Yes 8 3's!! Six in the first half by the starters and a couple in the second half by 1 jv starter and a jv reserve both freshman. It's fair to say that as inept as Taft was on offense this game or first half in question wasn't just played under Holmes basket!!

and this assumption that the game was all layups is confusing considering the girls hit 8 3' s counting for almost a quarter of the points plus I don't know how many free throws??

That can happen at any time even practice see Alex Poythress!! Should they not practice hard as well??

THAT Highlands team was coached by Legendary Dale Mueller and in an article on the game was quoted as saying"I don't think we can get any better. " The halftime score was 53-0 and Highlands went on to score 28 second half points. Some of those points came from the arm of Gino Guidugli in the second half! That game was published in the enquirer and was celebrated for Gino throwing 8 td's I was at the game and had custody of my wife's cousin James Jackson who went on to play football at Louisville and Murray State and not one time did I hear a parent from Holmes question his tactic or class. I'm really starting to think this is more a Holmes bashing more than a moral soapbox to stand on for some! The GRC strategy really put Holmes out of their flow and at worst and I don't know this to be true because I don't pester the coach... This game in the first half was to get his girls back on track and run and yes he held them back even in the first half!!! If another team struggled with ball handling and believe me that was the fundamental lacking what were the girls to do??? Coach Perkins didn't owe it to Taft to play with one hand behind his back he owed to his girls to get them back on track!! Holmes travels to Shelby County today and then Johnson Central next weekend for a Holiday tournament and then something really extraordinary!!! He is taking the girls to Florida to play in a Holiday tournament in Fort Meyers! For some of these inner city girls that some parents (not all because there are involved parents) have yet to see their daughter's play for whatever reason, where the coaching staff is the only form of transportation for some to and from practice and this will be the only opportunity for some of those girls to even see a beach in person for some it may be the only opportunity to get out of Covington they may have in life! Well I am going to say it shame on you all for bashing him when you don't know the whole story or his motives he is a good coach and a good man!! No other school in Northern Kentucky offers the same challenges Holmes does with exceptions to Newport but in my opinion that only makes success that much sweeter for some and for outsiders well we insiders see it's bitter and what's fair for some isn't fair for others!

Not all layups this game actually involved Holmes getting defensive rebounds, pushing the tempo, executing half court offense and yes points in transition?? But I have to ask why this gets your blood pressure up RC when I've shown examples of your Bluebirds walking all over my Dawgs? albeit a different sport. But you have not taken a stronger stance on a Girls high school coach at an all girls school exhibiting the type of behavior that warrants 3 T's ?? ( Didn't even know this was possible) But shame on coach Perkins and Holmes Lady Dawgs! !!

And that's the point I was trying to make!! IF your going to beat me do it at your best I would never want or expect anyone to hand me anything or take it easy on me out of pity!! Sports have taught me that!!

I never said I liked it or agreed with it but that's life!! It's not always fair and some days are tougher than others that's the beauty of sports it teaches us life lessons!!! You win some and you lose some!!

Fact of the matter is it was unfortunate the game wasn't any better than it was!! But those girls practice all week for games and deserve to be rewarded for their hard work! They approached and played the first half as they would any game. It was not a blatant attempt to upstage another team. The schedule does not get easier for holmes and he owes them his best effort to get them ready as well as theirs. He does not coach to please the masses!!

And if the shoe were on the other foot so be it!! I just read the article on that Highlands vs. Holmes football game and not one time did then coach Vander Meet issue a complaint!! And yes at halftime of that games Highlands led big and put up some gaudy stats!! I pasted a link to it

I'm not condoning or celebrating this by any means! But I do want to mention this... I can remember around 2000 or 2001 maybe even 2002 a Highlands football team traveled to Holmes handed Holmes an 81-0 thumping!!! Now who coached that team! And did that have a poor reflection on him, his school and athletic department at the time?? Just wondering???

Although it's not always fun or entertaining the strategy of having a slim lead and holding the ball to force the other team out of the zone has proved to be a winning strategy!!

Running Clock whole second half, Jv played most of that half. Did not press entire game. Holmes does not have a freshman girls team but capable freshman play varsity or jv.

Boone County had some serious athletes in their back court as well!! Really fast girls!!

Not sensitive at all. Just stated that this thread was very GRC oriented and that there are two sides to every game. It's ok for me to state that!

I can't control how many people post while I'm driving home and stopping for dinner with my family??? In MY responses when I finally was able to I stated my opinion!

I stated many times throughout my post why Holmes played the way they did??? My opinion was established in my other post!

As I stated this thread was started with a very GRC point of view and added a few snidbits about game play and players who didn't play. That happens but explain as to why you thought they held the ball. What was happening in the game to dictate that style of play?? gold sunrise's comments weren't to give Holmes credit for devising a strategy to win on the road against a talented team?? They were a setup comment to win favor for his team not to lose favor with the pollsters and people who are on BGP!! It was posturing!! Read it no where did it say it was a winning strategy which is exactly what it was!! In the Holmes preview thread it was established by RCC9 that this team was going to see a lot of zone... How would they combat that?? Well I think that question was answered yesterday! If teams want to sit in a zone against this team it looks like Perkins will hold the ball up top to force his girls to be guarded!! who's at fault the girls who held the ball or the girls who didn't get up and defend?? It's basketball and yesterday it was the winning strategy! ! That's what this thread should of been about
