  1. Timing is not his strong suit.....he may be a good coach, but he has a way of leaving teams in a lurch.
  2. They only lost three seniors, and could be better without them. They may lack some leadership but do have some skills. They should be physically stronger and faster. They have a couple of young kids in the middle but they are big and strong, certianly an area they have been lacking in the past.
  3. Well Stated; I think that the people of Clay kind of refuse to see it that way. Had the "Coach" moved on or took a less public stance at games, and threw his support to the program no matter who the coach they may have gotten of few more applicants.
  4. Great Game to watch. Whitley leads thoughout the game but Middlesboro comes back in the top of the 7th and takes the 4-3 lead. Whiltey gets the lead off on with an error by the Jacket SS, gets the runner in a rundown off a pickoff throw but the Jackets blow the easy out by throwing the ball away. Whitley ends up loading the bases off a walk and a hit batter and the third baseman hits a ball back up the middle shading the SS and Whitley scores two runs for the win. Looks like Middlesboro has now fallen off the map.
  5. Whitley hung 22 on Barton.....I guess he had a bad day.
  6. Whitley can hit with anyone, but cannot field the ball, eight errors gave the game to Corbin. Whitley actually outhit Corbin 14-9 and if not for a good catch in right field on the last play of the game Whitley wins. Corbin is now (with apoligies to cards1b21) in the Catbird seat with the win.
  7. I would have serious doubts about South Laurel right now but that all could change, Like I said earlier, sit back watch some games and get a feel for the teams, but I think you do have to add Whitley to the list, they can score alot of runs.
  8. At this point in the season, after having watched several games, I think it is fair to say that Corbin and Whitley both are going to be contenders. South is only averaging about 3 runs a game and unless their defense and pitching improves dramaticly it will be tough to win many games.
  9. Scoring: Whitley County 11.6 scoring per game Whitley Coutny 6.0 opponents per game....Winning Margin +5.6 Corbin 6.02 scoring per game Corbin 6.71 opponents per game.....Winning Margin -.64 South Laurel 3.3 scoring per game South Laurel 6.8 opponents per game........Winning Margin -3.5 Williamsburg 5.0 scoring per game Williamsburg 8.46 opponents per game.......Winning Margin -3.46 Whitley County is the only district team with a positive winning margin at this point in the season while South is scoring the least per game and Williamsburg is giving up the most runs per game.
  10. Corbin gets the sweep with the win on the road. This sweep could put Corbin in the drivers seat in the 50th, while it puts South Laurel behind the "8 Ball"
  11. 1. Corbin 2-0 (19-7) 1. Whitley County 2-0 (32-4) 4. Williamsburg 0-2 (4-32) 4. South Laurel 0-2 (7-19) Corbin and Whitley County jump out to an early lead in the district with sweeps in the first round of district games. Whitley has shown that they can score lots of runs against a suspect defense. Corbin shows some grit and hardnosed play. South has some serious work to do to get back into the top two while Williamsburg is looking at a huge gap to catch up with the top two. April 19th and 20th could decide the district if Corbin sweeps, if they split it could really get interesting. If Whitley sweeps, they would still have some work to do, with South still ahead of them. South could help themselves with a sweep of Williamsburg, while Williamsburg could salvage something with a sweep or a split.
  12. Congrats to Moses, an outstanding student/athlete! I look forward to seeing him have success at the next level.
  13. Well thought out and concise post. I think that if Corbin continues on the route they are on, then they will definately have a say in who wins the district and region. South really looks to be struggling to score runs. I think Ledington is one of the better coaches around and will have his team contening ssoner than later
  14. Hot Dogs at Corbin.... Hamburgers at South Laurel.... Chili Pie or Bar-B-Q at Whitley..... As far as the coaches go I think I would add John Smith to the list, although the cupboard is awfully bare at Bell this year.
  15. I don't have a problem with the list, I think it is just as easy to say who has the best coaches and work from there. Take it easy and relax, you have your opinion and I have mine, its all just speculation at point in any event. I would rather sit back watch some games and then make an informed decision. The more important question is this: Who has the best concession stand? and Why?
  16. Good Points, Player development has not been the best in the past, and it has reared its head again. Obviously you know some back ground on Lebanion which explains his lack of development in basketball. I think the fact that he is planning on playing college football may explain some of it too. I think if they leave Baker alone he will have some success, also he needs to keep his Whitley kids at Whitley which has also been a problem in the past. Whitley needs to graduate 3-5 senior every year, and honestly they have not which has hurt the growth of that program. As far as the size goes outside of a kids like St. John I think it is over-rated in the 13th. If you block out and work hard you get rebounds, I think that Wilson was the best rebounding guard in the region and he was vertically impaired to a certian point.
  17. I think that the as a whole the 13th region could come down to who is playing well at the end of the season. However younger teams need to gain confidence and pitching is questionable at best for some of the "contenders." At this point to name favortites is absolutely shooting in the dark.
  18. I would think that Whitley 4th is about right although the loss of Cody Miller by KC is much more than what Whitley lost even with it being the loss of three seniors. I think that Gilbert (SL) Watkins (SL) Wardrup (NL) Mitchell (CC) Hogue (HC) did much more for their teams than Greene did for his, his defense was suspect as best, and he was all about the scoring. Yes he had talant but much of it was unrealized. I think that Gilbert and Watkins in particuliar got much more out of their talant than did Greene. Hogue may have gotten the most of anyone in the region from his talant and I have a ton of respect for a kid who works that hard. No doubt that Greene could score but what else did he really do for his team? Just my opinion, I like team play much more that individual play, no matter how good you are as an individual.
  19. I was surprised to see Blaine Green ranked so high, his team only won four games and yes he did have a great scoring ablility, but great players should make their teams better. Everyone of the other 4 in the top five could make that arguement. I think Whitley should have been ranked somewhat higher, although they lost three seniors, they return the core of their team. They defeated Bell, and played KC to overtime at Knox Central. Whitley does not have the tradition of the other schools but they are making progress and next season should be a breakthrough season for them.
  20. I am king of the diamond, bring me a grand club house feast with the finest meats and cheeses in all the land.......:dancingpa
  21. Kind of off the subject but I was wondering why you did not complain about sending money to the East/West All Star game but complained mightyly about the payment to the Border Bowl. 200 verses 300???? Funny and I don't mean HAHA. I think the teams that were selected should at the very least be recognized in some way, given jerseys and rings or something along those lines, maybe a banquet?
  22. Interesting score, nice win for the Jumpers.
  23. Rob Ledington is a good coach and will get things going for the Hounds. At the end of the year nobody but Middlesboro will remember this one.
  24. Whitley will be pretty good, Corbin will be pretty good, and South will be pretty good, and I think what that amounts to is that the road to to the 13th region title will go through the 50th, which could have 3 of the top 5 teams and it is within the realm of possiblity that they could have the top three teams. I think Clay will be a team to deal with, and Bell will be pretty good. North loses a heck of alot, Jackson will be a year older and should be better, Bell could be a serious contender, and although Harlan returns a bunch and Barbourbville returns alot, I don't see them being serious contenders. The real team to watch may be Knox Central.
