With Cooper sweeping Ryle tonight following their loss to Scott does this shake things up?

First let me say I am stunned and admit I did not see this coming. That said, Congrats to the Lady Jags on an amazing night of volleyball.

A mid season poll is much like the score at halftime of a football game. Means very little. That said I am sure my opinions might upset a few people but then they are just opinions. 1-Ryle 2-NDA 3-St. Henry 4-Scott 5-Cooper Now my reasoning: You could speculate all day long about the number of times Scott/Cooper play each other but in the end this only happens once per year and this year Scott came from behind to win. St. Henry is a team I have not seen play....ever. So I will trust everyone's judgement that they are a solid 3rd. Having seen both Ryle and NDA play first hand and within a couple of days of each other I feel in spite of Ryle's record I feel a semi-healthy/healthy Ryle is the stronger team. I felt their hitters had more "fire" on the spike and were able to hit hard from more positions and more angles. All of this of course will mean nothing as I believe all these either face each other or at least face the most challenging part of their schedules. Either way it has made for one of the more interesting years of NKY volleyball in a long time.

Showcase complete and I have to say it was a very organized and well run event. True to his word Rick Bolus said that other than for lunch the girls would be in constant motion playing games, competing in contests and doing drills. He also said that the girls would sleep well last night. He was 100% correct. My daughter never stopped moving and was asleep on the ride home and hit the bed shortly after getting home. The girls: There were approximately 50 young ladies that attended the camp and came from all over KY, with several from OH, IN, AL and TN. Most of the girls were juniors or seniors with a solid mix of freshman and sophomores and 2 middleschoolers. All the girls were terrific athletes and represented themselves very well. I couldn't tell you where they rank but there was no slouch in this group. Many of the girls I recognized as top players from their HS teams and many I remember as top players from this past AAU season. The format: The girls were split into 4 teams and assigned a coach. While 2 teams participated in skills drills and shooting contests the other 2 teams participated in a 1hour game with a new rotation of girls on the court every five minutes, no timeouts, no halftime. This allowed the girls to go full out and not have to worry about running out of steam. This also promoted a lot of scoring and gave a lot of opportunity for girls to showcase their skills offensively as well as their ability to play both zone and man to man defense. On a side note I am proud to say that the only 2 girls from NKY both received recognition for outstanding performances. McKenzie Leigh (Jr. Highlands) was selected to the all camp team and Holly Kallmeyer received the Camp Most Versatile Player Award. Colleges: On hand I saw representatives from from NAIA Division 1&2 schools including Transylvania University, University of Pikeville, and Indiana University Southeast. All in all I came away with a positive experience and look forward to more opportunities to participate in future events. That said we went in with slightly different expectations. With volleyball season in full swing the main focus was to polish off some rust before school ball season, find out a little more about the recruiting process and get some exposure in the process.

Its the High Potential Blue Chip Fall Showcase just south of Louisville put on by Rick Bolus. Never been and with other seasons in full swing thought it might be a good opportunity to polish off some rust.

Who's going and who has been in the past? What to expect?

Lady Eagles win 25-14, 25-21, and 25-16. I hated missing this game but other duties called. I heard Scott jumped out early in game 1 and then had to battle for every point in the rest of game 1 and game 2. Game 3 was also a battle to the midway point then the Lady eagles were able to pull away for the win. Like I said I missed this one so if anyone else has more to add please do.

Lady Eagles battled from bell to bell on this one to not only beat a very talented SK team but pull off the sweep, something they haven't done since the 2010 and the last year of the Lauren O'Conner/Lauren Tibbs combo. Hats off to a great group of girls at SK and congrats to the Lady Eagles on a milestone win!!!

IMO the moral victory is not whether you took a set, or almost took a set or just came up short of winning the match. To me the moral victory is knowing you took everything the opponent had and still kept fighting. Win or lose.

Now glyde, not sure why you felt the need to be insulting. While to the inattentive it may seem that NDA would be the better team based purely on scores. However, having been at both games and and knowing how Scott played against each team I can say that had the Lady Eagles played NDA the way they played Ryle the outcome may have been different. As far as the injured player goes I am sure she is a top notch player and will strengthen an already strong team when she returns. glyde, on a different note I am sure the parents of the young lady who has stepped up to fill the shoes of the injured player our very proud of her and might be a little tired of hearing how much better Ryle will be when the injured player returns. I mention this cause I have read on here several times about how much more successful Ryle will be upon her return. Unfortunately it is always written in the context that her replacement is to blame for Ryle losing or not being as successful.

Thank you Fast Forward for the scores of Boone/Conner. I one wit was a great match but with all the things that needed to be wrapped up at the end I just couldn't keep up. I must give a huge shout out to all the parents, teams and coaches that made this event such a success. Not only did the event run smoothly (heat aside) but as mentioned before there was a lot of great competition, many long and exciting rallies, and great plays by more players and teams than I could possibly count. Lastly I can't say enough about the "guts" and commitment of the coaches and ladies from Covington Latin. Many of you may not be aware, but due to a school scheduling conflict of the Senior Retreat, Covington Latin played the entire September Slam without any of their senior players. This is compounded by the nature of Covington Latin's early enrollment. Meaning many of the players on the court during the event were of middle school age. Great job ladies!!!!

None added, but with the timely maturity of the young players (Clephane, Stapleton, Davis) now stepping into the limelight and building on the leadership of the ascending veteran players (Kallmeyer, Dant, Meier, Trempe) combined with a team centered game plan should make for a much more balanced attack that should be more difficult to defend this year. Not saying there won't be bumps along the way and not saying the Lady Eagles will dominate the region. I am saying that this years team could really make some heads turn and be fun to watch.

Best part....this team has 4 players that were starters for their respective AAU teams in the State AAU Championship game. Additionally both teams went deep into the AAU National Tournament. Should make for a very exciting season of Lady Eagle Basketball

Fortunately for us parents and fans we will get to watch some great competitive matches as each team reaches to stand above the rest. It is a great time to be a fan!!!

The Lady Eagles are playing well, however, take nothing away from Conner. They have some great talent and a couple of solid hitters. While the scores reflect dominance, they were the result of several great rallies that saw both teams making great saves. Hats off to the Lady Cougars and congrats to the Lady Eagles.
