  1. I'll stick with Ryle to win it all. The only team you mentioned that maybe has a shot is Henry Clay. Depends on how the final brackets line-up. With none of the "Big 4" there, more teams with a chance to get to the final 8.
  2. OK - I'll bite - Are you nuts? Instead of 2 HS's in a given area (say county for example) you propose 8. I'll give you the fact that the buildings already exist and are already in operation. You're forgetting some major points. All those elementary schools would have to be retrofitted to handle HS Students. And don't forget about the athletic facilities. Any of those elementary schools or Jr Highs have a Calculus teacher? 2 Calculus teachers could handle all the classes at a large combined high school - your plan would mean finding 1 Calculus teacher at each school. Now multiply that out across all subjects. Do you see where this is going?
  3. I can think of many large schools that have a great sense of community. I don't think adding more smaller schools is a practical solution.
  4. this should probably get moved to the new AAU/select/club/travel sports section that the guru has graciously opened for all club sports
  5. I think so too. Makes sense. I'm thinking of possible school nicknames...
  6. you are correct - I transposed some numbers in reading that. Maybe go with another posters' suggestion and just have 2 mega-schools and become the first 7A schools in the state.
  7. It's 2pm and currently 70 degrees at CVG. But what does that mean? what. does. that. mean.
  8. If you have one hand in the oven, and the other in the freezer, according to the averages, you're good. Don't draw the wrong conclusion when using historical averages.
  9. That may be, but you are only reporting a record low temp. What's controversial about that? If I report Campbell County defeated NCC 21-20, I'm stating a fact. There's no controversy about the outcome.
  10. Cincinnati/NKY also set new record low of 50 at CVG. Why on earth is setting a new record low under "controversial issues?" Is someone arguing it wasn't cold this morning?
  11. Financial - cost per pupil goes way down. Improved test scores - it's easier to raise the scores and grades at 1 underperforming school than if they are spread out across 4 schools. Specialized faculty - ability for the exceptional student to excel in advanced classes, and for the student that needs extra help to get it. Accountability - studies show that in general, smaller schools and districts are held less accountable than larger ones. Higher faculty pay and benefits, lower faculty turnover. Expanded extra-curricular activities. Greater cultural diversity.
  12. You've just been appointed czar of all schools. You've seen the future 5 years from now and it's bleak. You must act now to close/combine/redistrict schools to make them stronger for the future. What would you do? My plan- Kenton County: Merge Holmes and Ludlow into Kenton Co North. Merge Dixie and Beechwood into Kenton County Central. Close Holy Family and St. Anthony. Boone County: Redistrict borders for more balance - Boone Co has 600 more students than Cooper. Be ready to build as population continues to grow. Campbell County: Merge Newport, Dayton, Bellevue, and Silver Grove into Campbell County North. Rename Campbell County to Campbell County South. Merge NCC and Brossart into Campbell County Catholic. Merge St. Thomas and St. Catherine Close St. Philip and St. Joe's Camp Springs
  13. All things considered, my popularity list based on a National scale, not just locally... 1. NFL. duh. 2. College Football. This is where baseball used to be. CF has grown from small pockets of intense interest to a National obsession. 3. College Basketball. Nothing unites the country like March Madness. 4. MLB. Unless you have a local team, you really don't care. 5. NBA. After LeBron, this is not must see TV anymore. 6. NHL. better demographics and ratings than NBA last year. Growing in popularity. Players aren't overpaid jerks. 7. PGA. Anyone watching past the majors? 8. NASCAR. Back to what it once was. Regional interest at best. The test is always this - will you watch a game between 2 teams you have no rooting interest in? Most will says yes to NFL, College Football, and College Basketball. After that, it gets thin.
  14. I agree with whomever stated recently that baseball has local pockets of interest, but it is failing on a national interest scale. Baseball has done a poor job promoting it's stars to a nationwide audience. That said, it's still in better shape than NASCAR, which in 10 years has gone from knocking on the NFL's door in popularity to obscurity.
  15. How much is that down compared to historical average? Are you saying only 2 Frosh came out for the team?
  16. The only way Ryle would play Cooper is in the championship. FYI - the Bluegrass pools have been have been revised as of today.
  17. Don't know. My guess is it's about depth. Every team has 2 or 3 really good players. Ryle and ND probably have more than that.
  18. Something tells me the Holy Cross and Brossart loyalists may call it something else . . .
  19. All of that, while not technically violating any rule, would seem to go against the spirit of the way things are set up by the Diocese. But I can't imagine NCC is the only school where this happens. I understand 8th graders are needed to fill out rosters in many sports at area high schools.
  20. I did some more digging on here for old posts and it looks like this topic has been somewhat covered before. St. Therese seems to be mentioned as a 2nd parish people can join without having to pay extra. So an 8th grader enrolled at IHM can have their family join St. Therese for "free'', still belong to IHM, but gain access to NCC. Doesn't that go against the feeder school idea?
  21. NCC tweeted last Thursday that "8th grade girls at one of our district parishes can try out for frosh vball next Tuesday" First - it looks like numbers are way down for NCC volleyball and they will have to fill their Frosh roster with 8th graders. But second, when they say "district parishes" does that mean the church or the school? I can see room for abuse if it's not the school. Could a girl attending St. Mary's school have her family join St. Catherine's parish and then be eligible to tryout for NCC, even though she's clearly enrolled at a school that supposed to feed into Brossart?
  22. If you changed the title to "AAU/Select/Club/Travel" you could include softball, soccer and volleyball too.
  23. Automatically implied in any state volleyball discussion.
  24. Yes, volleyball does need more attention, so it's up to you to tell us who will defeat Ryle in this tourney. Ryle won this tourney easy last year against the same teams in it again this year. I don't see any participating teams listed that will make me eat anything. Ryle is a very good team that happens to be stuck in the same region as an all-world team. Ryle would win the Region anywhere else.
