  1. The cones were great, but now I have to work off all the calories that I consumed...but it was worth it.
  2. Honestly I thought Corbin played harder all game long and never gave in. A couple of walking calls were missed, but I thought that they let Smith and Taylor ride Euton early in the game. Goaltending I do agree with, it should have been called. All that together would not have made a difference except in the margin. I understand that tourney are called different than the regular season but there is no excuse for missing some of the calls I saw missed. I was a bit shocked at the Technical foul on Manns but I was not close enough to hear what was said and coupled with the slamming of the ball (does not matter how high it goes) I would bet that the official was not going to shown up by the player. Corbin had a great season and that will be remembered in years to come by the players more than the loss itself. Remember only one team in the state of Kentucky finishes with a win.
  3. Mentor vs Player Never tell anyone everything you know becuase then they know everything you know and everything they know....
  4. There would be a lot more I would have to know about the situation before I could make a valid judgement. If he "retired" and never coached again, I really could not question that. If he "retired" and then tried to get another job, I might have some thoughts on that, that would include gutless, and self-doubting. Sometimes coaches mask the fact that they are very limited in their abilities with better talant that sometimes comes through the system. I know of a coach who was on the ropes and was able to keep his job (by the skin of his teeth) and won for a couple of years, the future can only tell what this "coach" will do.
  5. Congrats to Wilson on a great season and the POY honor. He is a well deserving player who embodies what high school sports is all about. Certianly there were some other impressive players in the 13th region but none could measure up to the high standard that was set game in and game out by the winner. Also congrats to Tony Peitrowski, many thought that Corbin would be down.... and what did the Coach do, just a return trip to Rupp. Congrats and good luck in the Sweet 16.
  6. I think that for most of the year the other players for South just waited around for St. John to make a play and when he played hard he was almost impossible to stop. But many of the times I saw him he did not play hard the whole game and seemed to get in foul trouble becuase he was not playing hard. Gilbert and Watkins both really stepped up later in the season but shooting from the outside is a tough way to make a living and in the end that was what stopped the South run in the region.
  7. With the games being at the arena I think that more casual fans are attending since they don't have to deal with "split" sessions and knees in the back , etc. I would guess that records for 13th region attendence will be set today for the boys games...they should be dandys.
  8. I will say this, after the first night (girls) I was disappointed in the atmosphere, but after the Corbin/Bell epic, I must say the atmosphere was great for the kids the fans and everyone. I was against the arena at the start then went to a game and it was okay and I still say the could tweak some things and make it better but like everything else it is a learning experience, but now I must say I like it there and the Arena is where it should stay. Besides all that I really don't like driving to Harlan just to watch games as a casual fan.
  9. :thumb::thumb::thumb: To say much more than that is well.....:deadhorse:
  10. No the kids did not make shots, but ultimately success or failure falls to the coach and the post season is the ultimate measuring stick of a coach and Rob Jones has failed on a regular basis in the post season. Jones may have had a good game plan but it obviously did not work, and he did not successfully make any adjustments....being well prepared is one thing being able to change you game plan on the fly and win....pricless. Any coach worth his salt takes credit for failures and to blame it on kids is bush. The regular season is just that...regular, and means nothing. A district title is nice, but a region trophy is better, and the Sweet 16 is the best, and McCreary clearly had the best overall talant in the region but they failed again, I gotta think that the coach has a lot to do with that.
  11. I would agree with this more than ever now after being at the arena and hearing some of the comments, but like I said I think it is there to stay and just needs some adjustments, which could be very simple and with no cost which would improve the atmosphere. I certainly don't have all the answers but I think if you could get reps from the schools together and talk about what shortcoming they witnessed then they could be addressed and improved upon in the future....BUT honestly there are some schools that they had the golden key they would still not be happy simply because it is at the arena.
  12. I think he is going to be a good head coach at some point for some school. He was in the mix for the Knox Central job last year when Evans was hired. He coached South for two games this year when Wright was sitting out his suspension. He has been with Wright for sometime time now and appears to be a up and comer in the world of coaches. He is still young and I am not sure he could handle of program such as South at this time, but at some point he will be ready, just still a little green.
  13. Since I ate prior to going to the game (planned, so not as to have to take a morgage on my house) I did not use the concession stand, I cannot comment on the prices. I will say this, I just flat did not like the tourny there, ZERO atmosphere. I was sitting six rows up from the floor and felt like I was in the upper arena at Rupp. I was just too far from the floor to even feel like I was even there. At Rupp at least when you are up high, there is a large crowd to bring atmosphere. I was looking at the folks across the way (no I did not use binoclulars although it would have helped) they did not seem to be "into" the game either. There are some positives, no split sessions, nice chair backs for everyone, clean, well lighted, parking was a breeze, and exiting after the game was easy. I think the tourny is there to stay so I guess we will just have to make the best of it, maybe with some adjustments it can be made better.
  14. I think you are right, but Wright does lose 4 good seniors and I know he looked at another job prior to this season, but did not want to up root his son who is a senior at SL. I know he is looking for another challenge, which I had heard him say several times and his assistant (not roscoe denny) is really pushing him to retire or move on...could be the right jog at the right time?
  15. 26 free throws for Corbin, 15 made.......3 for South, 3 made.......margin of victory for Corbin 1 point. I am no mathemagician, but Corbin got a gift.
  16. So was Alabama........And they still are. Lynn Camp has a nice team, I don't see Barbourville being the best team in that district. Barbourville lost to Whitley twice and KC beat them and LC would not even play them....In my mind KC was the best team with the best individual player.
  17. And upon further review.... The fact that he destroyed his own home to send a message shows just how short sighted and ignorant he really is.
  18. As a small business owner I have used this several times and never had a problem and ALWAYS have my attorney review any finicial agreements. Yeah is cost me some money upfront but I can be assured that I am not going to lose on the backside, and I am within my personal means to uphold my end of the agreement. CPAs and Attorneys cost money but not using them can cost a heck of alot more. Owning a small business is a tough way to make a living but it can be done if you are wise enought to see your own shortcomings when it comes to certain areas of running the business.
  19. I would have to agree.......Many kids in the past could have played and stared at LC, stayed at Corbin and stood on the sidelines. Statements like the one above make one wonder about the motovation of the Knox BOE in ending the agreement with Corbin.
  20. Curling Rocks.....?!?!!!?!?!??!?!?!???????!!!!!!!!
  21. I think that both Corbin and Knox BOEs could be the losers in this battle. Both are going to spend large amounts of money and resources on fighting this battle. Which of course will translate into students losing. But there could be some winners, although not in Corbin or Knox County. I find it interesting that Knox BOE made the decision to not renew the agreement with Corbin when they also have agreements with Bell, Whitley Laurel, Barbourville, Williamsburg and other systems. If it were truely about money would they not end all the agreements? I think there is more to it. Corbin has the better school system between the two, but now Whitley is an attractive alternative rather than pay the tutition, and I have heard this from several parents who may end up with their children at Whitley or South, at least till the case is settled. Some say that education is all about effort implying that if a child tries he will do well and many times that is true, but you need the leadership from the administratioin and teachers, which looking solely at test scores they do not get get at Lynn Camp or Knox Central. While Corbin and Whitley continue to improve, they are both providing solid leadership in administration and in the class room, based soley on test scores. Put the petty differences aside and start focusing on the education of the students. If it is about money start cutting areas other than education and put the money in education and then you may see results which would not cause families such hardships as changing schools or paying tutition.
  22. Too many carries, you get worn down, without proper condtioning both off season and in season, even then you can over condition kids, and overwork them when there is not enough warm bodies to fill all the gaps and kids may have deadlegs....bang and big injury.
  23. Was bored so I got out and went to this game. I thought that Whitley showed some grit that I had not seen before, they did not fall apart when they were down 7-8 in the second half. Whitley had to make some shots and they did when they needed it. Harlan County is very athletic, but it looked like Whitley outhustled them several times and got some easy baskets. #14 and #24 are good shooters but I thought that #44 needed more touches in the offense for Harlan. Had he gotten more touches and shots I think Harlan could have pulled this one out. Lebanion had a good game for the Colonels and Akin made shot after shot, beyond that Butcher was the defensive stopper and seemed to get a stop when the Colonels needed it. Overall it was a very fun game to watch, and a good tune up for both teams. Good Luck to both teams as they enter the post season.
  24. Maybe the best three in the district.....Letcher, Harlan and Perry, Clay and Whitley will be down, and North is on the move up.....
  25. I think Coach Mitchell has done a great job, but as the injuries have mounted over the years, I think you have to look at new ways of conditioning and preparing in the off season. You have to make yourself stronger and guarding against injury. I know that some injuries cannot be avoided, but you can avoid some by better lifting and not over-working the kids which can be a problem at a small school like Lynn Camp. Also the game has changed and sometimes you have to "tweek" what you do, and although Mitchell has had great success over the years sometims he just not have the talant to line up and try and run over people with physical play. I think if Coach Mitchell would adjust his offense to his talant he could have more success this coming season.
