  1. Marcus Campbell Jr. (North Hardin)(OL) has committed to Kentucky State (D2)
  2. I agree, What's good about some programs they offer open schollies to derserving players currently on the team. Parents just have to ask alot of questions and get educated about the schools they are looking at.
  3. I have been through the recruiting process with 2 already and currently going through with a third. One committed to play for Morehead State the other played 2 years at Union then walked-on the Louisville. The third has been recruited by schools from D1 FCS to NAIA. We have basically narrowed our decision to EKU, Uindy and Lindsey Wilson. All I can say is first, be honest with yourself. There is a difference from being recruited and not recruited, that includes walk-ons. A recruited walk-on (Preferred) is a lot different from being a true walk-on. In the case of the school with 156 players remember only about 62 will travel and 55 will actually play on a given Saturday. This is not to discourage anyone from following their dream of playing college football, but now it cost real money. Read the small print and be honest with yourself about your ability to actually play at the next level. Remember, this is college not HS…college coaches have one priority, WIN !!!
  4. That's sounds like a NAIA school. If I was looking at a school I would definitely look at the roster size. NAIA schools bring in a lot of players. The problem with NAIA and most D2 it costs a lot and a large number of players won’t see the field or travel, but will have a big debt to pay back especially if they red-shirt. NAIA is very competitive, If a player was not an All area or All district caliber of player the chances of being a major contributor is low. Sports/Athletes is what NAIA schools rely on the keep the doors open. On average NAIA schools will offer double (D1-D2 schools) the amount of sports.
  5. First it’s important to remember only about 4% of HS players will play college football, only .7% will receive any kind of D1 scholly. So that being said it doesn’t matter what type of offer you receive it’s special. As a norm I would say D1 FCS teams have better offers than D2, I mean how can you argue with 63 scholarships compared to 36. By NCAA rules D1 FCS teams have to have a minimum of 77 players on some type of scholly. I don't know the kid that got a full ride to a D2 school. I guess if it was Kentucky Wesleyan or Kentucky State I would understand, they might have to pay more to land a good player since they are not that competitive in D2. D2 schools have a limit of 36 scholarships and that not per year that's total. For the most part like NAIA which has a limit of 34 scholarships they split their scholarships among the vast majority of players. They might give a little more to land a D1 caliber athlete. UIndy which is probably the closest quality D2 program around doesn’t have anyone on full athletic scholarship. For example UIndy will probably have 115 kids on their roster this year, but roughly only 55 or so will be on some type of scholarship (This year UIndy will recruit about 35 kids, only about 15 will receive any type of scholly). That means 60+ kids are walk-ons. I would guess the two players committed to D2 programs this year probably aren’t on full rides..maybe the kid going to Malone since they are about as competitive as the 2 D2 programs in KY. NAIA is in the same boat, Majority will sign over 45 kids, but few if any at all will have a full ride. The majority of quality kids will only receive $3500-$4500 from football. A large number will basically walk-on. That’s not very much when considering the cost per year to go a NAIA school (Normally $30,000 per year +).
  6. Anthony Cummings (Male HS) verbally committed to Lindsey Wilson (NAIA).
  7. It shouldn't matter if you are a walk-on. All player should be listed no matter what. Most D2 & NAIA player will be walk-ons or receive very little in scholarship $$. D3 do not offer athletic scholarships at all. Anthony Cummings (Male HS) verbally committed to Lindsey Wilson (NAIA). Heard Ellis Cain committed to Morehead State.
  8. I agree, But I think Kentucky ranks like 32 or so in the nation in D1 producing athletes. That's what we need to address. Ohio is ranked like 3 or 4.
  9. I wouldn't say our D1 commits are down. The national average is .7% pf all seniors go D1. The concern I would have is the level of D1 players the state produces. Only 5 have committed to the upper levels of D1 and that's assuming we consider Kentucky (Missed going to a bowl again) an upper level D1 program. I really only see 2 upper level commits (Harris-Alabama/Grayson Miller- Michigan State). Eventually we will see the need to invest in an off season program (Like Core 6 or IMG). Illinois, Indiana and Ohio have several of these type programs that elite HS players can get involved in to sharpen their skills in the off season.
  10. I would imagine a lot of the quality players in KY (Those selected to play in All Star games, made All State, All area or All District Teams) have offers, are in the process of taking school visits or just haven't made a decision yet. Not to mention just because a player was good at the HS level doesn't mean they are going to be recruited (College football is all about the measurables). Being recruited and actually receiving an offer is hard. There is roughly 3,600 HS school seniors playing football in KY. Only about 75-100 will go on the play college football. I think you will see the list grow big time the next 6 weeks. That's why we should really honor any player that gets to play football at the next level no matter what level.
  11. It just shows you how hard it is to actually get recruited and play at the next level. I watched him in practice for the Ky-Tn All Star game and in the game. He is a great HS player, but lacks some measurables (Height & Speed) critical for the next level. This is a problem a lot of great HS players face. He may be to short to play LB or TE and not fast enough to play RB. Plus FB is a fading position in college and NFL. Especially since a lot of colleges are running pro style offenses. Alot of college teams do not recruit FBs they just convert a heavy LB or TE to fill those rolls when needed. But I do think he can play at the D1 FCS level if he finds the right program, easily could play D2-NAIA levels, his ability is above the D3 level.
  12. The problem is the FB position is a forgotten position. Look at all the this and that lists. Most do not mention FB or TE. Not sure he is fast enough to play LB at the D1 FBS level. Not sure what is 40 is. He could help any D2-NAIA team.
  13. Actually, I talked to a lot of these kids during the week. A lot of them just haven't committed and are making a lot of college visits in the next few weeks. Some already have offers but are still weighting their options.
  14. I watched the game the Kentucky LB corp. was the strength of the team on defense. They complimented each other very well. The stat sheet has been posted on the website. David Mattingly from Male was the best QB of the three. He looked the best during practice. Not sure why he didn't get more snaps. Maybe because we ran the wing T (A lot) and spread more than the wishbone. Not sure I agree that Pirtle was a man among boys. I personally thought Whittinghill played better and had better technique. Pirtle got a few late shots on the QB but he was sealed off inside too many times. But he will make a great LB at the next level. Does Hatfield have any offers? I was very impressed with Johns as well. Should done well at the D1 (FCS) or D2 level.
  15. Both Zach and Donald played well. Donald had a few good runs. I think he was named to the All bowl Team. Beasley stole the show. Zach had 4 tackles...the South Oldham LB (Johns) was the defensive MVP
  16. The game will be streaming live on ESPN3. It will be also televised on select TV channels in eastern ky and Tn.
  17. I totally agree CK..John Wilson couldn’t be on second team after being named “Offensive Player of the Year” and shouldn’t be on second team. Again the QB HM should be increased to compensate for the numerical value given (2 Pts) to QBs. Mattingly from Male HS also falls into this category. Bankhead I understand he had a lot of passing yards but also had a lot of interceptions. Plus the team finished 2-8. “I'm not so sure they were better than Zuberer of O'Cath and Ryan of LexCath. And Zuberer and Ryan couldn't crack the team either.” Idk, they all played great football and led their teams to success. “How many media members around the state you think would have voted for Krupinski or Wilson or Bankhead?” Idk, were they on the ballot. You could make a case for both (Wilson & Krupinski) as HM as QBs. No not on first or second team compared to Mr. Football and Hoge.
  18. I’m just saying stats are driving the train on most of these selections. The problem is they are able to be manipulated to say anything. Most voters are just going through the motions without putting any thought into the ballot. Whether it’s the C-J list where coaches are nominating their buddies players are voting for their buddies players. The AP is done by media markets that in some cases leave out entire regions or leans heavy to their primary readership. One voter said player “A” just didn’t have the stats but was a better player. None of the stats used to select these players are validated. Again how can you use a system that not everyone participates in? Using stats alone is a flawed process. RCC9..was spot on. Stats could be used to develop the pool (But only stats verified by the KHSAA). Then take TIME to take a more in depth look at each player. Maybe review some games, competition level, type of offensive scheme. Trinity QB was only HM, maybe if he wasn’t playing such stiff competition he would have more stats or Donald Brooks for the matter. I’m sure the defenses he ran against was a lot tougher than Cider or Harris. Stats should only be one factor…not the sole answer whether a player is All State. The problem is people like all these lists but don’t want do the homework to make sure it’s a quality product. I think that's why the BGP list is so respected..This is not a bust on the kids who made it. They all seem very derseving on the surface. But with all the post about players left out it seems like a flawed process that can be made better.
  19. IDK about the stats....Stats are the last thing people should be using. Half the teams don't even report stats. Most are inflated or not accurate. Some coaches run up the stats while other coaches take out their playmakers when a game is in hand. The problem with these lists is they rely to much on stats and not enough on the actual player.
  20. I'm not a CH fan...but you have to give it to the kid. Beat Meade..Won the district after like 22 years..undefeated season..won two playoff games and was MVP of the Best of the Bluegrass. His coach wins coach of the year and the other key players end up 1st Team all area and his RB makes HM. He ends up 2d team all area. Go figure..
  21. Koree Krupinski should have made HM no matter what. QB..FB..TE get the short end of the stick on all these list. Not sure why the the QB category can't be increased and FB/TE positions added. Every position on offense should be represented. TE will never have the stats WR do and the same goes for FB vs RB. What's amazing TE and FB are very special positions that not everyone can master.
  22. 2015 Border Bowl Kentucky Coaches Jim McKee, Head Coach Scott County Ty Scroggins, Head Assistant Central Mark Peach Anderson County Jerry Herron Williamsburg Scott Willard Scott County Monty McIntyre Scott County John Myers Russellville Duane Hammons Anderson County Mike Bowlin East Jessamine Chris McNamee Pineville http://kytnborderbowl.wix.com/kytnborderbowl#!2015-rosters/cjpx
  23. No sense rehashing the C-J list everyone knows how it works (As been DISCUSSED on this thread and others). Who submits the names for the AP ballot?
