline for most of Hilton's games last year. Not sure if he has been relieved of his "coaching" duties this year. It is interesting though. Given what we did to Taylor the first game of the season, I am fully expecting cville to take Taylor to the shed Friday. We scrimmaged cville and played Taylor. Based on those two experiences, Taylor should get embarrassed Friday night. If they do, they will be 0-3 again to start the season with a drubbing by the cross town rival (as well as the KHSAA trouble). The irony, to me anyway, given the exact same situation as last year, what will Cook do?

This one should get ugly quick. Taylor doesn't have the speed to keep up with cvilles athletes. Cville should be able to name their score in this one. On defense, if cville loads the box, TC hardly ever passes successfully, it will be a long night for the cards. Running clock before halftime isn't completely out of the question. It looks like TC drops to 0-3 for the second straight year.

You are correct on the can't play basketball until football is over rule

The format is always two games Friday and two games Saturday. Last year Campbellsville played Friday night and Taylor played Saturday night. This year I believe they are reversed with Cville playing Saturday and Taylor playing Barren on Friday night. It is a great venue for a HS football game. The official address is 1 University Drive but then again that is the address for the entire university. It is a relatively small campus so if you can get to the campus you will be able to find the stadium very easily. If it helps the stadium cross-streets are Chandler Ave and Underwood St (confusing but Underwood is also known as Tiger Way).
