  1. Fouls occur in many different aspects of a game, not just on field goal attempts: handling the ball, rebounding, offensive fouls, ect. It also doesn't mean that an official(s) didn't call against a particular player. As referenced earlier, it sounds like Elkins was benched with 3 fouls. Boyle is an entirely different defensive team with him out of the game as the number of blocks would highlight. Again, I wasn't at the game, and I'm not saying the officiating was bad. I'm simply pointing out a flawed logic in a correlation between equal foul shots and good officiating.
  2. I find this idea to be a huge misconception among most basketball fans... Just because free throw attempts are comparable, doesn't mean that the officiating was good. I find a low percentage of games where the number of actual fouls committed are equal, especially when you have teams with different styles of play. I did not attend this game. I don't have an opinion on the quality of the officials, but to look at the number of free throws and say the officiating was fair and even is ignorant.
  3. Very impressed with Faulkner. I expected him to have Hager's numbers and Hager to have Faulkner's numbers. He may be an all time great before all is said and done.
  4. Agreed, East Jessamine has shown drastic improvement over the last few games. They were beaten handily by Boyle and Lincoln, but they were in the game in the first half. At this point I think Mercer has the edge with West not far behind. East can beat either team on a decent night. O'Bryan does a great job with his system, and I look forward to seeing if he can get his team in position to advance come district tournament time.
  5. Camryn and TJ played against Pulaski and looked awful. If East makes shots, they'll be tough to beat. They play a style of high risk, high reward. If they shoot a high percentage, they will be tough to beat. That is why it will be important to get the top seed in that district. The top 3 can go either way. You want to play Burgin in that district. You may be sent home early if you don't.
  6. Wayne will be fine. Wayne is still a top 4 team in the region. Their offense will be good enough to win most games in the region. The only teams that they shouldn't be favored by double digits in the region are Southwest, Lincoln, and Boyle. I see them winning all other game in the region handily. That's a tough two game stretch for anyone in the state, and while the game against Southwest was a lackluster performance, it's one game. A very tough, emotional game played after another tough, emotional game. Don't be so quick to give up on the big 3 at Wayne. They are proven winners.
  7. Heard Malik Dow enrolled at Mercer County and was in school today. Was told the Hager family is taking him in. Can anyone confirm?
  8. He did not want to step down. He was very excited to coach the kids that were coming back next year. I think the JV team, went 9-4 or 10-4 without 2 key sophomores and an 8th grader playing varsity only and another sophomore not being able to play at all, coming off injury. The trajectory for this team seemed to be in line with Boyle and Lincoln over the past several years. Boyle and Lincoln County's records before this year are comparable to Mercer's over the past four years. This year, Boyle and Lincoln's main talents were juniors, which is what Mercer County's will be next season. I could see Mercer having the same jump in quality of play next year as Boyle and Lincoln had this year. Hager and Faulkner having another year under their belt, possibly getting Drew Davis back from an injury that has sidelined him for the past two seasons, and teaming them up with a talented group of juniors and sophomores to be made it seem like the team is heading in the right direction. He also led them to two regional semifinals appearances in the four years he was at the helm. Best of luck to Coach Britt and the Mercer basketball players.
