The Lady Eagles could very well be this years Dark Horse to win not just the District but quite possibly the 10th Region. With the graduation of post player Jill Buntin (who will be missed) and a few personnel changes the Eagles will ride the shoulders of Jr. guard Holly Kallmeyer (last years defensive POY), freshman guards Anna Clephane and Lexi Stapleton. Additionally, Jr post player Tori Dant and , Sr's Jenna Trempe, and Maddie Meyer will have big impacts on the glass for the Eagles.

Lady Eagle fans are looking forward to a very exciting season regardless of end of season record, as the positive energy from this group of young ladies was already palpable during summer ball workouts.

Who will be the pg? Didn't their best player and pg decide to go SK?

PG duties will rest on Kallmeyer and Stapleton, both of which process solid ball handling skills and shooting abilities. However, IMO Kallmeyer is a natural PG with her speed and unparalleled ability to see the court and deliver the ball to the scorers, while Stapleton is the ideal SG with great moves to the basket and a solid outside shot.

As far as the exit of the player you are referring to she is wished nothing but the best at SK and while the loss of your leading scorer can be difficult. The general belief is that it will make for a better TEAM this upcoming season.

Best part....this team has 4 players that were starters for their respective AAU teams in the State AAU Championship game. Additionally both teams went deep into the AAU National Tournament.

Should make for a very exciting season of Lady Eagle Basketball

Have the Eagles added players from last years team or just lost Neace and the senior post player? It sounds like you feel this years team will be better than last year. Why?

None added, but with the timely maturity of the young players (Clephane, Stapleton, Davis) now stepping into the limelight and building on the leadership of the ascending veteran players (Kallmeyer, Dant, Meier, Trempe) combined with a team centered game plan should make for a much more balanced attack that should be more difficult to defend this year. Not saying there won't be bumps along the way and not saying the Lady Eagles will dominate the region. I am saying that this years team could really make some heads turn and be fun to watch.

With the completion of volleyball season that saw the Lady Eagles win their 1st Regional title and progress in the State Tournament all the way to the Final Four, three key players return to the basketball court today. On the down side, with very little time before the first scrimmage and only 3 weeks before the 1st game they will need to shift gears and get up to speed fast. On the up side, Riding the high of their first trip to the dance and building off last seasons success look for the girls to hit the ground running looking to carry the volleyball success into the basketball season.

With the first scrimmage behind them the Lady Eagles identified some key areas to work on. With 3 key contributors finally joining the team following volleyball season the group looked a bit rusty in the first and second periods. However, in the third and fourth periods the girls gathered it up and were able to significantly distance themselves scoring points through transition and aggressive board work. Lots of work still to do however, they have a very solid foundation to build from.

As a side note congratulations to Seniors Madison Meier and Jenna Trempe and Junior Holly Kallmeyer being named team captains. Great job ladies, let's keep it rolling.

I think they lost by 1 to Carroll County. Heard they (Lady Eagles) played fast and have some good size.

Couldn't tell you as they reset the score to 0-0 at the end of each qtr. 1st ended in a tie, second went to Carol and 3rd and 4th went to Scott.

I encourage all BGP posters to find their schools beginning of the season thread and post an update on how the season turned out. What changed through out the season? Did any of the predictions come to fruition? Were there any disappointments? Line up changes? Stand out games? Stand out performances?

IMHO this season saw the Lady Eagles fly under the radar. Following the exit of key players, many POV's believed the Lady Eagles would be sub 500 and would struggle to be competitive in the 10th much less in NKY. I for one, am glad the girls felt differently.

Highlights:

Finished the season 20-10

Four players scoring over 300ppg and averaging 10+ per game (Clephane 410/13.7, Stapleton 376/12.5, Trempe 336/11.2, Kallmeyer 311/10.4)

Four players with triple digit rebounds (Kallmeyer 141, Stapleton 141, Clephane 121, Meyer 101)

IMHO big games for the Lady Eagles this year started early with big wins over Lexington Catholic and Bourbon County, followed by tough losses to Sacred Heart and Elizabethtown. Big games continued through the middle of the season with a bad loss to Ryle, followed by big wins over Simon Kenton and Bracken County. Then came wins over Campbell Co., GRC and Notre Dame, followed by a tough loss to Mason Co.

Standout moments/performances this season:

Jenna Trempe's 1000th point at the Christmas Tournament in Carroll County

Anna Clephane's 26pts vs Simon Kenton

Holly Kallmeyer's 20pts vs Notre Dame 7/11 including 75% from 3pt range

Tori Dant's Buzzer Beater

Madi Meyer dropping 2 three pointers after GRC's coach told his player to back off she can't hit the 3.

Lexi Stapleton's 22 pts. against Cooper

I am sure the are many more and would love to here about others.

Congrats to the Lady Eagles on a hard fought successful season. With a core of Kallmeyer, Dant, Clephane and Stapleton returning next year I look for the Lady eagles to fly less under the radar but work hard to achieve another great season.

Best of Luck to outgoing seniors, Jenna Trempe, Madison Meyer and Megan Brennan and thank you for a fantastic 4 years.
